  • Stay at home dad here. This time of year I tend to run 3 days a week as well as in home workouts. On days I run I get up early and run before my wife leaves for work. The other days I do beachbody workouts. If I don't get them done early before she leaves I will get them done a little later. Our routine has been the same…
  • More times than not, all that negativity from friends and family is due to your healthy choices making them uncomfortable about their unhealthy lifestyle. Tune out the noise and focus on you!
  • If your set at 2800 now I would stay there for a week or two and see how your body reacts. If you were eating much lower than that prior to setting it there you may see a little weight gain. If you dont see any change I would up it 100-200 calories a week. It seems crazy but a lot of times eating more will break the…
  • I am not a crossfitter but this is the 2nd year I have completed Murph. Last year I finished in 1:02 and this year I cut 5 minutes off and finished it in 57 minutes. I wore my vest with 20lbs and partitioned it in to 10 rounds. (10 pullups, 20 pushups and 30 squats) My first mile was just over 8 minutes and I expected my…
  • My personal favorite is Insanity Asylum Volumes 1 & 2. I love the 60 day hybrid of the 2 programs.
  • The only way to get better at yoga is to keep trying. Everyone hates it at first because they suck at it...which lets you know how much you really need it. I will say that the original yoga from P90X was entirely too long so I swap it out for Fountain of Youth Yoga or P90X3 yoga.

  • My wife and I went from completely sedentary one day to joining an online fitness group and doing P90X the next. It was a shock but we both got in great shape and have maintained it for over 3 years now. It completely changed our lives. We now run in different mud runs like Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash and I like to run…
  • Looking at your diary I would say your calorie goal is probably close to the right place to start. I would balance the protein and carbs at a 40/40 split and then set your fat around 20% and see what that does for you. This is completely attainable from home. You don't have to build out a total home gym but there will be…
  • Helpful post.
  • You definitely want a blend of resistance training and cardio if your goal is to lose weight. Several options available these days from trainers, to online programs as mentioned above to purchasing something like Body Beast that you can stream on a mobile app in the gym. Bodybuilding.com is also a great resource for…
  • Yoga is the fountain of youth. If you are looking for in home yoga find one that you will like. I tend to lean toward shorter yoga personally. I used to do yoga from P90X and at over an hour it was just too long. Beachbody has a couple that are in the 30-40 minute range. I am sure there are also some on youtube. The key…
  • A heart rate monitor will be your best bet.
  • Have you talked to your Dr. about your Iron deficiency?
  • Your macros may be just as important as your calorie goal. If you are wanting to drop body fat I would go with a 40P/40C/20F. Your calorie goal sounds about right with your high level of activity. Have you been tracking? Do you know how many calories a day you are currently consuming?
  • Its very possible. That time period isn't about "fast" results. Two pounds a week is a very attainable goal. I lost over 60 pounds in 6 months by focusing on proper nutrition (not salads and starvation) and P90X. My wife lost over 30 in that same time. If you're looking for accountability find a group here or on facebook…
  • Great post. They say it takes 21 days to form new habits. Stick with it and I know you will get there.
  • Losing a pound or two per week is great. Are you tracking consistently to see whats throwing you off every other week when you are gaining?
  • I have used a Polar FT7 for the past couple years and it has yet to fail me. I also know the FT4 is a good model and tends to be a little less $$$.
  • Congrats on starting your journey and best of luck!
  • Welcome back.
  • Having done both Asylum programs several times I can tell you its near impossible to figure it with out a monitor. I wear a HR monitor and my burns are different nearly every time. Some days I completely crush the workouts and others I move a little slower or maybe break a little more so it changes it. Best of luck with…
  • High blood pressure, heart disease and stroke are the more common issues. When trying to lose weight a diet high in sodium can lead to increased water retention. Try cutting some of your pre-packaged foods and you will see your sodium levels decrease.

  • Depends on your fitness goals.
  • Try foam rolling. If you dont want to buy a foam roller you can roll up a towel, use a tennis ball or even use a rolling pin.
  • Dont be afraid to add some resistance training to your routine as well.
  • Was there pain involved or what do you mean by "unable to lift any weight"? Sounds more like an injury or muscle fatigue.
  • Its a great program for beginners and those that are time strapped.

  • I prefer Body Beast for resistance training and Insanity Asylum for HIIT trainings.
  • The best time to do it is when it fits your schedule. Time generally is not the real issue. Its more likely just changing the way you spend your down time. When my wife and I started we had to force ourselves to bed earlier at night so that we could get up earlier and get it done first thing before life gets in the way.…
  • You also run a higher risk of injury. You'd be better suited getting in 1 good 30-60 minute workout and dialing in your nutrition the rest of the day. Remember the path to health and fitness is a marathon and not a sprint.
