  • I’m pescatarian, but not for weight control. I’ve been a chubby pescatarian and a thin one over the past 20 years. I just don’t like meat. Too much cheese and too many carbs and desserts can do me in, so I add more fish and veggies, cut down on junky carbs to rebalance. That’s where I am now, post holiday and mid winter.
  • I’m giving up alcohol and adding a Lenten devotional (Blessed is She). Not sure what else.
  • Sat with bowl of chips directly in front of me. Didn’t eat one. Nor any cheese dip. Also declined wine. I’ve been exercising a ton, but that has led to “well, I can justify this extra wine/dessert/chips” far too often. So I’m cutting back on a bit on exercise (hip has been protesting) and tightening up logging. Three days…
  • Took chip out of bag. Looked at it, put it back in. Made a salad, with some frozen blueberries and a little cereal for crunch in unsweetened vanilla coconut milk for dessert.
  • Walking and running an average of 6 miles a day this month. Set up indoor bike, did my first beginner spin class this morning and followed it up with a 20 min yoga session. I’m realizing I need to vary my workouts a bit, so will try and work on that this week!
  • Under calories yesterday, went to a friend’s house and brought my favorite humongous homemade chocolate chip cookies. Had a salad and one small piece of pizza for dinner, and despite maybe a bit too much wine I did not eat a cookie. Not when my husband offered one, not when friend’s adorable little daughter literally…
  • The aftermath of a 5 weeks of eating all the things all the time: up 7lbs. The aftermath of day 1 of eating at a slight deficit and continuing exercise: down 1.6lbs. I’m sure there’s another pound or two of water weight/ovulation bloat. So, worse than I had hoped but not insurmountable. At least I know what to do—log food,…
  • Area news reporting record hospitalizations in my area—93-95%utilization of ICU beds and 89-92% of acute care. What is not being reported (at least in my cursory search) since earlier this month is ER status—from folks working inpatient at a local hospital, patients who need emergent procedures are having to wait hours—I…
  • I have been thinking about this lately, in regard to my children. I consider the older two athletes—they play competitive soccer, one on one of the top teams in the state, they both run (and score points for their team in) cross country, and one is on a school league climbing team. After my 2nd’s team played 5 games in two…
  • Still celebrating Christmas here as well! But still trying to get mostly back to normal in the eating department, though planning some fun treats on NYE and Epiphany. All the indulgence has gotten to “ugh” phase when the goodies don’t taste as good, the bloating is just far too uncomfortable, and my body is pleading with…
  • Christmas Eve and pants still fit. Definite NSV with my devil may care attitude toward eating all the things lately. But real NSV is rode my bike to drop off Christmas goodies to a friend and pick up gifts at a bookstore across town—20 miles round trip. Would not have thought that possible or even considered riding that…
  • Thanks for the tips! Mostly my issue has been frozen toes, more so with biking than walking, but after an hour or so they’re pretty chilly no matter what. No socks are making this better, so I guess I’ll have to buy some hiking boots. Have been trying to avoid shoe shopping bc I have wide feet and sometimes they’re tough…
  • Rode my bike to the bike shop to get a back rack and basket for errands. The man who installed my rack commented, “you’re livin that bike life, huh?” Well, not yet but I’m trying! Two Target pickups, one wine shop trip, and a donut store trip so far this week thanks to new basket! So much more pleasant than riding with a…
  • Oh my word THANK YOU for posting that! I am going through the same things—2 months ago my boobs hurt mid cycle for a week. I thought it was bc I bruised something doing a lot of fully harnessed climbing/zip lining. Next month, nothing (of course, the month I actually see my OBGyn for annual exam 🙄). Now I am on day 3 of…
  • I am not a very social person, but have been hearing more and more about people in my wider social circle feeling lonely, depressed, and disconnected, so I put out an invite to my local homeschooling group to join me for 7 am walk, prayer, and social time two mornings a week. Today was the first morning—30 degrees, biked…
  • 5.5 m walk last night, 15 mile bike ride this morning. And cleaned all the things. Bring on Thanksgiving!
