I'm 52. The 50s are very much use it or lose it territory. It's normal to experience the double whammy of decreased muscle mass and increased fat. Choosing healthier foods and managing portion size helps. Becoming more active is just as important. Set a medium to long term goal for your walking and build up your activity…

It's a drag when outside events drain away your motivation. Congrats for making it happen despite the setback. I normally find that if I can get myself to do it there is no better cure for a bad day at work than getting on my bike for some me time.

No. Teach them: * How to prepare food from scratch * What foods are healthier and less healthy * the importance (and fun) of physical activity. Start early, keep it light and age appropriate. Expose them to lots of different foods. Get the whole family joining in on physical activity. You will set them up for life.

Time in the saddle is the best antidote for soft butt syndrome (ditto for soft palms). Start with something you know you can handle and ramp it up by 10% each week until you are hitting your targets.

Transition tips have been well covered by others. Even if you follow them all:* expect to fall at least once * assume it's not going to cause permanent damage to you or your bike * assume it will happen at a time or place that maximises your embarrassment On the benefits front, formal studies generally claim an efficiency…

Late joiner, I didn't see this at the start of the month when I was looking for something to inspire me. I try to hit the trails on my mountain bike most weekends. Some weekends I might do 3km, others it might be 20 and sometimes life just gets in the way of my ride. I'm ramping up my road miles to improve my overall…

First timer. July target - 400km cycling. It's probably 5 years since I've done this sort of distance in a month.

In. It's my first time. I don't know when the last time I did 24hrs exercise in a month was, but I'm trying to build up road miles on my bike to help prepare for longer MTB events so I'm hoping this will help keep me motivated.

I'm a newcomer and late to the party. I hope no one minds. I weigh myself daily and take measurements and progress photos once a month. My primary goal isn't weight loss but it's all data to me and cold hard numbers reduce the scope for self-deception. I find the best proxy for the changes I want to achieve is waist…

I aim for 100g of protein and 50% of calories from fat, after that I'm not too fussed where my calories come from. In practice, my carbs are in the 50-100g range most days. I've more or less eliminated refined sugars and cut back heavily on refined starches. Other carbs don't worry me too much.
