Like many people, I emphasize the veggies, raw and plentiful- and that's my biggest tip. Many many veggies keep me going. I always either measure quantity or use the scale for things I know are "heavy" calories, or things that are treats- this is where I can really lose track and a measuring cup or the scale is my best…

In truth, I've found that the last 5 lbs are very difficult to lose and that recalibrating is a challenge. Part of that is the lighter weight sustains fewer calories, so the difference between loss and maintenance is slight. I keep logging, watching, weighing and working out and try not to be too obsessive as I figure out…

You are gorgeous, articulate and motivated- and no surprise that after years of self-doubt you're adjusting to a new image and mindset. Be proud and strong, as you already are, and thank you for sharing your story- you are AMAZING!!!

It happens! It's totally frustrating, but your body will correct over the long haul. Stay with what's been working and don't worry about a week fluctuation, it can be water weight or it can also be hormonal...

CICO; calories in, calories out. Yes, theoretically you could eat a deficit in any food including GS cookies (I'd do thin mints myself), but you'd probably up your blood sugar and go into some sort of organ failure or such. :-)

I'm approaching 61. Lessons from my 50's: just past my 50th birthday I lost 50 lbs. In the 10 years since, I've realized that any extreme diet or extreme exercise is really hard to sustain, so I've learned to be a little gentler with myself. I'm in "healthy BMI" range, have a tendency to "float up and down" about 15 lbs,…

You look so sad in the first pictures and radiant in the latest ones. It's so tough to change our habits- congratulations on your continued success in changing your life- and your new baby!!!

You are remarkable!!!!

It's not just your weight loss, it's your life transformation that is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story!

Don't think about what discourages you, what you didn't do, where you are that you don't like. DO think about just taking it a day at a time, a meal at a time or a minute at a time. When you get discouraged, find something other than food to make you smile. When a craving hits, drink a glass of water. Start to think about…

I love my wine; I'm now limiting it to weekends and actually weigh it so that I don't have more than a true 5 oz glass. I'll allow myself a second if the calories are in check- and I've eaten healthy foods. If I've eaten "junk", no wine- its a tradeoff. I'm in charge.

I committed to "no unnecessary calories" for the month of January; When there's a temptation in front of me I stop and think about whether I REALLY need it or not. It's working and now I've made it 17 days, I'm more than halfway in and committed to see it through. Feb 1 I'll renew my commitment. And so on. One month at a…

I just started 1/2/18- would be happy to have you as a friend! I'm working to lose 20-25 lbs this year, hopefully by summer!

Congratulations for getting here and getting started, for posting a photo and looking for info! That IS the work, and if you keep at it, you will change your life- and that's what this is, life changing. Find friends who can help and keep asking questions!! Good luck- I look forward to seeing your success!!!!

I'm short and am just starting up as well- headed to losing 20-25 lbs; feel free to add me too

as above- test the scale with a "given" weighted object, then use in the same spot at the same time with the same clothing (or none)- even moving it will change the calibration slightly.

:) Barb and everyone regarding "spam"- thanks for the feedback, since I'm new I wasn't sure whether this was a regular problem; if it happens again I'll do the same thing- and yes, it was a "racy" video and no, I didn't peek! Afraid that my computer might blow up:-) :'( Cheri- so sad for your puppy! it's very hard to lose…

SPAM.... I received an email in my "My Fitness Pal" email with a link to a "sex video". I've blocked the sender, NOT clicked on the link (of course) and reported it immediately. Has anyone else had this issue and is it common/something I should worry about?

This page goes very quickly! You ladies have clearly been friends for a very long time! Love that you share ideas beyond the weight loss "world" :-) We have a prediction of "freezing rain" tonight to go on top of our 18" of snow; I envy my best friend in Tucson who is basking in the 70's, and I'm beginning to think that…

Temp 5, "realfeel": -16; 18" snow on the ground. It's January. Only 2 more months of this to go... I'm trying to keep up on this page, it goes fast.... Oh, yeah, I managed to keep to my goals today, mostly :-)

Peach1948: I'm a 60 year old mother of 3, grandmother of 5+ (significant other has 2 as well); I live in coastal NJ about 40 mins south of NYC (VERY cold this week, and waiting for "Snowmageddon"); love outdoors stuff winter and summer, have a small interior design business and teach yoga part-time. Why I'm here: I've…

The cold persists, and tomorrow a prediction for significant snow! It'll wreak havoc on my first week back to work, but maybe we'll get out with the snowshoes; there's a very pretty park nearby that has hills viewing the ocean, pretty nice year round for hiking but with the snow it's particularly pretty... This whole…
