FYI - I found that CarbSmarts spiked my blood glucose suspiciously high, to the point that I wrote to the company about it. I don’t trust their package info. Has your husband been testing after eating them? It may just be a me thing, but take the stated nutritional info with a grain of salt.

Okay, with all due respect, do what now? A dietician wants you to stop eating food completely and replace all three meals with a protein shake? Why? Do you have some illness we haven’t talked about? Because this is the exact opposite of current medical advice.

Congrats on AG place and a great race!

I’m so sorry to hear that! Many of us have various injuries, running and otherwise, which have sidelined us in the past. Feel free to stick around if you want - or not - when I was injured and couldn’t run it was too painful reading about others running! But if you want to log walking miles, or progress towards your…

The recommended weekly maximum rate of loss is 1% of body weight. If you weigh 560 lbs, your current rate of loss is appropriate. If not, you need to hit the brakes. Losing quickly sounds fun until 4 months from now when all your hair starts falling out because you shocked it into dormancy. Also, losing too rapidly means…

@CMorning99 There’s no way to know what you will get from the family. My advice is to have a friend with you who can stay between you and them. In the case of the two brothers who were part of the three people who murdered my friend, knowing some more about the family was helpful in understanding why it happened and helped…

I feel like there’s a class aspect in these fads to cancel certain fabrics. I prefer merino wool base layers but only only one because I can’t afford it - recently got one on sale. For the price of one decent merino base layer I could buy six fleece ones. It’s definitely a first world privilege to afford to be outraged…

Lupus flare seems to be receding, fingers crossed. My main symptom of flares is vasculitis which can vary from just having polka dot feet to being flat on my back unable to stand up without heart palpitations so I’m very happy this one seems to be going away without causing much trouble! My heart rate and BG are still a…

I missed the kitty post the first time, didn’t see the spoiler. So happy you saved a kitty!

Let us know if anything helps! If it is blood glucose, upping fiber and protein can help stabilize it.

I was just thinking about @Avidkeo since she is the one who suggested doing a memorial run this autumn and it’s about that time. You out there?

One tip for flavoring your own yogurt is cooking extracts. I add vanilla, hazelnut, almond, or orange extract to mine before mixing in berries. Lemon or orange zest is another great additive which packs a lot of flavor without sweetener.

I think you look amazing, would love to have those arm muscles! It sounds to me as if you are legitimately hungry. You are at a healthy weight, and being at a competition level of bodyfat isn’t sustainable for anyone for any length of time, or even healthy. Are you sure “the next level” is really a laudable goal?

Wonder if your blood glucose is dipping during the night, does the headache retreat if you have a quick digesting shot of carbs, like a small glass of juice?

Aw, he looks so much like the lab I had as a teenager! Ours was a Christmas puppy - it was Christmas evening and I was driving over with my boyfriend to spend the evening at his house after spending the day with my family, and someone driving in front of us on a country road threw a pair of young puppies from a moving car.…

Since lupus is an autoimmune reaction, anything that alerts the immune system tends to cause a flare - a little cold, a stomach flu, usually leads to a flare. Vaccines included! I lifted today and felt much better than yesterday, despite getting not enough sleep, so it seems like it might be fine. My mom’s doctor sent her…

There are so many other things that could cause a numb foot. I have diabetes, btw. With just one foot numb and not both, I would worry about a pinched nerve behind the knee before I would think about diabetes. Especially in a young person of normal weight. I’m wondering whether the doctor’s office maybe has a file on the…

Not sure what ethical issues you are referring to… from the context it sounds as if you feel it would be somehow “unethical” to violate your non-plant diet? But I’m not seeing any morality there to be violated. You chose this way of eating and can choose another way of eating if it’s more useful to you. The plant police…

Having a bit of a lupus flare following my booster, which isn’t surprising as I had a flare for about a week following dose 1&2. Just some vascular inflammation so far, lifted and ran anyway and didn’t die, but not 100%. I’m hoping it will go away instead of getting worse, you never know with lupus. 5k supposed to be a…

Not an expert on heart problems as such, but I *am* an expert on waking up in the middle of the night with weird heart problems wondering if I should go to the ER! Waking up in the middle of the night makes me wonder about sleep apnea, particularly if you are overweight (I don’t know if you are, but since you’re on these…

That’s a beautiful puppy! Our lifestyle is just not dog-friendly. We had a boxer in college and that lasted about two months before we gave her to my dad, who fortunately for us was delighted. Dogs are not nocturnal and don’t like people who swap schedules constantly! Lucky for us that cats exist and don’t mind swapping…

Awesome! I didn’t even know he was running it until it popped up in my Strava feed! I have two other MFP posters who haven’t been around for a while on my feed as running it - don’t remember either MFP handle but Danielle and Lori.

That really is gross. Since he’s your boss you can’t go to the boss and have them tell him to cut it out, which makes it especially bad. One thing to try in that situation is to enthusiastically agree with his advice. It seems like he has no shame but it does get through to some people. “Thank you so much, that’s really…

Speaking for myself the only thing that worked with coke was quitting cold turkey. Trying to cut back gradually was hopeless. Cutting it out, I had mad cravings for about two weeks, then it was better. I did several things to cut it out - including asking my husband to open cans in the other room because the sound was a…

@RunsOnEspresso So impressed with the virtual marathon!

If you’re not a consistent dog trainer I can’t recommend dobies. They are charming dogs but a little high strung and need calm, consistent handling and good training. Feeling better today! Whatever was wrong with my calf has fixed itself overnight, too.

@jenilla1 I hope your mom recovers. I got my booster for Pfizer on the first possible day (local center had closed due to lack of demand, just reopened for boosters). After a very bad 24 hrs I feel fine now. But the third shot did give me a worse reaction than either of the first two, chills, high heart rate, just…

Hooray for your half marathon @polskagirl01 ! That final hill with the 13% grade looks like a killer!

It’s hard not to lose it when life gets rough! My main tip for avoiding comfort eating during times of stress is to find other sources of comfort, and other ways to reduce stress. Super hard during lockdown with a divorce going on. Listen to your favorite music, find things you love to do (I took up bird watching in my…

Sudden pinchy pain sounds like a nerve. Something in your back might hit the rib and arm at the same time. Get it looked at just in case it’s something serious. If it’s not, my advice is like the joke about the guy who says “It hurts when I do this,” and the doctor says, “Stop doing that!” You don’t necessarily need to…
