So, my 22nd birthday was this past Wed, and I have been mtn biking for around 2 and half 3 years now and i have been running a great deal in the past two months (3-6 miles a day). I have also always been a strong swimmer so i started looking at everything combined. Than I started reading about triathlons that go on and said BAM this is what I am getting myself for my 22nd birthday, A ROAD BIKE! So after looking and looking this morning I stopped by a local bike shop and they were selling a brand new Fuji Newest 2.0 for $540, a road bike that retails over $900. So, I jumped on the deal and bought them bike. I had been on craigslist and everything I found up to 600 bucks was usually something from the late 90's early '00s which to me seems crazy to spend that much on a used 10 year old plus bike! So now, I have also been using the bikes in the gym and putting 20 miles or so on them every two days to kind of prep me! In two weeks I will start training for the swimming section of the triathlon, and continue to run on the indoor track 2 miles a day along with bike on the actual roads for about 5 miles a day or so (now that I own a road bike!) I figure this should prep me for the triathlon that is on June 22nd. Now I was wondering if anybody had tips or tricks that I should know about that way I can prep myself even better!!! I think this will be very fun and who knows maybe if I really enjoy it I will go out and buy an even better bike and maybe one day compete in an ironman triathlon!
Btw, the triathlon I am doing in June is a 400 meter swim, 13 mile bike ride and than a 5k. I would consider that to be a sprint triathlon but it seemed just perfect for a first timer!!
Support me in this haha!

I support you all the way! Sprint triathlons are the way to go for first-timers. I am impressed that you found a road bike for so little! Though, granted I am looking for a cannondale... my dad is telling me to save up my nickels and dimes.
Keep in mind that training for all events individually is good, but you want to brick train, meaning, you want to practice what it feels like going from a swim into a ride and from a ride into a run (the hardest thing for me). Happy belated birthday! Mine is coming up, and I've basically just asked for race entries for presents. I miss running competitively!0 -

Cheval13: thank you for the happy birthday and for the support! happy early birthday to you!
Yeah, I am very satisfied with this bike, I have already put on over 50 miles on it haha and yes i started training today. On Mondays i am going to bike 5 to 10 miles and move afterwards go running for 2 to 3 miles. On tuesdays Go swimming for 200 - 400 meters than go biking from 5 to 10 miles (or to whenever i give up haha) and so forth!
freezerburn20: I hope so! They sound so interesting to me, and I got one of my good friends to agree to do one with me, We are both as excited as we can be haha! I found a few of them that are even earlier so depending how i feel about them I might have 3 or 4 under my belt before i tackle on the one in June!
SarahSwimmer: Thank you for the support! I just hope that I dont start craving a tri bike soon haha.

Make sure you have good nutrition before the race. During the race I like to eat 2 shot blocks before the race, 2 before the bike and the last two before I end the bike. Carry to water bottles and drain them during the race. Train your bricks ( bike/ runs) and practice your transitions. Good luck!0
