Yup. That's how I would handle it. Once I got comfortable enough with people in my office I just laid it out there and said...two lunches are equivalent to a tank of gas, and I need the gas money more than the sandwich.

Yeah....I will. I had a digital scale that never worked well, so when it broke I went back to a generic one. I'm thinking about bulking eventually too, so that'll force me to make the switch.
-
Yeah...I completely get that. And I'm not exactly young anymore.... But I do understand the desire to do whatever it takes to establish solid relations in the workplace even if it's goes a bit outside your comfort zone.

Oh man....don't tell me this! LOL! I'm using a plain old analog scale and I like the number it's giving me! (((Sticks fingers in her ears)))
-
I don't even get this fancy. LOL! I've been happy olive oil and some salt and pepper lately. With a good mix of stuff in it, a salad doesn't need any more than that for me.

And I don't understand why people don't understand where she was going with this. She's completely new there and people are trying to make her feel welcome by reaching out and including her. It can be a little uncomfortable to start declining right off the bat because while you want (and do need) that free time to get…

Ummmmm....no.

I really like this.

Following along with this...while my coworkers did give me and my homemade lunches the stink eye, they would also start saying "I really should do that too". Then I casually mentioned how eating out just doesn't fit within my budget, and I could see them pondering that too. They still primarily stick to going out, but I…

Yeah...if they're continually tight you know to back off a little. LOL! But if someone is retaining some water...their midsection get a bit bloated so a waistband feels tighter, that's just the way it goes sometimes. Nothing to get crazy over.
-
A little off topic....but if recomping is eating around maintenance, and a 250cal surplus is recommended as the minimum for bulking, is there a chance of adding a little additional mass if one does a slightly smaller surplus of 100-150?

I have this same issue. People at my office seemed very confused by the fact that I don't go out for lunch. It's not just because of my diet though. I simply can't afford to eat out every day. I can bring food that's just as good (and looks ok in my diary) for much cheaper, and keep that lunch money for taking my son out…

Bikini! LOL! Skinny jeans and workout gear in cute colors that are more form fitting and brightly colored rather than choosing things to hide myself. Sleeveless shirts for summer too.

I've been maintaining for 6mos now, and I'm getting much better about that. In the beginning I did freak out a lot, but now after some time has gone by I see how over/under eating here and there just tends to even itself out. My weight fluctuates a couple pounds up sometimes, but now I can pinpoint if it's water, a day of…

I don't know. Maybe you did. Every time I've ever set out to lose weight the first place it (and inches) come off is around my waist/belly. It comes off pretty fast there for me, so for you it could be possible on your chest. But...you could've measured wrong too. I do that a lot if the tape isn't in the exact same spot or…

I'm 44yo. 5'4 and 116lbs. I lift heavy 4xs/wk and do light cardio 2-3days/wk. I average about 7k steps/day. My maintenance calories are 1700-1750.

For me....every time switch up my lifting I start retaining water. It lasts a few days and then it's gone...untilthe next time I switch things up. It ebbs and flows like everything else so I just ignore it.

I'm a dental hygienist, which is pretty sedentary because I sit while treating people all day. Nothing I can do to change that.... Im set to "lightly active" though because I strength train in the morning before work, and walk with my dog in the evenings. Sometimes I walk on my lunch hour too.
-
I wake up at 4:30 and start my workout at 5. If you want to work out in the morning, then yep...just do it. You get used to it.

Managing ones weight is about overall intake. Not one food over another. I'd never survive on a vegan diet. Not that I'm a huge fan of meat, but...no way.
-
As long as that's enough food to hold you until dinner and you're maintaining whatever weight you've chosen, then yeah...go for it. Congratulations!
-
If you're pleased with what you've accomplished so far then that's great op. What everyone is trying to convey though is that...if as those weights are getting easier to handle (which they will) and you keep gradually increasing the weight to make it more challenging again...you'll get an even better result. The trick to…

This is me too. My hair is so dry from chemical treatments that I don't wash it but a few times a week. I just keep it tied up at the gym and it's fine. Not only that, but I workout early mornings before work and I'm not dealing with waking even earlier to wash/dry long thick hair. I wash it in the evening at home.
-
I've been lifting 4xs/wk for close to a year now. You can add me if you like.
-
I'm 5'4...118lbs. I strength train for 1hr 4xs/wk with very minimal cardio. Average 7k steps per day. I maintain on 1700.
-
Very wise to start doing this now. To get everything firming up you need to start strength training. The little light weights won't cut it. Lift weights, and lift em heavy. That will really start improving your shape. Look up some beginner weight training programs.

Good for you!

You can lose weight eating what's available at home. What I would suggest is scraping together enough money to get yourself a food scale. I'm sure you would rather spend money on better food given the choice, but scales are a fantastic tool that will enable you to eat what you have on hand (in the right quantities) to lose…

Nothing to be nervous about. Maintenance is awesome! LOL! Just don't be surprised if you find that you have to play around for a bit before you find where you'll settle in calorie-wise. And...that in maintenance the scale does still jump around some normally. You'll be fine. Congratulations!!!

No...you're right that it's not always the correct answer, and...the discussion is one sided. But the fact that she is hesitant to fess up for fear of being humiliated by having to stand on a scale under supervision, and nervous about his reactions, which...judging by the silence she's been awarded with doesn't seem too…
