  • I've always eaten food with a pretty good nutritional content, but far too much of it. When I was trying to lose weight, I'd reduce the total volume of food and completely eliminate treats (i.e. the non-"diet food"). The result was that I felt deprived, putting me at risk for binges, and for very little actual benefit…
  • Breakfast, pre-run: Coffee, banana Breakfast, post-run: Bran flakes, whole milk, more coffee Lunch: Open-faced sandwich with turkey, cheddar, baby spinach, and whole-wheat bread; water with lemon Snack: Vega Protein & Greens shake with whole milk, coffee, and ice Dinner: Chili garnished with diced red pepper, jalapeno…
  • Same here. I cook for five, and do some batch cooking. This is why I got the big (and expensive, unfortunately) Oxo scale. Max weight = 22 lbs. I think it's worth the price.…
  • Thank so much! The Temple Newsam course in particular looks beautiful. We could probably make a whole day out of that one. :)
  • Ran 3 miles. Slightly faster than “easy.” I’m watching the temperatures climb during the day, and am realizing that I’m going to have to get up earlier if I want to run outside.
  • @BruinsGal_91 - That’s an excellent question! We’ve rented a house outside of Leeds (in Guiseley) for 3 weeks, so I thought I’d try to hit a couple in the vicinity. Any recommendations? 3 miles this morning. 48dF and sprinkling. May tally: 3!
  • I won’t set a mileage goal (it makes me want to skip necessary rest days), but will report my miles. The weekly plan is 4 runs (2 easy, 1 tempo or intervals, 1 LSD), 2 days rowing & strength, and 1 day active rest (leisurely walk, bike, or swim). Year-long goal: New 5K PB <29:25. Events: Amica Iron Horse 5K, 6/3 Smith…
  • I have rosacea as well. Same issue. Cool water, a super gentle moisturizer, and elapsed time. I’ve also started mixing zinc-based sunscreen into my moisturizer and it seems to help, but maybe only because of the white overtone. Still experimenting. Let me know if you figure something out!

  • Lifting a bag holding six 2-liter soda bottles into the shopping cart by essentially bicep-curling it in one hand, and making the cashier say, loudly, "Wow! You are SO STRONG!" And then calling out to her coworker in the next aisle; "Mary, look at this! Do that again!" Practical and entertaining, apparently!
  • Welcome to MFP! My middle child is trans and gay. We're just a couple of months into this crazy adventure, and I couldn't be more proud of him. :)
  • Strength day, with a 20-minute rowing warmup. Finally figured out a workout log/notebook that works for me (spiral-bound reporters notebook), so I can keep track of reps/weights/progression.
  • Yes, you’d burn fewer calories that day, but you do use calories while sleeping, so it wouldn’t be a dramatic difference. I’d focus on eating normal meals, until satisfied, during my waking hours, which would probably mean fewer calories. Then again, if you’ll be staying up late that next night (since you’ll have o my been…
  • If you'd like to give us some details about what you're experiencing, maybe we can help. What is your goal? Lose, gain, or maintain weight? Improve your body composition? What are you trying? Calorie reduction, or some sort of special diet? Exercise? What have your results been so far? No change, just a little change?
  • I read it as having a 5K surplus over the first weeks of the month. And then taking on a massive deficit over the last week or so to make up for that 5K excess calories. Is that correct, hoops1888?
  • Ok, cool. So pay close attention from here on and that'll tell you how to proceed. I'm fairly certainly you shouldn't be eating back walk calories if you are using TDEE, but let your actual data tell you what, if anything, you should adjust. If you're losing at an acceptable rate, don't worry about changing your methods or…
  • Just to check: So you're following a TDEE method of calculating what your calorie intake should be (accounting for all activity, and not eating more when you exercise)? And you're not connecting your steps into MFP to adjust your available calories, and you're not logging in any exercise into MFP? Is that right? Another…
  • Do you have a way to measure your daily steps in the course of everyday living (not purposeful exercise)? Sometimes people think they're sedentary, but they're really lightly active. I ask because walking an hour a day, if you're not also logging that exercise for additional calories, would probably take out out of…
  • I have a Garmin 920XT that I like. It was a little pricier than your spending preference, but it's nice. Has settings for run, bike, and swim, indoor and outdoor, as well as multisport and step counting. The only think I wish it had is on-board MP3s. Would be nice to not have to carry my phone if I want to listen to…
  • 4-mile easy run. 50 deg F and rainy, and I had the bike path completely to myself.
  • My husband was just watching an old performance of our band on YouTube and said, “That IS you! I had to look really close to be sure. You were a TMac-and-a-half back then!” I was actually a TMac-and-a-third (65lbs lost), but close enough. :)
  • I think people are responding to the very restrictive plan you’ve set for yourself. The culture here leans towards: 1. Eating to meet your calorie goals, keeping nutrition and enjoyment in mind. 2. Exercising for long-term health and body composition. The overarching idea is that weight-control is a life-long pursuit, and…
  • Excellent question! Deciding to do it, and actually starting, are hard. Don't make it harder than it has to be. Be gentle and kind to yourself. That's a hard lesson for all of us, especially those of us (like myself) who started out with an attitude that, if it wasn't uncomfortable, then I must not be working hard enough.…
  • No PRs were set, but it was a nice day out and I’m a little amazed I finished as quickly as I did considering that I had a ton of Mexican food and draft beer last night. Not the best fueling decision I’ve ever made.
  • My 5k was hotter than I’d expected and I didn’t come into the day in a good state, digestively speaking (lots of Mexican food and beer yesterday), so I came in 2 minutes slower than my 30-minute target. 9th of 28 in my group. Oh well. I’ll have another shot at it next time. 25.5/40
  • I’m not Arabic, but would like to welcome you to the forums anyway! :)
  • I just returned from Mexican lunch. Supreme steak burrito, mole on the side, chips, salsa verde, two margaritas (from scratch, not a mix, and not too bad calorie-wise), and an accidental tequila shot (gift from the server). As you can see, I am not skilled at choosing wisely, so I make it more about “context” than…
  • @Madwife2009 -- I have to share with you that we're going to be in Yorkshire for three weeks this summer (we're from the U.S.), and I've already printed out my parkrun barcode. You've sold me on it. :)
  • Took a half-day at work today and spent a while strolling around town with the spouse and the dog. BBQ for lunch, dog park, bike path. Nice day! Racing Saturday so I’m taking it easy today and tomorrow.
  • Enjoy the trip! I’ll look forward to reading your race report (even if you are treating it as a training day).
  • 3 miles on the treadmill. Didn’t want to get my brand new shoes wet and muddy quite so soon. 22.9 miles this month.
