Welcome back :) I'd say my biggest motivation is in charting every bite and sip, weighing in daily, being a part of this forum and cheering on my friends. Good luck!

Welcome to MFP! Great place with loads of helpful information, experience and advice.

You've taken the first step. Glad you're here!

40-year old here and can understand your frustration. What has helped me move the scale is reading nutritional labels, weighing EVERYTHING, journaling every bite and drink and holding myself accountable. Keep plugging away and never give up!

Lisa that is wonderful! You are definitely where I want to be as I have similar stats and goals. Started my journey at 241, have lost 20 lbs so far, and want to be around 150 (according to the health chart). I'm thrilled that MFP has helped me learn how to be healthier, live and love myself through nutrition, exercise and…

First off, welcome! MFP is a great place and a wealth of knowledge (and it's free!). Spend time reading through older posts and searching for topics. Start journaling every bite, every sip, every fruit and veggie, etc. Start reading nutrition labels and do your research. Clean out your kitchen, pantry, fridge of…

Is there any other exercise you can tolerate? Swimming? Bouncing on a ball? Stationary bike? Small baby steps and you'll be surprised at how you progress :) Congratulations on the 18 lb weight loss!!!

How is this strategy working for your weight loss?

Thank you, Meelisv. I looked up the scale you mentioned and that's definitely in the running for my next scale purchase. Very cool!
-
Wow, so thankful to have your replies before we spend $60!

Welcome, Helen. This is such a great, motivating place to learn health and nutrition. You can do this one bite, one meal, one day at a time :)

It's something we grew up with in a privileged world. "Finish off your plate" or you sit there until you do. I remember from an early age having to do this and it stays with me still. Thankfully we can adjust this for our kids and begin to teach them healthy portion sizes, measurement with scales, spoons, cups, and to read…

This is great! Thanks for posting this. Lounmom that makes sense, too. I also rely on mints. Pausing for 20-30 mins is a good way to think when eating. Like your verbage.

Haha, thank you for the feedback! I agree if I hung out near food and "waited" to feel full, I'd never feel it. I'm learning not to be an emotional eater and doing relatively well! I do distract myself with exercise, reading, baths, etc. and drink my water and herbal tea to keep me busy without adding calories, but my…

I feel ya! I have been charting my food/drinks on and off since 12/2015. For about 6-9 months I did great losing weight (about 20 lbs) but then slowly started my old bad habits of eating whatever I wanted. I gained all that 20 lbs and more so! As of today, I'm officially back where I started (weight-wise) and recommitted.…

Kat, I get what you're saying. I have a desk job but fortunately I can stand and work, too. I usually walk 30 mins during my morning meeting at a brisk pace. I want to eventually work up to jogging in place. Congrats on taking those first steps! Jogging seems like it would be so freeing.

You've got this, Sara! Congratulations on the surgery and now on to the recovery and the rest of your life

I work a desk job from home so I have the luxury of looking weird for no one to notice :) I purchased a Veridesk (one of my best investments yet!) and I walk during daily meetings for 30 mins to earn about 4,000 steps. I agree with frequent bathroom breaks and refills of water (which can be a vicious cycle) and use your…

Better than Boullian products are wonderful to cook with. 1 tsp=1 stock cube and dramatically lowers the sodium count (500 mg sodium vs. 1700 mg). Bragg Amino Acid liquid is about 1/3 the sodium content of soy sauce. Try fresh herbs like parsley, basil, ginger, dill weed, oregano. Garlic and black pepper and onions. Giving…

I used to work night shift as a nurse, 12 hours. All due respect to ya! It's super hard to be healthy and not gain weight on nights. One thing that seemed to help me was eating small portions every 2-3 hours like celery, carrots, raw nuts, cheese stick, popcorn. Stay away from fried or fast foods. Oh and drink water!

Adjust your macros, eat less calories, move more and journal every bite/drink.
