WHen I started I used the Biggest Loser dvds a lot. I had a hard time keepig up, but I did what I could and saw results. I also love Jillian Michael's Biggest Winner set. I would suggest checking a bunch of different titles out of your library first and seeing what works for you before spending lots of money on dvds!

Hey, Shanta! If this is really a very rare occurance, I would say not to get too stressed about it. It's done. Let go of the guilt, keep moving forward, and start making healthy choices again. It wasn't *one* "pigout" that got any of us to a place we didn't want to be. ONE pigout won't completely derail you! Drink lots of…

I just want to add to the chorus of those who are reassuring you that exercise doesn't have to mean jumping into an intense gym session every day. Walking is a *great* way to get some exercise! Our bodies are healthier when we use them. Start with a walk around the block. Or go the your library and borrow some low…

Every day, I wear my heart rate monitor while exercising so i can track everything. I do my best to eat those calories (or most of them). This morning, though, I did 45 minutes of yoga with the Wii Fitness Coach program. I saw that, at the end, I had burned 372 calories (which is actually 3 more than I burned doing cardio…

Thank you! I need a new heart rate monitor for my beloved - his doesn't count calories. Might buy a new one for myself, too!

Yum! Thanks for sharing!

Mine has an adjustable strap, so when I got it, I was able to make it large enough to fit. In my opinion, it takes a little getting used to, but it was okay.

Well said! If he says that kind of stuff allthe time or continues to say it now that you've talked, you have a problem. If it was a thoughtless one-time remark... Well, who are any of us to tell you to end a relationship based on one incident you've relayed to us? You CAN reach your goals and you DO deserve to speak up for…

I get up at 4:30 each morning so I have time to work out before work. I always eat first thing. Usually I have 1/4 cup cottage cheese or plain yogurt with 1/2 cup frozen fruit (thawed, of course). That usually put me right under 100 calories, but at least I have a little bit of "fuel" to get me through.

Portion size is a big factor, too! I just did some quick googling to get averages. Looks like your "average" calorie count for mushroom risotto is 150 cal/cup; for potato gnocchi it is 250 cal/cup (that's *not* counting the sauce and cheese); for egg noodles it is 220 cal/cup (100g of porcini mushrooms adds another 26; no…

I take the LoestrinFe and have never noticed any weight-related side effects from it.

Thank you for keeping us posted! Continuing to pray for her and the family!

It is a tough situation! Can you leave to take a walk for a few minutes? You'll be removing yourself from the temptation and will be doing something good for your body at the same time. I always find that when I do that, it's easier to say no when I get back.
-
I also used dvds - particularly the Biggest Loser ones - almost exclusively when I started. I couldn't always keep up (definitely outside my comfort zone!) but did what I could and eventually got better!

www.sparkrecipes.com, too. Also, recipezaar.com figures out nutritional info, but if that site doesn't recognize an ingredient, it won't include it in the nutritional data. On sparkrecipes, you can enter ingredients the database may not contain.

Thanks for the replies. In doing more web searching, I came across this rather frightening caloric anaylsis of typical Chinese fare: http://www.cspinet.org/nah/chinese.html. Yikes! (I *will* take that dinner into consideration when planning the rest of my meals that day, too.)

Prayers from Chicago, for him and for you!

So, I promised my boyfriend I'd pick up Chinese food on the way home from work Thursday night since we haven't had it since well before Christmas. (Thursday morning is my usual weigh-in, so I figure I'll have a week to deal with extra sodium before officially weighing in again!) I do want to plan ahead, though. I was…

I substitute the flour in cookies with whole wheat flour. No one has complained. In fact, my brother told me the cookies are like "baby crack" to my niece! (And then he rushed to assure me she gets plenty of fruits and veggies and he limits her cookies. Hee.)
-
:brokenheart: Many prayers from Chicago for her speedy recovery and for peace for all involved. God bless her for opening her heart to children!

Yeah, I agree. I had picked a number that falls within my healthy range (toward the higher end), but I figure I'll see. Right now, I just want to tone my tummy, whatever weight that means!

FWIW, I *just* got a Lebanese cookbook I had ordered (Kibee 'n' Spice and Everything Nice) and it has a recipe for Spinach Pie Triangles (Fatayer Sabanigh). It lists the nutritional info as 137 calories each. These are small-ish, though, since they say to cut dough into 3-4 inch rounds before filling and folding...

Good for you!

Those sound wonderful - thanks for sharing!

:flowerforyou: You rock.

I agree with just about everything you said, msarro (except I'm entertained by the snarky comments it makes - AND, on your birthday, it wears a party hat! Hee.). My main complaint is that it takes too long to get a decent workout. Between every exercise, there is down time. If I could program it to have me working for 30…

Yeah, but when I buy them, I eat one with a side salad and it's plenty filling, so I am willing to still have those once in a while! Thanks for finding that info!
-
You could tell them about sites that would let them calculate calories. like sparkrecipes.com or recipezaar. That way, if they didn't want to share the rcipe, maybe they would be willing to plug it in and get the info for you! Let us know if they do, because I love those, too, but try to stay away!

I got a pre-pub copy a few weeks ago - but haven't taken the time to read it yet! I'll try to do that soon and post my thoughts. (I haven't read her other books, just love her workout dvds.)

Mmm... Stale Peeps are the best! I also love black jelly beans, which can be a challenge to find. (Everyone I know really hates them and always chides me for eating them!) Found some today, though! I plan to bag them in individual size servings tonight. They always last me forever since I know I won't find a bag again…
