What all of the above have said. You can't change yesterday but you can make a new tomorrow. Don't punish yourself. Just - begin...

OP - how is your life better if you just quit? Is that what you want? I think you need to step back and see the bigger picture. Be a bit kinder to yourself. Weight loss/management is a bit like a puzzle that we all have to figure out. Yes, losing weight is as simple as maintaining a calorie deficit - but as you are…

8th grade... Bless your heart. I taught 8th grade science for 10 years. Middle schoolers are special - you either love them or run away screaming. I loved them. Every day is an adventure for sure.

Listen to @kimny72 and @snickerscharlie I understand the mental effort it takes to change your habits; congratulations for making the hardest step. Now you need to realize that it takes both time and patience to see results. You need to settle into some changes that are sustainable over a long period of time. As others…

@clicketykeys Everyone is different but I found that exercise actually helped with the exhaustion. I know it doesn’t make sense except I bet you are more mentally tired than physically tired - at least that’s my experience. It took a bit to adjust to exercising more but after a couple of weeks I found exercising after…

Pretty much this. Life is a dance. Some days I eat a bit too much. Tomorrow I'll eat a bit less. Today I rode 75 miles - I'll have the beer and tacos. Tomorrow I may binge watch GOT - I'll need to eat less. I don't "cheat" - neither do I stress anymore - just adapt. Make small adjustments and manage your weight - from now…

New to the challenge group. I rode 75 miles on Saturday (4th) I have about 100 miles so far this month.

Cereal and milk. Scrambled eggs and toast. A sammich.

My public comment is, "Good for you. I'm glad you've found a way of eating that let's you be successful." In my mind I'm thinking, "AAARRRRgggggg. ErMaGerd - how boring...." But I would never say that out loud. :) Edit: I actually eat almost the same lunch every day - so I do understand.

And then there's this ^^^^ Good advice as well.

So think about this y'all - when you're worried about that one student or frustrated - you can go exercise or go eat the bag of Oreos. Which one is better? I know. I've done it too. If you find make the time to exercise your mental health will improve and I bet your eating habits will also. Find the time. I know about the…

Slow down. No - I mean S-L-O-W D-O-W-N. Enjoy the sun. Enjoy the sound of the birds and wind and that fact that you CAN run. Did I say slow down? It's counter intuitive, but going slowly will let you become faster. Just log the miles. Walk if you need to. Yes, runners sometimes walk when we're tired (Shhh. don't tell. it's…

I can manage to get in an early workout a couple of times a week. Any more than that and I get grumpy - I don't like the early workouts. That said, it's worth it a couple of times a week so that life doesn't get in the way later in the day. How do I manage? Well, just CHOOSE to get up. Getting up and dressed is the hard…

@NorthCascades makes a good point to look at endurance or gravel bikes. I have been a roadie for years and just this past December bought a gravel bike. It has similar geometry to a road bike with drop bars. It is a bit more relaxed so less "twitchy" and VERY comfortable. I support the idea of going back to a bike shop…

I think cycling bibs are the way to go. I rarely wear shorts anymore.

I eat it regularly but just when it sounds good. I just think of it as an alternative to different kinds of rice or polenta.

You can do it. As everyone says it takes a bit of adjustment. Don't let a brief nervous experience deter you.

This has been discussed in other threads, but it's interesting how exercise affects hunger. Exercise actually suppresses my hunger so when I'm NOT exercising I'm tempted to eat more.

I don't have the mountain views, but our wildflowers have been nice this spring. This is just yesterday. This is a few weeks ago.

This is a bit trickier than it looks at first glance. A number of years ago I was cycling and running a lot and could eat whatever I wanted - and did. I lost weight and became quite fit. I didn't eat trash, I just ate as much as I wanted - that's what I would say was "outrunning the fork". But then I stopped exercising and…

High school - physics, computer science, research and design. I lost 80 pounds and have been in maintenance since November. I know the struggle with stress eating.

And here's the danger... One day you say*kitten* it and have a cold one by the pool. You watch the scale with some anxiety and to your surprise your weight stays the same. In a couple of weeks you try it again - and the scale stays the same. THEN you start to believe it's ok to skip the exercise and lay by the pool. You…

Weight management is a mind game. I've lost then gained back weight in the past. Life happens - you're stressed and you gain a few pounds. You tell yourself that once life settles down you'll lose the weight - but you don't. You have the 100 reasons you don't have time to exercise. You have the 10 reasons you "don't care".…

You might look at some weight trending apps. I use Happy Scale. I weigh every day and enter my weight. The app shows the trend over time. It has really relieved some of the anxiety I had about daily fluctuations.

I don't know what I was thinking opening this thread mid afternoon when I have the munchies...

After reading the OP I see this as a realistic approach to both weight loss and maintenance. It helps us see that weight management is about consistency over time. When we are consistently in a calorie deficit we lose weight and when we are consistently in a surplus we gain. I sometimes "bank" and/or "borrow" calories in…

I was never a smoker but I dipped Copenhagen for 20 years. I agree that it's very mental. I used to complain about how hard it was to quit and always claimed I wanted to quit and/or was trying to quit. I can tell you the day that I stopped... My mother was sick with cancer. I was visiting her in the hospital. It was one of…
