SBF2 Reboot Boogaloo! Week of Aug 10th

Welcome to a new week!
I did a circuit with at the gym yesterday - it's like a curves circuit. I'm convinced that yoga doesn't use the pecs much - they hurt every time I lift weights. I did the overhead press and tricep curl at the same level as my husband - lots of down dogs, I guess.
Today, I'm teaching at 10, then hopefully, my teacher's class at 4:30, then a little gym after that. I'm teaching vinyasa flow. In a way, I think flow classes are way too easy on the teacher - you don't really have to know the poses, just keep the class moving. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyway, I'll try to make it interesting - I like to add every standing pose I can think of between each sun salutation.
I just finished the book "The End of Overeating" - while it has many good points, it bills itself as the entire reason people are overweight. While it may ring true for many, I doubt it will work for all. It's worth checking out though. At the beginning of the book, he talks about different stimulating foods (chocolate chip cookies, pizza, etc) - I kept thinking about those foods. Luckily, I only read after dinner, so I wasn't hungry

Morning. I need a do-overs.
It started off on a bad note. Yes it involved Alex, and tears on both side (as well as screaming). I did manage to get 20 minutes of Shred in (missed the last circuit), so that's something. In laws coming today. Have a lot of cleaning to do.
Cat likes to pee outside the box. Any ideas? It has a cover on it and a door but she still manages to go on the floor. She's in her box but it leaks out. Wish I had money to invest in one that's open at the top.
That's how my morning is going. I already told DH I'd trade today with him and go to work in a car without A/C. But he'd stay home with Alex and Alex would be a perfect angel for him. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Alex hates me. (I know he doesn't but it sure feels like it!) We're going to see our pastor and wife for counsel about it. Honestly I don't know what they can say or do. They don't have autistic kids.
I'd better get busy. I have a lot to do. I'll cheer up....

No help with the cat, I'm afraid. I had one that did that too, sometimes. Maybe you could find something with a lip that went around the box, so at least it wasn't on the floor (I'm thinking something like a cookie sheet).
I saw this on the yoga journal website and it cracked me up:
"Like most other arm balances, Mayurasana appears to require exceptional strength. What is actually needed, though, is patient, progressive work to develop a more intimate relationship with gravity."
Falling on your face, perhaps?0 -
You know...I thought about the cookies sheet about a month ago. Duh! Thanks Mary. I'll see if I can get one next time at the store.
To replace the old one I'll put under there.

I am feeling incredibly frustrated today (work-related). So I am not in the best of moods - AND I just randomly binged on candy. Why? Probably because I'm already in such a bad mood that I figured it couldn't get worse. Ugh. I did take a walk, and will probably go to the gym to make up for the stupid candy... assuming I ever get out of work. Sigh. Maybe I should take a look at that book, Mary.
I'll try to get into a better mood before I post again - sorry, guys! I hope V is having a good trip.

CP, I hope your day got better. Mine did. After the inlaws showed up, Alex was a perfect angel. Of course. They left this morning (may or may not be back later depending on how her appointment goes), so we'll see what today holds for us! So far so good!
I'm going to take him out to the park to see if the ducks are hungry and also see if he will play on the playground. Then we're going to the library for a bit. I need to finish straightening up the house, but other than that I can just chill if I want.
I'm sore from working out yesterday. That's sad considering I barely did anything. It lets me know just what kind of shape I am in. I don't know if I will get any in today. Again, depends on MIL's appt. and if they show up again around lunch time. My goal is to work out 3x a week, so I will at least aim for tomorrow.
I'd better get ready to go. I like to get out and back before it gets too hot and it's already over 80.
Hot day boogaloo!

