One trick I use is to eat about 2/3 of my lunch, and then go for a brisk walk around the office park where I work. If I'm still hungry when I get back, I give myself permission to eat the rest of what I brought, but 95% of the time I just needed some time to register the full feeling. I get a good walk in as a bonus.

Looks like you're well on the way!

It's absolutely fine to start back on your journey with baby steps. As others have said, one half a**ed walk is better than none. My motto is I only need to beat two people when I run -- the person who stayed at home on the couch, and the person I was a month ago. And that half a**ed walk will help SO much with the…

I'm also in the "cheat day = huh?" camp. I work treats into my week on a regular basis. If I have a special event coming up or really want that rack of baby back ribs, I work in a long run or bike ride. If I go over my calories one day, I don't beat myself up -- I just cut back a bit (or exercise more) the next two or…

You rock!

I still try to count when a special event comes up. If I know it's coming, I'll adjust lunch/snacks to allow room. Otherwise, I just count it, go for reasonable portions, and don't beat myself up if I go over. I find that doing the best job I can counting makes me think about what I'm eating and why, and that usually keeps…

Another Strava user, for both runs and rides. I track on my Garmin and let Garmin push to Strava. Co-workers who use the Strava app constantly complain about its accuracy (but, the price is right...) I like the more fine-grained record keeping on Strava, and it's fun to cheer on my friends when they set a PR or three.…

Way to go! I know you'll get there.

I followed the instructions at Fitbit's help and it synced like a charm.

Basing my answer on winter weather I've experienced while vacationing in Victoria/Vancouver... I would just run in tights and a long sleeve tech shirt. A light weight hat is nice, if only because humid weather makes any sweat drip instead of evaporate, and the headband can stop stuff from running into your eyes and…

+1 for the foam roller. It's tough love, but it works.

Clif Organic Energy Food in the Pizza Margherita flavor. I was 30 miles into a 60 mile ride, discovered that was all that was in my pack, broke it open and ate half. Literally could not finish it and threw it out. I was famished by the time I got back, but that was better than eating another teaspoon of that cr*p. I can't…

I run/bike 4 days a week (usually 2+2 if weather and light allow), and lift 2 days a week. I'm really liking what the strength training is doing for my running and biking.
-
This. I've been lifting for 6 months, and I still get intimidated when moving to a new piece of equipment (or today when I had to go to a new gym). It's 110% mental, because when I do something new everyone is super nice, I don't hear any snickering behind my back, and I feel awesome when I'm done.

Many of the smaller running stores not only carry sports bras that will lock everything down, but will let you make an appointment with a trained fitter. So very worth it.

Like Kitty_Nikki said, often when a spouse isn't supportive, it's because of fear. Either fear that you're shaping up for someone else, or that you're also going to change in some other way, or because it means they have to face their own unhealthy habits. Ultimately, it comes down to communication (heh, like everything in…

Heh, you wouldn't be the slowest person in our running group, so you're doing GREAT! When I run, there's only two people I'm trying to beat. The person who stayed at home and sat on the couch, and the person I was a month ago. Beat those people, and you've won the race, as far as I'm concerned.
-
You can do it! I've lost 90 from my heaviest, 20 more to go. It's SO worth the effort. Remember that when you have down days.

So far my best jerky has been Sriracha-lime lamb jerky. The only problem is it doesn't last. I think the last batch was gobbled up in about 2 days.

Another vote for the SL5x5 app. I use the Android version, and it includes a short questionnaire to help you figure out the weight to start at, and tells you exactly the weight to use for each workout based on what you did the prior workout. It's free, although you can pay for a couple of bells and whistles.
-
Awesome! I've been doing strength on the machines for 6 months and just changed over to SL last week. What a difference -- half the weight is a harder work out because of the whole balancing thing. So glad I learned about SL here.

Excellent reward!

Calories come from fat, carbs, or protein. So if you want calories without fat or carbs, you're looking at protein. Realistically, you're probably wanting things like brown rice and beans, other whole grains, and whole milk. These all have fat and carbs as well, but it's a reasonable amount from healthy sources. (As…

That's going to totally depend on your height and build. I have more than 120 pounds of lean body mass, so 120 would be a horrible weight for me. The right weight for you is one where you're healthy and feel good about yourself. Body fat percentage is a good way to measure if you're healthy, but liking what you see in the…

I left WW about a month ago. I had a lot of success with them, but I wanted to track my macros and I was getting really annoyed with all the technical glitches. I'm having as much success with MFP as I did with WW. I was concerned at first that having to log my fruits and veggies would be burden, but it's not. And I've…
-
Another vote for logging. It made me really think about how much I was eating and why I was eating it. Second best thing was committing to regular exercise. Some days I'm not feeling it, but I still get out there. Might be a walk instead of a run (like today), but I'm still reinforcing the habit.

I would pay money to change that photo. Hmm... maybe this could be a revenue idea for states? LOL

Woo hoo! I just finished day 1, and I'm feeling great too. :)

:) Thanks for the chuckle!

Try out several different things, because the best exercise is the one you'll actually do. In the short term, cardio will burn more calories, which means more fat lost. In the long term, strength will build more muscle, which will help keep the fat from coming back. If you like both, no reason not to do both (I do). Just…
