I'm on those last few pounds before trying maintenance and I looked carefully at a "goal weight" at my age and height to maintain at the top of healthy with the exercise (at my age and height) I would be looking at 1350 cal per day. Following the mantra of "is this a sustainable lifestyle" I saw that it is not, so I have…

Today I am wearing my "test shorts" that I couldn't even try to close in April. This is the first non stretchy clothing I have worn in years and they are comfortable.

I have an old school scale with a dial--it's a good scale and I like the dial. I set my mini goals by putting a piece of tape (shiny red tape) down three pounds when I hit the tape for three days. I also journal a monthly review and set small reasonable fitness and food goals for the next month. I had 40 pounds to lose and…

I LOVE wine--in the summer when its hot it isn't a problem but when it gets cold and dark I tend to overdo a nice red. My solution tends to be at both ends of the wine spectrum. I buy mini bottles for I would like wine with this dinner evenings...so I do limit the amount and can log. For special I buy very good (expensive)…

I looked at the title and my mind went in a whole different direction..... That being said if you like them and you feel they are a good morning meal then that is fine. Of course this is from someone who loves Atkins shakes---actually drink them when not losing weight, just like them.

I do a combo--I bought a scale for baking so had one on hand. In the beginning I weighed to get an idea on portion size, as I went on I weighed less (just a spot check once in awhile) as long as I was losing. If I stop losing I'll tighten up. I'm short and old (69) so any calorie creeps will make a big difference. I want…

This is a couples NSV. We snowbird in the winter and walk several miles daily, bike and are active, then we come home and stop. Last spring DH was told his bloodwork was terrible even though he was "healthy" weight. Since the snow went away we have walked 2-5 miles most days. Last week his Dr suggested more meds--DH…

I had a little handheld one but gave it away--it just didn't fit many of the homegrown zucchini and I wanted to do squash and maybe beets. In general are the noodles in the grocery store just as good?

I find that around 1200 is ok for me--which is a good thing because at a goal weight of the very tippy top of healthy BMI my TDEE is 1370---so I'd better be ok with eating less. (yes --short and old)

OK that makes sense, I had visions of a yolk river
-
So what do you suppose happens to all of the yolks discarded to make egg whites in cartons? I never thought about all that waste before.

I appreciate your post because I am also trying my first "diet break" starting today. I've been at 1200 cals for 115 days but my maitenance at maybe ultimate goal (just under healthy) is only 1350 so I'm ready to tiptoe into a bit higher for a week. I am worried.

I have a stone jar for my weight loss. One was filled with the number of stones to goal--then ultimate (maybe) goal. The obese stones were red, the current stones are blue and the goal to ultimate are green. I LOVED getting rid of the red stones!!!

Just got back from about a week in NYC--and it was restaurant week in the city!!! Lots of walking, lots of good good food!! With fear and trembling I approached the scale--and was down 1 pound!!! (and the wallet was quite a bit lighter too)

My strategy for winter is to go to Florida for January and Feb as long as the checkbook and health allows.
-
We snowbird and take back roads down to Florida--I'm fine until North Carolina---then I brake and make a u-turn for the smell of hickory and a pink pig. I search out "hundred mile" barbeque! My biggest downfall is the hotel breakfasts--I tend to stash muffins for the road.

No it's from the houseboat we rented in Paris. At my age--after several overuse injuries in my mid 60s I do exercise and play with "Barbie weights" but have learned to be cautious. Right now the estimate is pretty close to reality.
-
Doesn't the actual goal make a difference? I see all the time the statement about "as you get close to goal" or "when you are 5-10 lbs away from goal" To me it makes a difference if your goal is the lowest BMI, or mid BMI-to just get to the top of healthy BMI--or you lose 100 lbs and that puts you near the bottom of…

Stop saying I have 7kg more to lose, there is no reason to tell anyone, then they won't even have a discussion to start.

Yes if you are committed to growing some of your own food and/or preparing your own food sourced locally and eating seasonally. You already compromise with grab and go for the sake of convenience. I'm not judging, but to say you want to escape the microwave but not cooking at home is odd to me. There are so many options…

You can start with logging what you eat--then setting calorie goals. As a long time tai chi and qigong student I would encourage you to keep on with the qigong. It helps to heal your mind and body, if nothing else it feels good to do it.
-
I am doing the same thing--when people ask if I've lost weight I just say that I'm more active in the summer. That's not technically a lie.
-
$7-$10 a day is $49-$70 a week, that should be easy to manage for one person.

This also answered my question about why are the laces so long. When I bought my shoes they said they would lace them for me and I said--no, thinking they are laced already and I can lace a shoe--after all I'm 68 and a grown up. Shows how much I know!
-
Thank you---I do have heel issues and never knew what that top extra hole was for--just used this ti and my shoes fit much better now.

Since you were just picked for the photo shoot you must look great to the people doing the shoot. Remember its a photo shoot--not a competition--they will pick lighting, angles and poses that make the best photos. So do what you can in a healthy manner and have fun with it. (and if they want improvements there's always the…

I don't like the taste of Slimfast but I do like Atkins shakes when I am traveling for a week on the road. For me it beats a fast food drive through option when making time. It doesn't have to be just for diet---it could be just like smoothies or protein drinks that other people toss into their menus. It probably won't be…

It is really hot today and I planned to just do a DVD inside. First my TV would not change the input---then my laptop would not open the DVD drawer. I was SO FRUSTRATED with our very very old tech, but I did a weight routine that I had used years ago anyway. (I know I could have gone to youtube--but by that time all…

With that work schedule and caring for a child and going to school you have a very busy life. Will the work slow down in the future? If so I would just go home-do some at home exercise, youtube for weights or other exercises and keep a little yoga for your head and on weekends play outside with your kid. I feel tired just…