I'm really sick of the heat - time for a vacation to the North. I think it's effecting people - making them distracted and angry. The southern version of SAD. At least there is AC  hey, and no worries about getting enough vitamin D.
I'm sore from yesterday's morning yoga class. The regular teacher was in the class, but I didn't know at first and made an adjustment on her down dog - so I was a little nervous for the rest of the class. My teacher's class (yeah, she's back!) was easy though, so that was nice. She has some minor surgery next week, so I'm teaching 7 classes that week again.
Today - well, yoga class tonight, and either the gym or a bike ride depending on how I can deal with the heat today. I need to train for September's yoga workshops, so all this soreness has a goal in mind!
Yoga madness, boogaloo.0 -
Wow, Mary lots of yoga!
Okay, so I did it again. I said I wouldn't and I did. I think I forgot what it was like until after I said I would. Would what? Take Alex to a bounce house by my lonesome! What was I thinking when I said yes? It's on Thursday for two hours for a little girl's birthday party. I may not know anyone except the hosts and we aren't even that close. I'll be busy helping Alex climb around anyway. It will be some exercise.
Feeling tired and lazy today. Struggling to get my act together. I think I am just sick of the heat too. It's so hot I don't feel like doing anything, even in the AC.

Welcome aboard!0 -
Welcome Diva! Glad you could join us.
Today was another hard day with Alex, and I have definitely come to the realization that he is driving me to eat. At least I know that. Now to stop doing that! I am still sore from yesterday. Tomorrow is a busy day so I will have to see what I can get in. Something I hope.
I miss V! When will she be back?0 -
Hi all! And welcome, Diva. Typically, we come up with longer-term goals and then check in every day with our plans and results. I believe the current iteration of our self-challenge goes until Labor Day. Although, lately, some of our regulars have been away - so we are mostly just chatting.
MM, I don't know when V gets back - I asked right before she left how long her trip was, but she didn't answer. I've got to think it's at least a couple of weeks, though, considering how far they were driving.
I am in a better mood today. Not quite so crabby! Work is still frustrating and I have a lot to do, but - oh well. It was interesting, though - I had a very distinct sugar crash after my little candy binge yesterday. I was SO sleepy for about 30 minutes. It's the first time in a while that I have had that feeling, but now I know for sure - that's what it is! MM - did you ever come up with a song or verse that you could use like V had suggested? Maybe that would help when you are feeling frustrated with Alex.
I took a walk, went to belly dancing class, and I still need to do my pushups. I am getting a little better at shimmying! I'll check back in a few once I finish my pushups.
Better mood boogaloo!0 -
OK, I did it! Week 4, Level 3, Day 1:

I can't believe I made it through the last set! I wasn't sure about starting this week on level 3, but I'm proud that I made it through. Jelly arms boogaloo....0 -
Diva - CP is talking about her 100 push-up challenge.
I can't believe I'm looking forward to this weekend when it will be only 96 degrees. It was 104 yesterday and they are predicting the same for today.
Today - gym (walk/jog if I'm up to it) and yoga tonight - but not teaching, yeah! I have a weekend full of dinner plans, so I need to make it full of exercise as well.
Dentist appointment today, blah.
More heat, boogaloo.0 -
Hey everybody. Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned, Mary. I'll admit, hearing you talk about the Texas heat has definitely made me feel less like ever moving there (not that I was planning to, but I do have some family scattered around the state).
I had tasty Thai food for lunch, and am about to head off to the gym (finally - first time this week). My co-worker who did the trail run with me a couple of weeks ago asked if I wanted to go running tomorrow - neither of us had been planning to do the one sponsored by the running store because it was too far away. So, I guess I'm not off the hook after all! He found a trail that's on a former railroad line, so it should be pretty flat... but it's 3.5 miles for the whole distance, and so if we went out and back, that would be a pretty long run! I guess we'll see how we feel tomorrow. He is probably in better shape than I am, but he's giving blood ("double red") today, so I may have a chance. Hey, I need every advantage I can get!

Made it to the gym yesterday but just got a walk in. Today is biking to the store and teaching yoga tonight. I might get some time in on the elliptical before yoga, depending on traffic.
I'm doing another yoga week - week after next. I've already started planning my schedule. Probably about three classes a day. People pay big bucks to go on a yoga retreat - they can do it at home for much less. It will cost about $45 a day. I might schedule a massage in there too, though we are going to San Antonio for Labor Day weekend, so a massage might be in my future there instead.

