I am staying within my calories, but i always go over in protein. How important is that to weight loss. I thought protein was good for you so i dont understand the limit.

If you're using MFPs default value of 15% protein... it's probably low, barring underlying health issues like kidney stones etc.
To get closer to a "my eating habits" number i had to change the value to 35% to get my "Target" of 175 grams of protein per day as my ideal goal... rarely reach it but that's my "ideal world" goal.... 1lb per gram of my goal body weight.... at least the lean body mass target but... it's 100+ lbs off, I'll adjust as I get closer.
My home > goals > change goals > custom
in there you can tweak your percentages of macros, lower your sodium goal, increase fiber or other vitamins that you may have a need for as per your Dr's advice etc.0
