  • Nope....not kidding. For the people on mfp who are relatively new to lifting (myself included), what we're doing isn't worth eating back. Ive been lifting heavy 3-4 times/wk for a year now and if I ate back what the app "awards" me my weight would start to skyrocket. I gave my reply based on who was asking, which is…
  • Because it barely burns anything. You can still log it under "cardio" and it will give you a calorie burn for it, but I wouldn't eat very much of it back. That's not to say that lifting isn't doing great things for your body, because it is!
  • This pretty much sums it up. It comes down to a choice we all have to make for ourselves.
  • Very true. Well, you could just go to bed and carry those calories over until tomorrow. Get your ice cream with the kids.
  • Yup. It's so much nicer to think there's some sort of secret or trick to having a nice belly, but...there isn't. It's a simple as what's listed above. It will get you there if you give it a chance. Just stick with your deficit, strength train, get your protein daily, and....it will come. Patience/persistence is big though…

  • Yeah...that's pretty much what I had read somewhere else and why I asked about it. Good to know you think it's worked for you.

  • I'm so glad you said this because I have the exact same thing when doing a plank.....
  • I am still doing phul...yeah. Ice cream fitness doesn't get mentioned too much here, but I absolutely loved that too. I agree about switching things up every so often. I like having some variety, so I figure as long as I'm sticking with my compound movements, then tweaking the accessory stuff in a program now and then…
  • Thought I would check in since its been 2mos. I've lost 4lbs and am now maintaining at 118. This is the absolute limit for how far I'm willing to go as far as weight. Lost a bit as far as inches too. Upper arm .5" Waist .5" Belly 1.5" Hips 1 1/4" Thighs .5"
  • Weighing all my food was the big thing. Losing is all about calories. I also made sure I got all my protein in daily. As far as exercise, I do some walking and a little cardio at the gym. I primarily lift weights though.
  • I mostly have sandwiches or wraps. Thin bagels are only 110cals and the wraps I buy are only 50. Lunch meat/tuna/bean burger, with cheese, lettuce, light mayo. For a side either fruit, cottage cheese, or a small bag of chips. Usually this comes to 350-400cals.
  • I'm 5'4 Started at 157lbs and now at 118 Waist started at 29.5, now 24.5 Hips started at 40.5, now at 35 Thighs started at 24.5, now at 21 1/4
  • Yeah....you're right. LOL! Maybe I'm just doing too much reading online because that's where all this is coming from. Like maybe I'm missing something.... I'm not against gaining a little weight back. I've been hoping that if I could just whack a little more fat off me that I could possibly try a bulk. But then again, if I…

  • I just read something somewhere suggesting that sticking more to complex carbs and heavy protein could help. But yeah....calories are calories despite everything else. I don't know. Maybe I'm just not trusting the process.... And I'm not eating at a deficit but rather trying to stick as close to flat out maintenance as I…

  • Yeah. I couldn't do low carb consistently because it gets old really fast for me. And...I love my carbs! LOL! Didn't know if sticking to more proteins/fats/low carb veggies/fruits could help with attacking fat I guess....

  • You have to keep in mind that it says "if every day were like today", meaning exact calories in and calories out every single day. That's where the prediction falls short because our food intake and calorie burn differs day to day. For most people anyway... I think it's good to give a general idea of where you're heading…

  • Yes, and I'm really sick and tired of it. I've lost 40lbs and I understand that I look very different. I also understand that my face and shoulders look a bit gaunt because I'm smaller on top to begin with. I've gotten so far: You've lost so much. You have to be done??? I was looking at your neck, and...you're too thin. I…
  • This is what I do in my apartment. I throw some jumping jacks or something in between to get my heart going but I'm not constantly pounding on the floor. I understand about having neighbors beneath you (I do too) but the office asking you to keep quiet during the day just so they don't have to deal with unwarranted…
  • I'll third it. What someone said about you having a lil extra skin there could be the case as well. I still have a small pooch myself (5'4 and 118lbs) and part of it is indeed skin.... Weights have really helped my belly though.
  • This is what I was going to say as well. You have a great plan in place so just keep doing as you are now and you'll find your sweet spot for maintenance. Congratulations on how far you've come!!!
  • It doesn't matter at all. I've always been a nighttime eater so I tailor my days such that I can have dinner and then still snack until bedtime. That's how I like to eat so I'm not fighting it. And...I lost 40lbs while doing it.
  • I haven't read any other responses, but my initial thought was....he must be cooking what he likes on his nights, sooooo....if you tailor your nights to fit what he'll eat without griping, are you ever gonna get to eat how you want to? If it's that much of an issue then I think you should each make double of whatever you…
  • I haven't done it but don't think there's anything wrong with it. Eggs had gotten a bad rap but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. That's a whole lotta egg eating though.

  • Sorry, but I have to agree with this. It's two cookies. 140 calories. That's making no difference to anything (unless it's regularly....). I think it's a bit extreme to think you have to start doing cardio to burn that off. It would be very stressful in the long run having that strict of a mindset.
  • I would say just make sure you don't lose the weight too fast so your skin has some time to start snapping back. I think many of us will be left with some loose stuff no matter what we do though.

  • If you're close to your goal weight, have you thought about starting to eat at maintenance and recomping?
  • I don't use soreness as a guide because you don't have to be achy to have worked out effectively. But you do have to be mindful of continually bumping up those weights if it's getting too easy. The idea is to keep challenging yourself, but not so much that you're sacrificing form.
  • Whenever I lost weight in the past I always did tons of cardio because I didn't know any better. Spending some time with weights was a treat to do after getting that cardio in. This time around I did minimal cardio and stuck to heavy lifting. My body is totally different this time. I've gotten stronger, have a hint of abs…
  • In a way I feel like this too. That being said however, I've always been good at dropping weight, but the "keeping it off" part....that's what never went well. I've been maintaining for nearly 5mos now which is huge for me. I'm opting to concentrate on that. It IS an ongoing victory for me. One thing that's helping is…
  • I'm an early morning person, and I have a huge tendency towards crashing by mid afternoon. I eat a lighter lunch because being too full makes me lazy quick. Keeping it a bit lighter as far as carbs helps. Also, I try not to sit during my whole lunch hour. The longer I sit...the lazier I get.
