Don't blame your mum, unless you have specifically told her you are trying to lose weight. Even then, if she bought it after being asked not to, you are within your rights to refuse it. It was your choice, but 3000 cal on one day is not a big deal, just eat a bit less tomorrow and the next day.

FWIW, MFP gives me 1300 if I set a 1lb a week goal, at 177lb.

I just got home from a week house sitting and my housemate said "have you lost weight while you were away?" - I have, but only 1lb! And he is a guy, wouldn't have expect him to notice for weeks yet!

I'm 31 and pretty much dead on 5ft short. I just started on 177 lb. First goal is 140 which sounds quite daunting! But if it takes me a year, so be it. Better than not doing it! Edit: I don't want to stop at 140, but it would put me in a stone bracket I haven't seen for a VERY long time!
