  • I just got a fitbit and I was shocked at how inactive I was. My goal at the moment is to just do a bit better each day than the day before because right now 10,000 steps is completely intimidating. Great tips from the other posters!
  • I am in the mood for pizza. When the mood strikes, I go for it, so pizza is on the menu tonight. I compensate with a smaller breakfast and lunch on the day. I will still be over, but not a biggie in the grand scheme of things.
  • You have found the right info on you own. This is what I do and it works well. You can also see if you can manage on more calories as 1200 is too low for some and they can continue to lose by eating a bit more. I personally am unable to lose by eating more than 1200/1300 (excluding exercise), but if you still struggle it…
  • I have successfully lost weight all year and I go off the rails often. The big difference is how you view it. You just have to dust yourself off and get back on it. You would not quit a marriage after one fight and this is the same. Think of how resilient you used to be, when you trusted yourself more. Think of how as a…
  • I found that upping my protein really helped in terms of managing my hunger, although I was really rebellious about doing it. I still eat plenty of carbs, but the difference was made by adding some peanut butter or chia seeds to my breakfast oats (I love oats) and by having a decent amount of protein at lunch. I also think…
  • If its not an option to stop buying it, use avoidance tricks to make sure it is not in your line of sight. Store it in a cupboard that you never open. You don't want to be looking at it every time you open your main grocery cupboard. You want to avoid situations where you have to actively resist it. Even the boot of your…
  • This post explains it quite well http://www.drsharma.ca/obesitywhy-is-it-so-hard-to-maintain-a-reduced-body-weight
  • I read an article on this from one of the forums here - but I can't remember where it was posted - maybe someone else can help. There seem to be hormonal (I think) reasons that a person has to eat less after having successfully lost a lot of weight, compared to someone who has never been overweight. There was also a range…
  • I feel as though I am treated differently now and I was not really that big before. The idea that I became more acceptable just with a difference of 13kgs is pretty horrifying to me. I can't be sure that it is not me though - I certainly feel better and more confident - so people may just be responding to that. People are…
  • By the time you are done, I am sure your experience will be both "fast* and "slow" (as both are relative terms). Weight loss starts off fast, but it generally slows down to a crawl when you are working on losing those last few pounds. I imagine that in the last slow months you can then benefit from the getting-used-to-it…
  • I eat at 1200 since April and have lost 13kgs/28 pounds so far (5kg/11pounds more to go to goal). I have lost around 0.4 kg a week/approx 1 pound a week, so even on a low calorie intake it does not necessarily drop off. Some days it is easier than others, that is for sure, but if I pre-log and allow reasonable portions of…
  • You have not said how you feel about it, but if you are worried that counting calories takes too much time and effort - it really doesn't. I put myself off counting calories for years because I was convinced I would not lead a normal life if I did. I was wrong. It is easy, it is quick (and gets quicker as you build up your…
  • I think I will keep logging because it has many benefits outside of weight-loss for me. I may relax some of the weighing and measuring rules, but I am not sure yet. I will decide when I get to goal.
  • It works. There are so many negative things said about calorie counting by charlatans that many people get put off as they are told by the scammers that weighing and tracking your food is a ridiculous amount of hard work. I used to think that too, before joining this site. Controlling my intake has never been as easy as it…
  • Thrilled to know I can get rid of the Chit Chat threads. It has been killing me to sit on my hands and not go in there screaming "WHAT KIND OF LOSERS SPEND ALL DAY HAVING PRETEND SEXY TIME WITH EACH OTHER ON THE INTERNET AND BEGGING EACH OTHER FOR COMPLIMENTS???" Glad I never did that. That would have been rude :)
  • I sometimes feel like the invisible woman, but who cares? No one owes me anything. I will keep on keeping on. If I don't like it I could always leave. Pretending to leave has at least got the OP three pages of responses! woohoo! POP...PU...LAR!!!!
  • I can relate. My manager also runs HR and has told me twice in the past two days that I am skinny, it is not attractive and I must not lose any more weight (said in a dramatic voice). I am still 5kgs from my goal so nope, I am not going to listen to that, particularly as it is coming from the same woman who demanded to…
  • I don't trust mine. I feel hungry for a number of reasons and it seems like very few of them are about what my body actually needs. When I respond to my impulses I make terrible choices. I would just live off cookies and biltong anything with a really strong sweet or salty taste - thats always where my hunger takes me.…
  • I love hot chocolate, but I struggle to fit in the calories, which is why I don't have it that often. I try not to drink my calories where I can help it. I understand the appeal though and there is nothing wrong with a bit of milk if you enjoy it and tolerate it. If you are logging the calories and it fits, why not?
  • I could not put it off any longer as I have only been wearing skirts for months due to none of my jeans or pants fitting me anymore and I went shopping today. I bought 2 pairs of Sissy Boys - stretchy enough that they will still shrink down and fit me at goal, which is one size smaller than now so as to not be a complete…
  • I can relate to this as I experience night terrors and I act out against the things I see (attack my bed partners, claw at windows to escape poison gas, that sort of thing). I can relate to not being in your right mind or in control of your actions at all. I always remember my experiences even though I could not control…
  • I agree with the advice above about setting yourself as sedentary and logging any exercise you do, then eat half back. It is what I do and it is a safe plan - that way if you have a lazy week without exercise you do not need to worry about eating too many calories or trying to work it out again.
  • There is also recomping, which you do without the weight gain. I am no expert, but I hope to become one 11 pounds from now! (I am sure someone with more info can give better advice on that option)
  • I have 11 pounds to go and things are creeping along. I try not to get paranoid about it, but I don't always win that battle. If you don't want your head to be messed with by being super vigilant about your weighing and logging beyond a certain point, here is another approach : Log and weigh exactly the same way you are…
  • The belly does go. Sometimes it is the last thing to go, but it does eventually go. Due to health issues, I have been in menopause since my mid thirties.
  • I try not to snack as little bites of things activates my hunger although I know it works for other people. I stick to 3 planned meals and have just told myself "I don't snack and eat between meals". I just don't do it, its not a thing I do - not negotiable. Changing my thinking has really helped me so that I don't need to…
  • You may have stalled and slowed your weight loss for the week with a day like that but it is unlikely you have gained. I agree with the others on the water weight. I find it take me about a week to see where I really am after a big day of eating. My weight peaks and then levels off and a week later I am at worst almost the…
