I came into the meet injured and had about three weeks to retrain some of the strength I lost in the bench. I did okay, this was only 3 pounds under last meet PR. Sometimes, you have to do what you can, to get what you can.

Fatigue is an unreliable indicator of progress. If the weight is challenging to you, then you are on track. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the knock-off SL because it is a shallow facsimile of Starting Strength.

4x8 is what I used to build a lot of the muscle and strength that I have now (at least in Bench). I would give myself about two to three weeks before making a 5-10 pound increase depending on the movement. Following all 4x8 reps, I would add 5-10 pounds and go for 6 Reps, then add another 10-15 pounds for 4 Reps, and then…
