  • That's a great plan. Not sure if you had a nosy round his site (strengthunbound) but that's basically what he advises. Gradually increase to maintenance, gradually increase surplus, see what works for you. 400 surplus seems to be the sweet spot he's found for himself. He advises 300 to 400 for women but I've found 250…
  • No, of course I don't think a 20 yr old and 50 yr old would have the same results. I also don't think a female can get as good a result as a guy. The point I was making, is that you're the SAME age as the guy giving the advice. While you're worrying about test levels, have a care for us little ladies with a fraction of…
  • Well done on the PR! - this is the best bit about bulking IMO :)
  • I'm with you on this one. Not to downplay other peoples struggle, but I sometimes wish I felt like this. Apart from the odd day, during a 3 month bulk, I had zero issues with the amount of food (but then, I'm a girl who does no cardio so my surplus was only 250, nothing like the calories some of the folks need to hit).…
  • I really think you are letting your age limit you. If MFPs profiles are to be believed, you are the same age as the guy who wrote the info contained in the stickie. I'm 40 this year and I can run rings round people (guys and girls) half my age, at work. Positive thinking goes a long way. In saying that, no one is forcing…
  • I'm going off the gain 50:50 muscle to fat thing. My assumption is, you'd need damn great genetics (or a lot of discipline) to gain mostly muscle. I'm also assuming that if you want the optimum muscle growth you can accept the fat gain and deal with it later. On a first bulk, me personally, I'd accept the extra fat because…
  • Have a look at the website the stickie comes from. Waldo is a member on here and although not over 50 (I don't think anyway), he's not a teenager or young guy in his twenties. The only real way you'd know is to try it, you might surprise yourself :) edit: okay, just creeped his profile and it says 51. Go figure - bulking…
  • Eat a 500 calorie surplus everyday this month, that should get you there.

  • Are you feeling the DOMS in a different place than usual? Could be a good thing, you could've nailed the form and be hitting muscles you usually don't. I got that last year, after visiting a coach - widened my stance and, my god did my hamstrings feel it! And hey, you got 1 rep at a weight you failed before - that's…
  • I'd advise a 0.5 gain for females not a guy. You can build approx double the muscle I can if your intake is optimal - which I'd say, although I am far from an expert, was a 500 surplus for a 1lb a week gain. Regardless if your going for 0.5 or 1 lb, your not going to get it if you don't hit your goals - eat up man!
  • How long have you been at it? Your maintenance could be catching up with you - if you stay the same after another week or two, I'd up cals again. Just remember, it's the same as losing, you get fluctuations. Edit: sorry just read your post properly :$ what ndj said. A week isn't long enough to recomp, you're just wasting…
  • This. After a couple of months of logging those gains, you'll know when you step on the scale they are not 'real' and they won't piss you off anymore. Also, that when I'm lightest :/ so I definitely weigh in.
  • It'd be more effective/optimal to wait till you're leaner but it can be done. Both my bulks, I've been well over what is considered optimal, bf% wise, but I've been delighted with my results. It's more a personal thing, if you can stand the unavoidable fat gain that comes with bulking then go for it. Your initial gain will…
  • Cauliflower 'rice' is okayish if you're really desperate to save calories. I wouldn't even try the pizza crust thingy, that's just sad IMO
  • Didn't read the article but it's been on the news today - she bought them online and the active ingredient was some chemical (don't recall the name) used as an explosive during WW1. 21 yrs old, horrible story. I don't know the situation in the US is but it's scary what kids can order online here (I say kids as the adverts…
  • Decathlon have a lot of stuff that's very reasonable. I got a wee rack that has a 250kg limit for £140, they had others with the pulley system but I'm not sure of the price. However, if I had my time again, I'd make my own (or commission my dad anyway). There are loads of plans online for DIY powercages - much cheaper and…
  • I didn't agree with the veggie guy but I have to say I don't agree with you either. There's plenty of people who do well without meat, for me personally it would just be too difficult, but there are definitely vegans and vegetarians out there who are bigger and stronger than me (and, I'm guessing, you too). OP asked about…
  • Don't worry about getting a 'super muscular appearance' - unfortunately, it's not that easy to achieve and certainly won't happen accidentally. Squats would be a great place to start and will work your legs and abs if you use progressively heavier weight. If you have access to a gym, you could try goblet squats with a…
  • Honestly, it's the easiest thing in the world to cook. My mum grills but I just do mine in a griddle pan - rub with olive oil, salt, pepper, let it look at the pan on both sides XD gorgeous! I usually have fillet (which I think is tenderloin in the US) but rump and ribeye are nice too.
  • Work out your TDEE and start there. If you don't maintain, adjust till you do. Then start increasing cals, gradually, till you get the weight gain you're after, using foods you enjoy and can tolerate.
  • How high is your intake? (Your diary's private). I've customised my fat to 35% and use it as a MINIMUM if that's any help. Edit: percentage isn't even a good example as we're all eating a different amount of calories - I chose my %age based on 0.4 g per lb bodyweight.
  • Depends on the soup. I make a spicy tomato and pepper one that is really nice with a dollop of Greek yoghurt in it.
  • FS @LolBroScience you got huge!! (With hardly any fat gain!) Nicely done, Sir.
  • Get to the butchers missy, you deserve a steak!
  • Well, plant-based suggest vegan to me, apologies if that's not the case. She asked about red meat in conjunction with gaining weight and lifting - are you doing either of those?
  • No one is trying to force you to eat meat so why push vegan on others?
