  • Yeah, I only got as far as 'www.bodyandsoul." before wrote off the chance of getting any useful information from that article once.
  • Gaining muscle and losing fat have opposite requirements in that losing fat requires a calorie deficit and gaining muscle requires a calorie surplus. Generally the best you can do is to prioritise one and try to minimise the impact on the other. So if trying to lose fat you'll be in a calorie deficit to initiate fat loss…

  • It's funny how you can start picking out the other Aussies in the forums as our posts start popping up around the same time due to the timezone =) I suppose they could be EU or US nightshift workers too, or from East Asia.
  • Yep, generally speaking people in the gym are WAY to focused on themselves to bother paying attention to anyone else. 90% of the people there won't give you a second glance. And the other 10%? Well, 9% will be impressed and supportive that you're getting in there and not sitting on your couch and the other 1% are utter…
  • 100% agree with this. Diving headfirst at 100mph can be intimidating and make things very difficult and the 'ramp up' approach can be more effective. If however you're the type that likes to 'start off with a bang' then by all means get into it BUT give yourself permission to scale back if need be. If things get difficult…

  • It might take a bit of experimentation and adjustment to hone in on the right number. Set your activity level to 'Active' and see how you're gong after about 4 weeks. If you find you're not losing weight or losing at a rate lower than expected then drop your activity level to 'Lightly Active'. If you're losing weight too…
  • Keto is a way of eating that some people find effective as it makes it easier for them to maintain the calorie deficit required to reduce body fat. Skinny fat, fat fat, old fat, new fat. It's all just fat and it's all reduced by being in a calorie deficit regardless of how that is achieved.

  • She's asking for your help. It's not her fault you keep saying yes. And since you keep saying yes then why wouldn't she keep asking for help.

  • Always weigh if it's an option, even liquids if you can. One benefit of weighing is there is less clean up as you're not dirtying cups and spoons. You just place the container on the scale and start adding ingredients, zeroing the scale between each different food if your scale allows it or just keeping a running tally.
  • Hang on, maybe I'm misreading that but are you saying that you're version of IF is to feed for 16 hours and fast for 8 and that 8 hour fast is done during the 8 hours you're asleep between dinner and breakfast? Surely I've misunderstood...
  • Life's full of little fluctuations that everyone needs to cope with. How do you cope with not having sunny weather every day How do you cope with not getting an easy commute to work every day It's unrealistic to think there won't be clouds, it's unrealistic to think there won't be traffic and it's unrealistic to expect to…
  • You could see a chiropractor or go and see an actual medical professional who will be able to offer genuine help. See a doctor or physiotherapist.
  • Is there anyone who's not focused on fat loss? I don't think you'll find anyone who's trying to achieve muscle loss

  • I don't do it very often but I always enjoy a good sauna as I find them relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Particularly so when there's a cold/ pool nearby to jump into. As for any health benefits beyond that I am..... sceptical

  • Do your best with the options you have. It's all you can do. Just rest assured that you'll lose just as much weight eating "unhealthy" options (whatever that means) as long as you maintain the same calorie deficit.
  • Yes, it can be 'easy', or at least it doesn't have to be any harder than it needs to be. That's the problem is people for some reason decide that in order to lose weight it has to be hard, it has to be difficult, it has to be a struggle. It's almost as if people don't think weight loss is valid unless it's a punishment.…
  • Yep. That was me! Working out would lead to increased appetite which would lead to overeating which would wipe out any calories that I'd burned in the gym and then some. Wasn't until I stopped working out that I was able to get my calories under-control and start to regularly lose weight. Biggest lesson I learned is that…
  • Wait! Did I read that right! You pay them $400 and if they don't deliver on their promise they keep the money. So like an anti-money back guarantee. That's backwards. That's now how things are supposed to work. What incentive do they have to help you achieve their goals if it COSTS them money to do so? I mean there are…
  • Just checking that you're aware that MFP has a blog function available for this kind of thing?
  • I was convinced a number of years ago that I was overweight because I was an omnivore and that if I went vegetarian that I'd lose all the weight because, y'know veggies = healthy. Right? This person didn't have an ounce of fat on the so I was sold. It comes as no surprise that unrestricted meals of chips (fries), double…
  • Taste is so subjective and no particular recipe is going to make you lose weight so it's pretty difficult for people to make suggestions. There really is no 'eat this = lose weight' The best recipes for weight loss are the ones you currently have because they're foods and meals that you enjoy and therefore stand a much…
  • I subscribe to a podcast by a group called 'Above & Beyond'. They put out a 2 hour mix each week of electronic music (trance/prog house) which I find perfect for when I'm working out, going for a run or out on my bicycle. The best bit is that since they release a new one each week I'm never listening to the same songs over…
  • Yes, only a little of that was fat. 1 week later I was well on my way to where I started and 2 more weeks after that I was fully back on track. Even had I been away for longer I doubt I would have kept gaining weight at the same rate. Even after 4 weeks I don't think it would have been more than 3-4kg and keep in mind that…
  • Went away for a week, came back about 2kg heavier while having an awesome times, got back to business when I got home. Totally worth it. Life is too short to not enjoy those rare moments to the fullest. Three's 48 other weeks a year to be good and nothing you can do in 4 weeks is going to completely offset that.
  • The only way I can calm my cravings for sweets is to.... eat sweets. I'll just find a way to fit them into my calorie target. Ignoring it won't make it go away and will just make the craving worse until I get to the point where I over-indulge.
  • Why the added pressure of a time limit? What happens if you only lose 8lbs or 5lbs by August? What happens if it takes you till September or October to lose 10lbs?
  • Why do you need to be 190 before returning to work? Are they gong to put you on a scale and fire you if you're not 190? My advice would be to ditch the time limit. Trying to lose weight to a deadline is just unneeded added pressure and it's counter productive.

  • My advice as always is to keep it simple and easy, at least in the beginning. Just follow three steps 1. Put your details into MFP and get your calorie target 2. Eat the same foods you've always enjoyed eating with 1 change. Get a food scale and start to weigh and track everything you eat. Don't go making changes to your…
  • I would guess that with such a small amount to lose that the untracked weekends are where you're running into problems. Even if you don't 'over-indulge' you might be undoing the work you've put in through out the week. Given that the deficit created by your daily calorie target is likely to be in the vicinity of a few…
  • It's really weird but I've found that some people are oddly threatened by others losing weight. Maybe it's because being thinner is something they feel they 'have over' the bigger person and that's being taken away. Maybe it's because they're insecure and think that when the person loses weight they'll not have time for…
