Which ride is this? I'm only in Berkshire and need a ride to work up to. I've done one through the Surrey hills (Palace to Palace, 45 miles) so I'll need to build to this, but sounds wonderful! And very good point re: context. A good reminder.

This. It's hard to admit, but yeah. At least it's helped show me one kind of parent I don't want to be.

Apple peanut butter protein smoothie, some cheese and tea. Very nice after a quick run (and before the walkies to work)...

So please bear in mind that I'm not an expert, just another working mum, but here are my observations: - a quick online comparison of instant grits with oatmeal told me that per 100 g you've got almost 350 kcal in the grits versus about 70 kcal in the oatmeal. So right there you're taking in more energy and probably not…

But you have a stunning profile pic, for what it's worth.

I totally agree about this thread being great! I just calculated what my maintenance would be (5'4", 65 kg but GW is 55 kg, 39 years old) and when I saw 1630 to maintain this weight I was very surprised. It's good to be aware that the 2000 daily limit is not what I'll be switching to when all's said and done... And…

One thing that may help is if you start swapping out some of what you already eat with other foods. So if you buy ready made meals, also buy some veggies (fresh, frozen or tinned, but if you go with tinned make sure they're not in sugared or salted water). When you make dinner, have half the ready meal (put the other half…

I did Day 2 of Week 1 of C25K. While this in and of itself isn't a huge NSV, for me it's a pretty solid step. I love starting things, but keeping them going? Getting out of the house instead of going back to bed? Did and done. Belief that I can keep this going? Yeah, that's starting to get there...

I'm halfway through recovering from the same thing. And I'm taking notes: notes of how I succeeded last time; notes of how I let that success slip away over the course of 3 years; notes of what I love about the journey this time, how I can make that part of my life journey; notes on what I don't love, and finding…

Ooh, that sounds very good. And yes! to anchovies. We always have a tin in the cupboard, just in case... I'm in the 'I'll eat almost anything' camp, (though sometimes stray too close to the 'I'll eat almost all the things' portion-control problem camp). The closest I've come to ruling out 'healthy' foods is readjusting how…

This 100% for me. I knew that if I didn't tell anyone I was consciously working on my weight, temptation would be harder to resist. But just knowing that my colleagues can see what I'm eating, that I will have to look at all the food I'm putting in my face through MFP is a pretty good reason for me to think twice. There's…

Representing in Berkshire! Wokingham, market town with too much traffic and no cycle lanes!

I currently have (because I have space for) an aspirational wardrobe. Almost all but my intimates shopping is secondhand, so when I see something in my size all the way down to the size I'm aiming for I'll pick it up. I rarely spend more than about £6 on something, so it's not a huge amount of financial investment, and we…

Doesn't matter. Calories believe in you, and that's all that counts.

Definitely what @Kathryn247 said about NF (and focusing on diet rather than exercise), and the running ap is Zombies, Run! which I have yet to try but sounds really fun. https://zombiesrungame.com/ For me, figuring out how to get the best bang for my caloric buck ticks a lot of boxes in my geek brain. Also, depending on…

Probably not entirely what you're referring to, but no, not everyone does. My small child is developmentally delayed and on the Autism Spectrum, and he will not necessarily eat when he should be hungry (it's been a couple hours and some hard play since his last meal). He has always been like this. Always. When we were in…

This is not easy. For so many reasons, you're in a tough corner, and for what it's worth, you seem to be taking positive steps. They are steps, you are on a journey, neither of those is necessarily easy, but you're doing it. That's huge. Just to give you perspective, you've spent about 1/5 of your life in a bad…

I have no idea how much weight I lost doing Zumba, but I know how much better my workout clothes looked (loads) and how much more I was able to do in the course of a class (also loads). You'll hear this a lot on MFP, but exercise isn't the key to weight dropping, calorie deficit is. Exercise is key to overall health (not…

Very nearly caused a spit-take with my (black, fresh-made) espresso. Thank you for making my Wednesday better!

I have absolutely found success with these http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/Pages/Tenminuteworkouts.aspx which I hope you can access even if you're not in the UK. They are in 10-minute chunks, with a 5 minute warm up and cool down (or you can just warm up and cool down). They're all bodyweight except for the toning…

After a couple 15-sec trials - which didn't work - before my palms were (mostly) healed, I'm back! 1 September - 3 min (3 X 1 min full) 2 September - 2 min (2 X 1 min full) 3 September - 3 min (1 X 1 min full, 4 X 30 sec side) 8 September - 1 min (1 X 1 min full) 9 September - 1 min (1 X 1 min full) 10 September - 2 min (2…

Okay, for actually, the number of people I see wearing clothes from American universities and cities by people who have never been there is pretty amazing. And I am in a not remotely touristy bit of the country. But whatever you wear will be wet, pretty much the whole time because it doesn't stop raining here (depending on…

More or Less (from the BBC) may also be good for you, as well as Planet Money.

It's a quickie, but Missing Richard Simmons is very nice while exercising. I'm not as into true crime stuff, but I love informational ones, from BBC's The Why Factor (about 15 - 20 minutes each) to Radiolab (up to an hour each). Slightly more story-based (but still informational) ones, like 99% Invisible, This American…

I am grateful for my choices: the freedom I've had throughout my life to make them and the luck (by and large) I've had with them.

Thank you, absolutely doing so. I don't have too much of a choice: my body says 'not yet', I listen. Looking forward to getting back into it when I can!

I use Abel and Cole fruit and veg delivery for much of my fresh stuff (except right now, when I use the PYO 1/4 mile from my house!). Not necessarily keto, but loads of interesting veg options (and other groceries as well, lots of fish and meat, etc).
