Calories left over at end of day

Hi all! I'm new here! I was wondering what to do with calories left over at the end of the day? Some days, I'm 200-300 calories under my allowance. Should I have an additional snack to make up for it? In other words, for weight loss purposes, is it better to be at my exact calorie allowance, or is it OK to be a little under sometimes? I'm afraid that if I'm not eating enough calories that it could slow down my weight loss.

My second question is about balance between carbs, fat, and protein. This site has helped me learn how unbalanced my daily meals are. One day I'm 40 carbs over, the next day I'm 20 protein over, etc. My question is, is the daily count more important or the weekly count? It seems very difficult to have the perfect balance every day.

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much about these unused calories. First of all it's all approximation (unless you eat perfectly measured doses of sugar, fat, protein and alcohol) so your, say, 1500 calories may well be 1600 or even 1700 calories.
Secondly I personally don't believe this myth of "eating more lose weight" or "starvation mode (in obese people)". It never worked for me.
The only thing you have to keep in mind (sure you don't have to anything really :-)) that your regime must be sustainable - if you've got craving for more then you should probably eat slightly more to avoid any binge etc.

I agree. If you are not hungry, don't force yourself to eat. Your body knows best.

    You should never over eat
I have a calorie deficit of 400-500 and sometimes even 700 when I do two workouts and its good coz unless you have the deficit how you are going to lose and thats the whole point of all this calculation.
    Just make sure
    1. you are not starving yourself
    2. you are not over eating just to eat up all the calories left in your day

I agree. And all I've read says worry about your macros more at the overall level, not daily, just like you were thinking.

I like to be a little under my calorie intake, because a lot of the time i;m sure the calorie count isn't 100% right, that being said, if i'm hungry then i'll eat more, regardless of my calorie count. I rely more on how i feel.

You don't lose weight by over eating.

Being a little over in a category isn't going to kill you. Ignore the protein limit, it's set too low for people doing exercises.

As long as you're not eating less than 1200 calories. If you are, you need to plan your meals in advance. I plan mine every morning. Once you are at your calorie goal for a while, it becomes second nature planning your day.

Don't eat if you aren't hungry!

Being over on protein is ok, but over on carbs by 40 is a lot. I don't know what you're eating for carbs, but if it's bread, try switching to sandwich thins, or bagel thins.

Make friends and look at what they eat. That way you can get other ideas for meals (or what not to eat).

If you can, get a dietitian! The best thing I've ever done in my life.

    Good luck!
