echo the advice given - I've been really lucky in that i haven't had any real pain or injuries to deal with but I always perform a dynamic stretching warm up routine, walk as a cooldown and then do some static calf, hamstring and quad stretches

First thing - have you been fitted for shoes by a good running shop?
-
I'd read that can happen, I dunno what to do for the best - keep at the weights and cardio I guess

I'm a carer too and understand that it's wearing and sometimes at the end of the day you are just done! I think the secret to exercise & keeping motivated is to start with an activity that you enjoy doing, for me it was cycling, I got back on my bike last summer and built up from 5 miles to 50, my weight started dropping…

I feel your frustration !! Some advise taking zinc to help boost testosterone levels although it can also have the opposite effect. Weight training should firm up whats behind them so when you lose the fat deposits your musclature will be more defined, I'm only 2 months in to a weights programme and haven't had much change…

Welcome ! & congrats on getting your first 5k in! - This is a very quiet group, think everyone is out running! Good luck with your 10k target, i found it a challenge but managed it and i'm taking part in my first organised 10k in September. Good luck !

I got matched with Sir Chris Hoy - saaaweeeeeeet !!! I'll take that comparison all day !

It really depends on how active you are out in the field - the closest you will get to accuracy is by wearing a HRM while you play. When I started playing an hour of 7s last year MFP estimated about 800 cals burned but when I wore my HRM I got 1000+ burned. I'm a lot fitter & lighter now so the amount burned will be…

If you have a recent smartphone you could use the camera on that and get as creative as you can!

Good plan I think, if you come to rely on it and use it to drive your fitness forward then you know it will be worth upgrading. If not then you haven't wasted a ton of cash !

Depends on your budget - you can get one for <£20 from Lloyds that works quite well, Polar do some under the £40 mark that will do the basic functions well & the prices can go all the way up to £500 for gps, cadence, power meter, stride all singing & dancing uber HRM for Tri-athletes Oh aye, meant to say - exercise…

When I'm not working or working out I like to to entertain myself with a bit of xbox gaming, reading and trying to be artistic with a camera

Would be a wee boost for the economy if there was a Gretna revival but I agree it's a damn shame that couples have to travel to find a place to commit to one another legally.

Runner, cyclist, gym body - use endomondo to track it all but haven't used the social aspect yet - please feel free to add. http://www.endomondo.com/profile/4222655

I have given up giving up on myself...I have also given up punishing myself for making mistakes or slipping

On an all-inclusive holiday in Spain, it was the last day and I had made good use of the free bar and buffet all week. Waiting for the bus back to the airport and I had a seat in one of those plastic lawn chairs, both back legs bent out behind, the motion flipped me backward off the chair and then the chair shoots out from…

The only one that tracks underwater is the Polar RCX5 - a little on the pricey side but it looks to be an awesome bit of kit

I like to swear a little bit, then move the scale about the bathroom to find the new "sweet spot" - when that invariably fails I have a quick look at my macros in the diary and see if it was a high salt day the day before. Most of the fluctuations in the scales you will see is water weight

Thnx for the suggestion - unfortunately i started wearing compression tops a few weeks ago and while the pain is slightly less frequent when wearing one it still happens - can wearing one cause these symptoms?
-
Fantastic ! Well done on taking the most difficult step, getting started! Everything will feel like it's impossible at the start but as your fitness grows so will your confidence and before you know it you will be posting your graduation message :) A good warmup & cooldown with some stretching will help with the soreness &…

Well done in getting this far - hope the race goes well!

How are you finding it so far, easy peasy? Hell on two legs? if it's easy peasy the jump on a week and see how that goes, if it's the other then running the 5k in 6 weeks may be too much - but you can always mix walking and running on the big day.
-
6.2 miles - I'd call that a 10k !! W00t!! Congrats !!!!
-
If you didn't struggle on your last run of week 3 then move on to week 4 & see how you feel, if you start to struggle then slow the pace down a touch and repeat the day if you want to.
-
Do you use endomondo or runkeeper to track the distance you are doing? I would guess that a full 60 minute run would take you to 10k distance or near as dammit ! Keep it going, you are doing really well

While I'm not in the same big-loser league as fauxliage, jhardenbergh or BigMech - I have enjoyed losing some pounds and have included running in my exercise regime, I am currently around the 215 mark and just graduated to 10k distance. The biggest benefit I have found hasn't been the weight loss, as the running is only…

See if you can get a test ride on the trek & the boardman, find out which feels better for you. Also see if you can sneak a ride on the carrera tdf to find out how you get on with the dropped bars. Online retailers like wiggle offer 30 day test rides on bikes purchased through them & they have some great deals going on…