Hey everyone!
I'm falling behind on the posts! I don't have time to read them now. Busy day!
We went to church last night and talked with the pastor and his wife about Alex until 11pm! We didn't get to sleep until after midnight. So we slept in this morning which was great! Even Alex slept in. We are going to be changing up some things around. One being I get off the computer more. Two getting into a schedule (which I really don't like but Alex functions better). Three changing our disciplining technique. It'll be interesting for sure.
Today I need to start some sort of routine, then we have to go buy a birthday present for a 6 year old girl, and then after lunch we are going to the bounce house birthday party. That will be my work out.
Maybe with actually getting on a routine I can get my work outs in regularly again. And maybe I will find myself not eating as much.
CP, someone gave us a verse about three years ago. It has to do with peace. I need to look it up and memorize it and post it somewhere. That might help. I also probably need to post a song or verse that will help with the eating thing. I've gained at least 3 pounds. Something needs to be done.
That's my novel. Gotta run!

So the yoga week got moved to next week (works out better with my other part-time job) - so I'm teaching 7 classes (three really easy ones), and I'm going to try to do three classes a day. Today, I'm going to bike and walk, but no yoga. Tomorrow I'm going to try to do back to back classes. It will help my stamina for the workshops next month.
I also need to work on eating more mindfully. I catch myself eating like someone else is going to steal my food, or that it's a thing to get over and done with. I will work on that this weekend.
Slow yourself down, boogaloo.0 -
Hi everybody. I have had a rough 24 hours. I did go running last night with my co-worker, but found myself really feeling ill afterwards for several hours. So I think I am going to need to back off a bit - I started feeling a bit ill when we were halfway out, but I was afraid to stop and walk too much because I knew it was going to be getting dark. It was probably 6-6.5 miles total, but it was really humid and I was drenched. I have felt ill the last couple of times I have gone trail running, so I think I am pushing myself too hard.
And then, this morning, we woke up with a bat in the house. We had a couple last year, but thought we had gotten rid of them. Anyway, we are afraid that it might have got in through a hole in the window screen in the bedroom... in which case, it could have bitten us... and we just trapped it and let it go rather than keeping it, so we don't know for sure that it didn't have rabies, and we don't know for sure that we weren't bitten. The chances are really really low... but I am freaking out about it. So I called the health department and we have decided to go ahead and get rabies shots just in case. It is probably ridiculous, but rabies is deadly and I don't know how I'm going to be able to sleep otherwise. We also have a 'bat exclusion' guy coming out tomorrow to take another look and help us figure out where they are getting in and how to get rid of them. I know the shots are expensive, so I feel a little guilty about having them (the county pays for it) - but hey, I pay my taxes, and the consequences are serious even if the risk is small.
Heebie-jeebies boogaloo...0 -
Bats? ew. Not a big bat fan. They creep me out. I hope you start feeling better CP. I think I know what you are talking about, though not from running.
I haven't had much other opportunity to work out this week. It's been an off week, as in our schedules are way off. We didn't have breakfast until after nine this morning. It's just been weird.
We tried the new discipline with Alex last night and I admit I was amazed at his response. He stopped crying! Who'da thunk it? So we might actually get some rest and not be so stressed out. He's been really good this morning and I've been trying to play with him some more.
Tonight we are having dinner at a friend's house. They have Russian friends so we are all meeting at their house. I've meet their friends before and they've always kind of intimidated me. The wife is the one from Russia (her mom might be there too) and she seems pretty serious and reserved. I guess we are expected to speak in Russian. :blushing: That could be embarrassing. I'm too shy. lol. I'm nervous about it but looking forward to being social...as long as Alex is good all afternoon.
I'm done. I need to get lunch, even though I feel like I just ate, and get Alex down for a nap.
Have a good day!

If I can get it to work, here's a picture of Alex after the bounce house party. He was SOO tired.0

Good morning!
As long as Alex is good for the next 45 minutes we will be going swimming this morning. I don't know what we're doing after that. Hopefully something fun! Maybe bowling.
I'm having a wake up call on my weight. Need to get moving again this coming week. I did buy healthy stuff at the store...just got to get my portions under control.
I'd better start getting ready so we aren't late. Have a great day!
Big pool boogaloo!

