Small succes, big implications

I don't count calories. I don't count fat/fibre/carbs/sodium... and/or whatever else can be counted. I used to be a Weight Watchers member (3-4 times) and since the end of my last membership I've refused to count anything. It just gets way overwhelming and I become obsessive with the numbers and every small morsel of food that I eat (e.g. figuring out less than a pinch of brown sugar) and how many calories I burned during a workout.
So, I made a conscious decision to give up on counting - to let it go - and it has been beyond liberating. In figuring this out, I gained weight over the last year (unemployment hasn't helped) but I think it has actually helped me with my journey.
Because I have watched my weight for so many years, I know about nutrition and healthy, balanced eating, but it wasn't until I gave up the counting game that I finally began to live and love a healthier lifestyle. I workout because I honestly enjoy it (kickboxing, zumba and strength training). I eat what I like and that makes a world of difference.
In the last 3 weeks, after recommitting to letting go of all of my food rules and again working within the framework of intuitive eating, I have lost 6.5 pounds and a number of inches.
Something is working and I feel so liberated to do it in a way that I can sustain.
I'm pretty stoked and excited to know that this isn't a numbers game anymore for me. Count me out!
(P.S. I know that 6.5 is a number and this is part of the process. I'm still trying to figure out how/if/when I want to use the scale in this journey. So far, I've decided on once a month). I can't believe I didn't type the extra "s" on "success"!! Urgh! lol

That's awesome! This really gives me hope that someday I'll be able to let go of calorie counting and do this thing just by relying on my own food and fitness knowledge and listening to my body
