Ok, so yesterday, I was up early to take my father-in-law in for test in a neighboring city. I didn't plan my food choices, so I ended up having snack crackers at the crack of dawn, followed by lunch at ihop, dinner with my whole family(who loves to cook and eat volumes) and even had a spurgle fall off the wagon snack of cheese puffs and Dr. Pepper yesterday afternoon!

I do not know WHAT got into me at all, but I was over on my calories by a whopping 1,039 for the day!!!! OMG! The scale reflected a 1/2 pound gain this morning.

I am so not doing well! Somebody slap me please!!

Yeah, my wife and I had a moment yesterday too. We had Panda Express for dinner. I don't feel so hot right now. Kinda feel like half of it is still in my stomach. You can guess where the other half is.

It was a reminder though! I don't like fast food and there is a huge difference in my energy/mental strength afterwards.

OK...consider yourself "slapped". Now...no more whining about yesterday....but equally important...don't let the faults of yesterday define who you are and what you will do TODAY. It's about habits...putting new and healthy habits in place takes time...and dedication. We any of us be perfect moving forward? NO way. Welcome to the battle.

So, your motto today...I'll do the best I can today...yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not something to worry about. Today will be....MUST be....my focus.

Best wishes to you on your personal fitness and weight loss efforts.

    start fresh
be kind to yourself ( your not perfect and dont have to be! )
drink plenty ( to help with excess salt)
    plan
think about what triggered it and how you can avopid it in the future
I.e asking for a portion to take away from parents so they know you love it and then you don't have to eat as much to show your love and enjoy the food in 2 small goes rather than one gut busting one. I try to keep snacks in the office so maybe a few long life healthy snacks in the boot ( so they are not easily munchible but there) for emergency

and next time prepare soak oats overnight then you can just pop porridge in the microwave in the morning
soaking it makes it creamer with out the cream and then add nut / berries / banana /nut butter / jam. cinnamon/ ginger
or boil eggs and have them in the fridge as emergency snacks / b'fasts

I think everyone needs to have days like that. Its a good reminder of what things used to be like and after gaining that weight after one bad day, just think about what more days like that would do. You just have to get back in your routine and forget about it.

    Let's use math.

You went over your goal by 1000 calories. There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. So assuming the way our bodies handle nutrition is a perfect system (it isn't), you went over your goal by the equivalent of 0.28 pounds. Not so bad really.

    But there's more...

Assuming you're eating at a 500 calorie deficit, which seems to be the average for most diets, that means you only went over your TDEE by 500 calories or 0.14 pounds. Even less bad.

So theoretically, you only put on 0.14 pounds yesterday. The scale went up because all that food is being physically carried in your colon (gross). You should go back to normal in a day or so. Don't worry, one day isn't enough to kill a diet.

Yesterday is done. When I have a bad day like that, for whatever reason, I start looking at the week as a whole. You have 5 days to average that out, so look for an extra 200 calories per day through Sunday, and your weekly total will still be fine.