Cute picture, MM!
I like bats - it's a requirement in this city, but I liked them even before the bats moved in underneath the bridge (we have a migrating Mexican Bat that comes in the summer and eats our mosquitoes, well, not all of them, but enough that people put up bat houses - there are over a million underneath a bridge downtown - cool, if smelly, to watch). I would not want them in my house though. My vet told a story about a guy with an indoor cat that wouldn't get the cat a rabies shot (since it was indoor only) - a bat flew through his chimney, bit his cat, and the cat had to be put down. I never checked the story, but it's an example of "you just never know what might happen."
I have another ill catShe could have fatty liver. She's getting an ultrasound on Wednesday. She hasn't been eating much as is losing weight quickly. I'm going to get some kitten food for her today to see if she's tempted to eat. It's higher in protein and that is the treatment for fatty liver (a high protein diet).
So anyway, I'm going to try back to back yoga classes today. Also need to clean the house.

Little sore from the 3 hour yoga session, even though it was on the easy side. Today - bike to the store and a yoga class tonight.
New thread tomorrow.

I'm baaaack. . .the weekly thing is a great idea. . .are we starting Mondays as a new week then?
So, I had an AMAZING (I hardly ever use all caps, so you know it's true) trip. The only downer was St. Louis, which we both didn't like. (very hot, humid and alarmingly unfriendly compared to the rest of the trip) Everything else was pretty phenomenal, including the badlands and Mt. Rushmore (which we were both surprisingly moved by). My mom was a drag, but I was pretty much expecting that. (essentially I was punished with the silent treatment the entire time for not staying longer. I won't trouble you with any other info, but she's weird.) My big project this week is to get some pics up on my facebook page. PM me if you're curious enough to friend me there. I thought I would feel compelled to check in during the trip, but I logged completely off of everything. I just had to deal with over three hundred emails, but it was worth it.
I ate sensible portions, but other than that. . .all bets were off. The "om nom nom" photograph (beaver tails (a fried bread/giant flat donut product not an actual beaver tail. . .) in Ontario, pasties in the upper peninsula, fried bread Indian Tacos at the Pine Ridge reservation, steak in South Dakota, barbecue in Kansas city. . .etc. . .oh, there's more. . .) became a theme of the pictures. I'm into regional cuisine. But, there were a lot of items that I ate a few bites of and tossed the rest, so I was actually pretty proud there. I was walking as much as I could, but only got three actual workouts in.
So, now I'm ready to rededicate and give the elimination diet my full attention, to see if there are any other food intolerances going on. Sometimes I'm sold on this idea, and sometimes I think it's paranoia. But, I'm willing to restrict my food for a couple of weeks to see if anything has a profound effect on me.
Unless naptime gets me (I just slept for fourteen hours. . .I'm crashing pretty hard now) I'm aiming for Bikram at four this afternoon.
Back home boogaloo!
Take care.:flowerforyou:0 -
Also, I was too eager to post to read the week (how rude!)
Yikes, CP a bat and rabies shots?! I'm so sorry.
Mary, I hope kitty is OK.
I missed you too, MM. . .hope all is well with you. I find that when I can get the stress-reducing workouts in, I have less of an urge to eat compulsively.
and
Welcome, Diva!:flowerforyou:
Hey, what happened to Wandering?:ohwell: Maybe she's off on another shoot and I missed it?0 -
Welcome back, Vivia!!! Sounds like you had an awesome trip. Sorry you didn't care for St. Louis - I like KC better, but we always had fun in Forest Park going to the zoo and art museum when I was a kid. But hot and humid, check.
First round of shots down... 4 more to go. Sigh. We did have the bat exclusion guy out yesterday, and are going to go ahead and spend the money to get a professional to help us out (one-way doors for a while, then sealing it all up in another month or so). And then I had to work last night (pretty much a full standard work day, but with AM and PM reversed). So I have been mostly in de-stress mode as much as possible this weekend. I only managed pushups once last week, so I may try to do those today (since tomorrow night I'll be getting another shot and might be sore).
I hope your kitty feels better, Mary. Good luck with your yoga week! And I don't know where WL has wandered off to - I keep thinking of her because I've been watching Whale Wars online. MM, that pic of Alex is just adorable. Hope you had a fun weekend.
De-stress boogaloo... :flowerforyou:0
