I've heard a lot of good things about using a Heart Rate Monitor. I want to find out what can I look for. Any recommendations and what I should need it to do? I don't want to invest in something generic but then I'm not willing to over-invest. Can you tell me where you bought yours, the features, price, and your experience?

Polar seems to make a good line. I've got the FT7 and it suits my needs. Seems to match up with my BMR pretty well. After looking at the feature set, the FT4 does everything I need and costs a bit less. That's what my girlfriend went with, and she's happy with it.

You can find them at most Best Buys (check their inventory online first though, as not all stores carry them). I also noticed ****'s Sporting Goods carries them. If you don't mind waiting a few days, you can pick them up for cheaper on Amazon. Just make sure it comes with the chest strap.

Edit: Name of the store was censored out. You can probably figure out the one.

I've got the polar ft4, and its a pretty popular one around here, its great, very affordable and has enough functions that I need, like HR, cals burnt, avg and max HR and keeps 10 previous workouts in its memory

If you train outdoors go for a garmin device.
