Thank you so much for all the nice comments. For those who have asked, it has taken a lot of discipline and effort both in the kitchen and down the gym; with great support from my wife, family, friends and MFP community.

BMI says I should be no more than 194.7lbs, calculating my lean body mass by measurements says I have a lean body mass of 196lb. BMI is a calculation to fit Mr/Mrs average, I am not Mr average.

When I hit my final target weight I will start keeping to a weekly calorie goal rather than a daily one. I think it is going to be harder sticking to moderation rather than tight control, but then I do not like any alternative.

Your protein, fiber and fruit/veg are all too low. You should be able to lose weight whilst eating more calories than you currently are on, so don't worry if you have to eat a bit more to get your vital nutrition. Can you take a lunch hour? If so try spending half of it walking. Perhaps bring in a packed lunch so you know…

They are not big contributors, but broccoli, spinach and mushrooms are great choices for veg. As I am eating the veg for other nutrition I look at the protein as bonus. 100g gives Broccoli 3g for 34 cals Spinach 3g for 23 cals Mushrooms 3g for 22 cals

I am 34, when I was 18 I was doing circuit training twice a week, gym and numerous sports. I played rugby touring Australia (from UK) and played American Football in Great Britain at University level.

Although I do not do it myself I see no problem in people working out their weekly calorie allowance, divide by 8, set that as your daily calorie allowance 6 days a week and have double on the 7th day.

I found that not snacking is the best way to stop snacking. The overeating sounds like I habit, if you can be strong minded and go cold turkey you should find that you are out of the habit in a week or two, then it requires you to remind yourself that you do not want to get back into your bad habits.

Porridge omelet. 30g of porridge oats toasted in a pan then mixed with 60ml almond milk, 3 egg whites and a slice of ham (chopped). All in its under 200 calories. If you want a bit more calories for breakfast serve it with some low fat cottage cheese.

Over eating or under eating for one day will make little difference unless it starts to change you general habits.

A journalist did a programme about this a year or so ago in the UK. He had a full medical before he started, only ate junk food but stayed within his limits, then had a medical at the end of the period (I think it was one month) Apart from all the negative effects this had on his moods and emotion etc he lost weight but…

The phrase "it is not worth the calories" has taken on a totally new meaning to me since I started to eat healthy. Eating junk food, even if it is only 100 calories, decreases my mood as I feel that I have wasted calories rather than increasing my mood from getting pleasure from the junk.

Water weight most probably, some of it could be down to underestimating calories burnt and overestimating calories eaten. Most people lose very quickly to start with, I lost 13lb in the first week and 11lb in the second, but now it has settled down. Well done on your weight loss.

I have looked at the calculations on http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/ My problem with this calculation is it takes no account of leg size. My bottom half has always been stronger than my top half so I think that the calculations based on neck, waist and hips will be a bit out for me.

Most Indian food can be low calorie, just cook it yourself, go light on the oil and not too much rice or bread with it.
