  • In my neighborhood, kids pretty much social distance in their "pods" when trick-or-treating, anyway. I'm prepackaging my handfuls of treats; I haven't come up with a way to deliver remotely, though.
  • According to this article, it leans towards populations already having SARS-CoV-2 and other related antibodies: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/08/pandemic-appears-have-spared-africa-so-far-scientists-are-struggling-explain-why
  • Anyone ever try this? It's SO much easier to prepare than yam noodles (I.e., only one rinse/microwave cycle vs. three); that's worth 20 calories to me. I had them in Ramen soup and didn't notice the difference. I don't think I'll be eating wheat or rice-based ramen noodles after this. :)
  • My kid is on the spectrum; they're bringing all the special ed. kids back next week for 5-day, in-person instruction. They are not taking temperature checks unless they suspect they are sick. What gets me is, they are relying on self-report. Generally speaking, kids with special needs aren't the best with communication,…
  • Though I'm contemplating the gym (see above), we're not going anywhere for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Not only are there medically compromised members of my family, but we'd have to quarantine ourselves for two weeks--there are 33 states at the moment on NJ/PA's lists.
  • I stopped by my gym today. The first thing I saw were giant portable air handlers around the place, which is a good start. Masks are also now mandatory, which wasn't true when they first re-opened. They have the machines six feet apart. They have cleaning stations everywhere and the staff reportedly cleans every 30…
  • Turkish Delight is disappointing--I never understood why Edmund in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was so hyped on it...
  • Gym Users in the Northeastern US: How safe do you feel going to the gym these days? My Planet Fitness (don't judge me ;) ) opened several weeks ago, but I still haven't gone after seeing most folks not wearing masks or incorrectly. Have there been gyms that have opened, but then had to close?
  • RE-closing gyms are not because of your gym, it's because of my gym. I went in when it first reopened: machines were farther apart, limited capacity, more strenuous cleaning... ...but only maybe 20% of the people in there were wearing masks, and only a couple of people correctly. Nope. I haven't been back since.
  • Maybe it's all relative--I do work in NJ, where they report 200-300 new cases daily--but I wouldn't say 40 new cases is "roaring" back, as the graph suggests. I think they can tighten up restrictions without the hysteric language. It is troubling that they can't explain the jump.
  • It's times like these I want to be a fly on the wall at R&D...who the *kitten* thought this would a good food product?
  • I just wanted to share today's stats from the nj.gov dashboard. The curve is seems to be finally flattening here; new cases are going down. Though, they just recently reopened pools and hair salons, and day care centers on the 15th, so we'll see if we can hold what we've got...
  • Damn...Caramel Oatmeal Cookie used to be one of the best flavors of ice cream, period! It's been so long since I bought Enlightened, I didn't even realize it was discontinued. :/
  • Their pancake syrup is a gift from the gods.
  • Really? They seem like Raw Rev Glo bars. What don't I know?
  • It's also a question of density. I would think that so many people crowded together in clumps, even six feet from each other, negates the distancing. I'm glad your county is faring so well--it sounds like the lockdown has been effective. I hope your county can open sooner rather than later.
  • I hope these are on Amazon--they stopped carrying my go-to protein cereal, I'm looking for a substitute.
  • Planet Fitness froze it's fees, but, honestly, I'd rather have the choice and opt to pay the $19.99/month and maybe have them continue to pay their employees, at least.
  • I just need to share: I really, really want a haircut right now. That is all.
  • I wasn't going to say anything, but I was wondering why anyone would want to get their hands on them...
  • Not getting political about it, just a general observation. In all walks of life, there are people who have the experience and executive functioning skills to respond well and appropriately in a crisis, like taking appropriate safety measures and helping others: we see them on the news all the time. Some folks just don't…
  • My issue is with trees fornicating, like they do this time of year. I've had the sniffles and a cough for a couple of weeks now, and isn't helping my anxiety much. ("Is it allergies, or will I get a fever tomorrow?)
  • As a Pennsylvanian, I can only say that folks tend to think a bit differently north and west of Harrisburg and is not representative of all of us.
  • This, and to have available self-medication for the rest of us, unfortunately. May I just rant: I work in NJ, and they just closed the libraries!? JFC, PA (or, at least Bucks County and Philly) have had theirs closed for a week now. How many parents took their kids to the library when the schools closed?
  • This evening's observations: 1. The NYT published a story today with charts to demonstrate different levels of response and how they will effect overall outcomes in the US. In every scenario, the peak of outbreak numbers are in July:…
  • At the gym last night: not only was a guy hogging the fly machine (e.g., spending ten minutes on his phone between sets), he was actively picking his nose..a lot. That's really gross normally, but in this day and age? Douchery all around... Thank you for letting me place this here--this was still bugging me today.
  • Wow...just went to the P28 website, all the baked goods are sold out... :/ There is a store near my parents house, though, I'll check these out. :)
  • Are they trying for the Kind bar market? I don't know how I feel about that, especially at 210 calories...
