Been doing some research for a good sugar substitute. I generally only use added sugar in my coffee in the am. I dont use any creamer. Due to the fact that 2 tsp of sugar is equal to 16 cals., I was looking for a good substitute. Read up on splenda and it says that its chemical makeup is closer to a poision and stevia is from a plant. I am confused and thinking it would just be easier to continue to use the sugar. Anyone have any suggestions.

I just use regular sugar, for two reasons. 1. Artificial sugars like Splenda scare me and taste horrible. 2. A teaspoon of sugar is 15 calories. If someone is consuming so much added sugar in their diet that those calories are really adding up, finding a substitute sugar isn't the problem, the problem is they eat too much sugar, period.

I use one teaspoon a day of real sugar in my coffee, so I don't sweat it.
  • Maybe I am just overthinking it where I only use a couple teaspoons in my coffee.
  • I use Splenda. We switched from sugar to Splenda over a year ago and have never had any issues with it. It is the only sweetener/sugar in our house.
  • If you only use one tsp of sugar in your coffee, once a day then don't sweat it. Artificial sugars are poison. I'm still researching Stevia.

I really like Splenda..I use it in my coffee ( no cream). Somedays I will have 1 cup.....and somedays I might have 3 cups. I can enjoy my coffee and never feel guilty. Sometimes I have coffee when I just need something sweet....but calorie free.
