Thanks for the responses- I will try reducing my protein intake a little. It seems unlikely that I would get kidney problems or gout, but why take chances? As far as the cost- protein powder is fairly cheap and so are eggs. I'm more concerned about my health than the cost.

Also on my 2nd Mirena, been using it for 7 years total now. Haven't noticed any negative side effects aside from loss of my period.

Just changed my diary setting to public if anyone wants to look :)

Well- I'm 5'2", 37 years old, currently weigh 111 lbs. Would classify my job as lightly active, do cardio 3 times a week and body weight strength training every other day. Checking my diary- I usually hit or get close to my fat target, my fiber intake is hit and miss. Don't get anywhere near the recommended carbs though. I…

Never had any kidney issues beyond the occasional urinary tract infection. So, I unless it causes those I'm probably ok. Checking my diary, my protein intake is usually between 110-150g out of about 1500 calories. That's significantly more than recommended and was wondering if MFP knows something I don't.

Personally, I wear expensive panties made from "performance" fabric. Started with Athleta brand a while back when I wanted underwear to wear to the gym. They were so great I started wearing them every day. Later, I switched to the Oiselle brand pack with the bright colors and catchy sayings on the back ("lead from behind"…

OP, you need to get to the doctor. There is no way for anyone here to diagnose your problem because there are just too many things that go wrong with knees. Don't expect it to get better on its own and don't push yourself to do things that hurt. If you can't get to the doctor today, then RICE it until tomorrow.

Had a very similar injury recently- and got very similar advice from the doctor. Not going to the PT yet, due to insurance issues. I cut out all my leg exercises except for glute bridges :( Hoping my knee heals with time and I can go back to my routine. OP, let us know what your outcome is since this is a very common…

I may have misunderstood- assumed that OP had existing bruises and wanted to work around them. Foam rollers are big and difficult to target areas with.

My method for sticking to it- having friends that keep me accountable. Everyone I know knows about my gym schedule so if I miss a day I have to answer to them. "How was gym day today?" "You didn't go? Are you feeling ok?" "Umm...well, I got really busy at work and then it was late and then...umm..." It's easier to go than…

You can use balls- like tennis balls or lacrosse balls to roll out the tension. They work better than the foam rollers for small targeted areas

Feeling your pain with the knees :( Obviously, stop doing things that make them worse until you can get to the doctor to get checked out. There are many things that can go wrong with knees and sometimes they start out mild but get worse very quickly.

Lol, I guess it's been awhile since I've taken any time off. Part of the reason I was so surprised was because I had been at a plateau and had started to accept that I had found my limits. This didn't bother me since I do cardio because of the way it makes me feel not to become some super athlete. The lesson may be that…

Wow- that is so sad :'( Great reminder to respect the water and never swim alone.

The only advice is to be patient. Healthy eating and exercise are lifestyle choices that you will continue for the rest of your life. Imagine yourself 20 years from now and how grateful you will be that you made the choice to improve your fitness when you did. That said, you won't start to see any muscle definition till…

I'm not quite as large as you or most of the women who have posted- but I've had success with Champion Powersleek style 1691 bras. Sometimes I still double up with a good regular bra for really high impact activity though.

Wow- just read through this whole crazy thread. Lots of good info and advice here (even if you have to sift through some other stuff too). My advice- start with planks and plank variations to strengthen your core. They are great exercise and are unlikely to cause injury.

Um....what?!? Training at 164 HR (or higher during HIIT) seems very reasonable for someone in your age group. Keep doing cardio- in my experience your far more likely to gain muscle than lose it.

This is what I think too. My suspicion is that he learned how to do squats from his coaches in high school/college- which was more than a few years ago.

There is a lot of good advice about proper form here- my guess is that my friend may have learned improper form and subsequently got injured. His reaction was negative because of his painful memories. For the record- he's not a trainer or a guru, just a friend. I was asking his advice because I knew he had knee injuries…

After reading advice on this forum, I started using the forms outlined in the strong lifts 5x5 program. The consensus seems to be that these are good and the videos and descriptions of the technique are excellent.

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! Thanks especially to those who have knee and back issues and reported that they can do these exercises safely. This confirms my original feelings that my exercise routine is basically safe. Going forward, I will continue to do it but will stay cautious. To be fair to my friend, he…

But then again we don't know how you got your knee injury? hahaha [/quote] I almost fell off a rock wall while trying to clean my heat pump. Caught myself before falling but twisted my leg. :( For the record, he is completely against anybody doing any squats with any amount of weight. He had stories of friends he used to…

As far as body re-comp, it is possible because I've done it. That said, it's really slow and inefficient. Despite my best efforts, I felt like I was getting nowhere on both the weight loss and the muscle building for several months. I felt like I would die if I had to drink another protein shake. Eventually, I looked in…

Umm...no, that's a little more contact than I would be comfortable with in a coed game. Flag football might be okay though.

There are lots of women who play sports. Maybe try to find a women-only team and avoid the drama guys bring in? Let's face it- men are handicapped by their testosterone and may be unable to look at you as "just one of the guys." This might be especially difficult in a full contact sport. Personally, I wouldn't play any…

There is a discussion about socks here too that has some good advice. As a hiker, I would recommend a good pair of socks and good shoes. Your foot shouldn't move around much in your shoe and a tough pair of thick socks helps too. My favorites are the wool Darn Tough socks and the thick Thorlos. The tape is a good idea too-…

As a hiker, I'm all about good socks. Nothing like experiencing sock failure 5 miles into a 10 mile hike to drive home the importance of socks :/ My favorites are the Darn Tough wool socks followed by the Thorlos. The Darn Tough coolmax socks are good too but not quite as durable as the wool. I wear them for all exercise,…

The PF advertisements sound obnoxious but I've never seen them and am happy to remain oblivious. The PF I go to seems to be better than most of the ones described here. Most of the employees are very young but in incredible shape (biceps as big as my head in some cases). The people who go there seem to fall everywhere on…
