  • I don't have the recipe to hand just now, but have made some killer Quinoa Pancakes. Will plug in the recipe today or tomorrow and figure out protein content. But even the picky small person demolishes those (and I think I know what I'll be making for breakfast sometime this week...)
  • I love pretty much all veggies, but my go-to when I want something with a bit more punch is steamed broccoli with a tahini/lemon/garlic drizzle, maybe with toasted pine nuts on top. You don't need a lot of the drizzle or the pine nuts, and it's a very classy dish which takes very little time.
  • My weekends aren't crazy times, but that's largely because I work outside the home and have a small child (and beloved partner), so weekends are family time. We do a lot of walking as a family, much of our time together is about doing things rather than eating, so the way I'm making weekends work for me is that they're not…
  • One of my friends lost something like 10 lbs in a week. He was in a coma at the time, on an IV, but joked (eventually) about the fantastic weight loss plan. Stay hydrated, little and often. Hopefully you'll be better soon!
  • Thanks to this thread I've just registered to be a donor. It hadn't occurred to me that was something I could do. When I lived and worked in the US, my company held regular blood drives (the last one I couldn't give at because I was pregnant....) and my company in the UK doesn't. But I can on my own, and have just signed…
  • Totally in for 60 minutes, and going to try that darebee 5 minute variation at least once a week! 1 Oct: 3 min Total remaining: 57/60
  • Missed both my month goal and my mini goals, but the total for me was 47.5 minutes, which included 1.5 minute plank (PB) and I can fairly consistently do side plank (new skill!). I did start on a C25K programme in September, and between that and some habit changes (I don't have my phone - which is to say my stopwatch -…
  • Same here! And ZERO ability to play piano (I come from a heavily musical family, we tried. My brain can't do it.), so growing up being told that I'd be a tall (big hands and feet) pianist means that this 5'4"/163 cm girl got used to ignoring what others said at a pretty early age...
  • Originally: Ohio. Then: California. Now: Berkshire, England.
  • Me too! Yesterday was: Breakfast: avocado smoothie, brown bread with hummus on top, cuppa tea and an espresso Snack: lentil 'crisps', small serving of popcorn, light cream cheese with Ryvita Lunch: cheating because my partner and I met at a supermarket cafe: pre-made avocado, quinoa & feta salad Snack: homemade black bean…
  • When I started my first fitness journey, I was talking about it at home for a couple weeks, what methods sounded realistic and proven (MFP/NHS weight loss plan) and which sounded less scientifically sound, whether I actually WOULD lose any weight (I honestly didn't think I would. Ha!) and what it might entail. All of this…
  • Should be absolutely fine, but it depends on so many things (the type of container you're keeping it in, state of freshness before you started, how picky you are about leaves) that it's hard to say. If you are doing this, don't wash the heart beforehand. Bruising is what causes the leaves to wilt, so handle it as little as…
  • I now am trying to picture fields of pizza... right next to the spaghetti orchard... near where Peeps are bred... I actually cycle past a PYO farm on my way home. I'm not going to suggest they expand, though.
  • This is part of why I've never tried the skin. I am a total sucker for food that is its own container, and find scooping kiwi VERY satisfying. I have, however, been enjoying kiwi on a slice of toast with my cuppa in the morning (not today: today was all about the protein!) and next time I do that I will absolutely give the…
  • I just discovered this thread, and this isn't to do with eating out (I think the only option that works with me is to eat maybe a third of a dish and take the rest home, but I don't mind leftovers) but it is to do with convenient, healthy food: I'm loving Waitrose's veggie bags that you can steam in the microwave. Yes,…
  • Ditto on not cutting outright, but avocado, nuts and CHEESE are the ones I keep a close eye on (I'm not a huge carb eater in any case, lucky me!).
  • I absolutely eat peach skin. And I leave kiwi skin on when using them in smoothies, I peel it off when just eating them, but that might just be habit. I have some kiwi in the house now, I'll try not peeling the skin next time I have one and see!
  • This. Yes. And also, nice to meet another 'outside on the line' dryer. We get funny looks, but watch us care... What irks me is when someone steps right in front of me while walking then goes slow. Pavement/Sidewalk RAGE!!!
  • I can't speak for others, but for me it was because of an unrealistic viewpoint. When I lost three years ago, I thought 'Sweet, I don't have to log any more, as long as I stay super active I can eat like everyone else does' etc etc. Three years later and I had to restart. While I had learned good lessons during my first…
  • I second the water, and if it's at night, I suggest hot water (nothing in). I know, it sounds crazy, it did to me when one of my friends met me for a coffee and she only had hot water in her mug (she had the cake, I had the latte...) but then I gave it a try. I find the hot water very comforting and satisfying, perfect for…
  • Cuppa tea, apple & date (& protein powder) smoothie, kiwi sliced onto sourdough toast and lots of water.
  • My mother is by and large a rubbish cook, but she does make a mean pumpkin (punkin is how most everyone back home says it...) pie. Watching her push cooked pumpkin (not the stuff from a can, usually one of our jack-o-lanterns before they started going gross) through old, clean nylons is one of my favourite childhood…
  • Whoops, forgot to log (not to do) 1 September - 3 min (3 X 1 min full) 2 September - 2 min (2 X 1 min full) 3 September - 3 min (1 X 1 min full, 4 X 30 sec side) 8 September - 1 min (1 X 1 min full) 9 September - 1 min (1 X 1 min full) 10 September - 2 min (2 X 1 min full) 11 September - 4 min (3 X 1 min full, 2 X 30 sec…
  • Along the same lines as @vikinglander : If you want the progress you had doing what you did during the summer, then by all means keep going. If you want the progress you had this spring, do what you were doing this spring. Full disclosure: I'm back on MFP after a 3-year hiatus. I'd reached my GW, lost almost 25 kilos over…
  • That is precisely where I am (happily! Good to know I'm on the right track) but the pushups are a massive challenge for me. I'm actually doing the September 60-minute Plank challenge (on target to get my 60 mins in for the month!) and I'm hoping that I'll be able to incorporate what I'm doing with plank into a pushup. I'm…
  • I fully agree on the mackerel, very versatile though it is pretty strongly flavoured. I also really like haddock, tilapia, trout, sea bass... Those are if you're using fish as a main point of the meal. We always have anchovies and sardines on hand to mix into pasta sauces and soups, or to mix with cooked vegetables, for a…
  • This here is why I know I need to start getting more weight work in. I'm sticking with bodyweight for the moment, but I know I've got a weak back, weak arms, weak hands, and I know I need to fix that.
  • My son is autistic and therefore would never really follow the leader, but to get him accustomed to the idea of physical exercise I did find things like 'flying squats' (hold him securely by the waist in a standard squat, then when I stand up, launch him into the air. Not so much of that these days, but then he's 7 and…
  • Not at all, but well handled. If you travel again, have before and after (and in the middle) photos ready. (I don't mean that entirely seriously, but when we got our 7 year old's passport renewed we had to provide an annual photo of him over the course of the 5 years since his original photo was taken.) Glad to hear you…
  • This was largely how I navigated my French holiday this summer. I generally split a main with our son anyway (neither of us being huge eaters) and a dessert 3 ways means about 2 bites each. Even works with cheese. And while I know it's not restaurant's responsibility to offer low-calorie dishes on their menu, it does drive…
