Protein powder makes me gag!

I bought Vanilla but I don't drink it without putting it in a smoothee I make with frozen mixed berries, frozen bananas I freeze myself and 5 live-cultured Yogurt(I like Stonyfield or Mountain High. If something makes me gag but it is something I know is good for me I just cover the taste.
denise:drinker: :drinker:I'm trying to add protein powder to my diet, and I did research before I bought, majority said iso-100 tasted good etc so I got it. It doesn't taste bad but it makes me gag! I want to throw it up with every sip! I tried drinking it while holding my nose, drinking it while eating toast, but no still made me gag! So how could I hide it so I don't taste it? Any good ideas? I want to use it up since the dang thing was $36 and I'm a cheapo haha
Oh and it doesn't hurt my stomach at all so I don't know why it's making me gag.0 -
I mix mine with skim milk, ice, and instant coffee granules and put it in the magic bullet for a healthy iced coffee treat.0

This is a great idea! Thank you since I don't always want all the calories a smoothee has;) denise:drinker: :drinker:I add 1Tbsp. of FF/SF instant vanilla pudding mix. It only adds about 20 - 25 calories but makes my smoothie or shake taste extremely good!! Worth it. Good luck.0

I have chocolate powder I mix in the blender with 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 a banana and a handful of frozen berries. It's delicious!0

My kind of protein;)Keep it simple: Gold Standard Whey Vanilla, 1 scoop. 1 frozen banana, 1 - 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk, frozen berries, strawberries, mangoes, whatever. Even 2 or 3 tablespoons ground flax seed. Throw in blender till well mixed. Tastes like ice cream. Therefore, I eat one every day!0

Try adding some Silk Almond Milk and frozen strawberries, banana or other fruits. I also have a texture problem with protein shakes and turning it into a smoothie works. I add just enough frozen fruit for taste while keeping the calories down. Good luck0

When I first tried protein powder (mixed with water) it made me gag & I would throw it back up. YUCK!
Now, I am able to get it down by mixing 1 scoop powder with about a cup of milk. I chug the whole thing in a couple gulps then drink a little more milk to wash the taste of of my mouth. Once I have drank it it doesn't make my sick but the consistancy is what I don't like in my mouth. So, the only way I drink it is gulp it down fast so I can't really taste it.0 -
add it to cottage cheese/oats/milk/egg whites.
or sniff it for a quick pick me up.0 -
Wanted to share this; a sales rep came into my office today and I was so surprised to see him because he had lost 100 pounds in past two years since I seen him last. He of course told me how he was doing it and one of the things he incorporated into his diet by request of his trainer was this protein drink and he could not rave enough about it and how good it taste! He said you will not believe it. He said it was made by Giant Sports and it is the 'cookies n cream' flavored. He said you can use it with water, but he normally adds two scoops to skim milk and has one twice a day. He ended up giving me two scoops of it to take home and try and see what I think. Which I will tonight. I will come back on and let you know just how good it was.
Check back.0 -
I use body fortress chocolate whey. I hated the taste when I first tried it. But now I only using it occasionally when I've been fasting and have a lot of activities planned for the day, but I don't want to eat yet. I notice I enjoy it much more when I'm really hungry.0

don't just drink it straight in water silly, mix it with something else.
cut up fresh fruit and freeze it, blend it with vanilla protein powder and a splash of water = delish!
or mix if u don't want it mixed with something, mix it into a shot glass of water, throw it back like a shot, and chase it with a glass of reg. water0 -
I use dark chocolate flavor protein powder and I blend it with some of my favorite ice cream (GASP! she eats ice cream!) for a deliciously filling milkshake. Takes care of the sweet tooth, and my protein requirements and tastes not at all gross.0

You've gotten lots of good advice about hiding the taste of the protein powder. But I also wanted to mention, you said it was $36 and you are a cheapo. A really cheap source of protein powder is skim milk powder you can buy from the grocery store. Same thing but without the huge markup from the supplement stores.0

bump!
just got my vanilla 100% egg protein today... mixed it with water and it was gross. tried mixing it in hot coffee and it was a disaster... i really wanted to TRY it and since i'm at work with limited options right now, i just mixed with a diet coke. it tastes good but probably not the best way to use it!
i will definitely try to blend with PB and Banana at home!!
thanks!0 -
add it to cottage cheese/oats/milk/egg whites.
or sniff it for a quick pick me up.

My husband drinks protein powder with water and I think it's totally gross. I do a smoothie/shake thing - chocolate protein powder, almond milk, and powdered peanut butter all in the magic bullet blender and it takes like a Reese's milkshake. : )0

One of my favorite treats: Non-fat, plain Greek yogurt, chocolate protein powder (Optimum Nutrition gold standard Double chocolate is what I'm using and I really like it. Mixes great, tastes awesome and an independent assay found that their protein content is reliable and accurate) and peanut butter all mixed together. Tastes amazing, has great macros and is super filling.0

I can't drink it either, without gagging. This week I used a scoop of my vanilla protein powder to make protein balls. There are many variations/recipes online, but I made mine with peanut butter, oats, 1 scoop of protein powder, a few raisins, and raw almonds.0

I put it in my oatmeal0

Okay as stated earlier in this thread, I tried the 'cookies n cream' protein drink from Giant Sports the guy gave me today. Mixed it with 2% milk and it was Delicious! No really. It was great. I can imagine adding crushed ice, coffee, or even a banana to it in a blender and it would be like some kind of a luscious dessert! He wasn't lying! And to my surprise it even thickened up like a shake.0
