  • I've read over 50 books on dieting/nutrition, have watched all the food 'documentaries', watched hours and hours of youtube lectures and have read countless articles. My takeaway from all of that is that most of them are a bunch of whooey :p For weight loss the only thing that matters is that you're at the correct calorie…
  • It worked pretty great for me ;) eta: one post and then deleted account. Ok then lol.
  • This. Beans, lentils, whole grains, frozen veggies, in season fresh veg/fruit, frozen meat (bulk bags), eggs etc are inexpensive, nutrient dense foods. And many of them are fairly low calories as well.
  • I spend $100 a week/$400 a month, for 5 people, which breaks down to $80 per person, per month :)
  • I lost 50lbs and had re-buy EVERYTHING! Shoes, undergarments, clothes, outerwear (new coat etc). I'm very grateful for Goodwill or I'd have gone broke lol.
  • I always thought this was an odd thing to do-when I was overweight my wrists were bigger because of fat. Now that I weigh less, my wrists are much smaller. Does that mean my frame changed? Also a fun little side note-I went down an entire shoe size during my weight loss phase. Had to completely buy all new shoes lol.
  • Have no idea what ideal weight guidelines you're referring to, but my ideal weight is one that produces good health markers, and also one that I feel good with how I look. I'm in maintenance and I feel like I'm in my 'zone' right now at 123lbs. I'm 5ft, 6in, 38 yrs old female/mom of 3 kiddos. Last blood test put my total…
  • I use tap (well) water for my coffee and for baking/cooking/cleaning. I buy bottled spring water from Aldi to drink. I don't like the taste of our well water and while our new fridge has a filter system that gives nice tasting filtered water, there was an 'incident' with our old fridge years ago involving the water system…
  • page 2.... pp is most likely a low carber, which may be a factor here, (I could be wrong, but I did think it was interesting). http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10592316/which-has-worked-better-for-you-watching-calories-fat-or-keto#latest edited for further thoughts
  • Almost 39 years old here and I've never, ever, ever commented on someone's weight, or engaged in a discussion with someone about their weight, (excluding forums like this one). Seems like a bad idea no matter how I look at it :p
  • An observation- it seems that those who are disagreeing are low carbers. Perhaps that is influencing how the article is read?
  • Lost the extra weight with no exercise factored in. Maintaining now for over 4 years, with no exercise factored in. I do enjoy some summer walking, but nothing structured and it has a very minimal impact on my calories.
  • Except fat isn't satiating for everyone. I do much better on a high carb diet, because carbs are very satiating for me. Protein comes in at a distant second and fat does absolutely nothing for me. Macros have different satiety levels for different people.
  • I've only lost the extra weight one time, so I don't have anything to compare that experience-but I did an IF protocol, along with restricting my calorie intake, and that worked really well for me. It also made the transition from the weight loss phase to maintenance fairly easy, and I'm now a few years into successfully…
  • A food scale is cheap and is way more accurate.
  • I've owned two-both cheapy digital scales from the grocery store (under $15). They've both worked great, (I lost the first one when we moved, otherwise it was still working great after a lot of use)-not something you have to spend a lot of money on :)
  • I'm 4 years into maintenance and I didn't know about this either lol. Off to go weigh something :D
  • Eating vegetables is not a requirement for weight loss-no specific food/food group is. Back during my weight loss phase I didn't eat veggies, besides corn on the cob (and technically that's a grain). Now a few years into this process I've really expanded my food horizons and eat quite a few veg/fruit a day, but it's been…
  • Op, you may find this informative ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=8&v=s6MwGeOm8iI eta: the whole thing is awesome, but he talks specifically about herbalife starting at the 8:40 mark.
  • Are you still tracking here? If so how are you not seeing calories yet? Or are you tracking somewhere else? I'm currently tracking on paper for the way I eat (DASH), would love to track online though, but also don't want to see calories.
  • Now a few years into maintenance, and after experimenting with several different woe's, I recently tried the DASH protocol and absolutely love it :) It fits really well with my eating preferences and I like the way it's set up. I agree-it's a great guideline for a balanced diet! eta: here's more info on DASH if anyone is…
  • I was recently in a short cut, to get my maintenance range lower, so that's what you're remembering :) I adjust my maintenance range seasonally and get it to a lower point during the spring/summer, 120lbs-125lbs, to prepare for the fall/winter, when my schedule gets really chaotic and I don't focus as much on my weight.…
  • This hasn't been my experience at all. I lost 50lbs without exercise and hit a weight that I haven't been at since my teens, (I was in my early 30s during my weight loss phase). I've now been successfully maintaining for over 4 years, and I still don't intentionally exercise, besides a bit of summer walking. My current bmi…
  • I hit around 40-50g a day. Whole grains, beans and lots of veggies.
  • Nope, 'clean' food is a completely subjective and arbitrary term. In terms of weight loss it doesn't matter what kinds of food you eat-you just need to hit the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals, (you don't need to exercise either if you don't want to). Eat the foods that you enjoy, just in the correct…
  • Ha, yeah the messages we could share lol. But, I do the auto reject because my husband and I guard our marriage very carefully, and it's a long standing 'rule' for both of us to not have online 'friends' of the opposite sex, (exception being family/relatives). We know 4 people personally, who's affairs started via fb, so…
  • I automatically reject any requests from people who don't have profile pictures. I also reject all requests from guys.
  • People have died from it.
  • Members have the option to reject friends requests.
  • Digital scale. Also grains can be off quite a bit using a measuring cup, use a food scale for those as well.