  • Not sure how big this bulge is or if it’s truly a fat roll, but for what it’s worth, I kept wondering what was sticking out under my boobs. Turns out my rib cage was flared out after having 4 big babies. My PT taught me some diaphragmatic breathing exercises and some exercises for the transverse abdominals and my lower rib…
  • Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I’ve been thankful for this thread, for a chance to hear what is going on in different areas of the country and the world from sources “on the ground”. A week or so ago I posted that it felt like Covid was circling us, getting ever closer. Just got a call yesterday that my MIL and my SIL’s…
  • I view the numerical guidelines as a way for people who don’t want to make others feel bad/offend them/whatever to use an an excuse/ “blame The authority” when declining an invitation or deciding not to host an event. Much like we give teenagers the “out” to blame their parents for their overprotective lame rules in order…
  • The last few weeks have really brought home the theme of “memento mori”. A cousin in his 50s diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer. A friend in her 40s in her final days of at home hospice. A triathlete, healthy eating fanatic friend in his 30s having a massive stroke. Another friend in her early 40s bedridden with a…
  • Starting to look at errands differently. I’ve now gone to Target (8 mile round trip) a few times, the donut shop to get the kids’ Saturday treat (10 m rt), and just got back from delivering food to a sick friend (14 m rt) on my bike. Instead of thinking how I can squeeze in my errand and my workout, I realized I can…
  • Transitioning my exercise routine from gym to home is necessitating a wardrobe shift. It’s getting cold and tank top and capris are not cutting it. I was having a hard time finding reasonably priced women’s activewear that I could layer AND that would be bright enough to help visibility outdoors just after dawn or at…
  • Our trees like to take for-ev-er to drop their leaves—it started in Sept and will *maybe* be (mostly) done in January. Things are still tenaciously clinging to life and off gassing some terrible noxious allergens and it never really stops bc our winter is a joke. It’s just rainy and cold but generally without enough real…
  • I do something every day, or probably 28/30 days. But it’s not hitting it hard every day. I will either walk 4-7 miles or bike an hour every day, lift weights 5-6 days a week.
  • I’ve been waking up at 4:45 (why?? 😩) every day this week. The extra time gives me about an hour before I need to be home getting breakfast ready, so it’s really boosted my cardio—I have ridden 40 miles on my bike and walked 17 miles since Sunday! At the beginning of lockdown I could only ride for 20-30 minutes and now I…
  • The unthinkable has happened here. Soccer has been canceled. Well, not all of it, just my 2nd son’s crazy competitive team canceled the end of the season bc two players have family members with Covid and a third pulled out after that. I’m surprised we lasted this long, with our county leaving its previous “bad day” # of…
  • Leave so many? That’s my dinner all the time. I eat a bigger dinner, so 600 minimum! If I’m facing fewer than 6-700 calories at 4 pm I’m planning a late walk or bike. (Dinner is at like 5, so usually need a post dinner snack 😂) Big salad w salmon, veggies, sweet potato, fish or veggie burger. Rx bar for mid evening…
  • First “let’s see where this road goes” longer bike ride. It wasn’t fast or pretty, esp with a near constant headwind the last 8 miles, but it’s done!
  • I’ve been working out at home since the gym closed in March (it’s been open for months now, but I’m still working out at home). Pro: no commute, can split workouts to fit into schedule, can do multiple shorter workouts instead of one long session. I tend to walk/bike outside more than when I went to the gym. Con: lack of…
  • My area isn’t super bike friendly if you actually want to go somewhere (as opposed to just an out and back spin on the green line), but I figured out a way to get to Target, so did my pickup via bike! Did feel pretty funny sitting on my bike in the pickup aisle, but it was fun and only took 10-15 min more than driving.
