  • This is a dup of post I just left in another IF thread that also seemed relevant here too. IF just controls when you eat, not necessarily how much you eat. I did 16:8 IF for awhile. It didn't help or hurt my maintenance effort. I stopped doing it simply because I found it inconvenient to try to eat on a schedule. Most days…

I stopped doing it simply because I found it inconvenient to try to eat on a schedule. Most days I just eat OMAD but I don't do this everyday. I recently fasted for 36 hrs (water, both,…

  • Been living a very inactive "lifestyle" recently and all that I do for exercise currently is row 30-60 mins per day, 5-6 days/wk for a total of about 5hrs/wk on my Concept2 rower, which most "experts" say is enuf "excercise" for the massesfor heart health and other physical benefits. Of course, I could and should do more…
  • "Have days when you don't feel like working out?" Of course, who doesn't? Sometimes I take a break and sometimes I just push thru & do it. No one is watching me and it's entirely up to me to decide what to do about it.
  • I have been using a free Android app called "Pedometer" made by ITO Industries for years. Don't know if it's available for iPhones or not It is simple to operate, runs in background if you don't turn it off and is very accurate for distance when compared to other trackers like "Map My Hike" or a handheld GPS. If you can…
  • FWIW, I never backpacked in weather cold enuf 2 need a down jacket BUT, if I did, I'd probably have worn a light gortex (or similar) rain jacket over it which would have minimize any wear from straps on the down jacket but still allow body moisture to pass thru and no wet down the down.
  • According to one of their webpages, it is Apple Health and Google Fit compatible. Even so, the benefits of the Oura seem to be mainly as a sleep/wellness (both mental and physica) monitor (rather than a fitness) tracker), which is how they seem to be marketing the ring these days.
  • Just realized that I previously responded to this thread. Dup reponse deleted.
  • I you are gaining wt, you are NOT "at/under" cals. You are OVER cals and are NOT accurately accounting for what you eat
  • i use 2 drink 4-6 cans of soda and 3-4 cans of beer EVERYDAY. Stocked them in my frig by the case. That was up to 1200 useless cals of soda and beer that I drank daily. No wonder that I got fat! Went cold turkey and stopped doing that about 6 yrs ago and immediately lost 40#s from 200 to 160 where I still am now I still do…
  • I was VitD deficient. Discovered this only after a new doc ordered a blood test 4 it along w/a lot of other tests as a new px of his about 10 yrs ago He immediately gave me one of those RX only super doses of Vit and then it took several yrs of trial and error to find the right dosage for me which is 5k IU/day. Been…
  • If you feel guilty about drinking a "pint", it's because you feel that it's "wrong" for you to do so for some reason. Whether you "should" feel guilty about doing that is another matter. Personally, I drink wine and hard liquor daily at home and draft beer when I eat out occasionally and IMO it's no one else's business if…
  • How does it help you w/your sleep issues? Thought about buying one as a fitness tracker but balked at the price. I've been having sleep issues recently too. Have tried white noise, relaxation techniques and certain prescription and otc solutions w/min results. So, I would be interested in buying an Oura if it can really…
  • Rib pain is often associated w/an oblique strain, injury or hernia You don't mention where in the arm that you are experiening pain but, although experienced at thesame time, the cause of arm pain may be separate from the cause of the rib pain.
  • Interesting but I've already got all of the real (and similar) Gortex products that I need but, if the new lightweight product, helps 2 reduce the regular or closeout price of the older thicker product, I might be interested in buying more of the latter
  • can't imagine how any watch would yield accurate & reliable BP readings. i've using my Omron cuff BP device 2x's daiiy for the past 2 wks 2 monitor any chg in my BP due 2 some newly prescribed medication. The results can be highly variable even w/the cuff and I don't see how you could measure BP accurately and reliably w/o…
  • Another Progresso fan here too. I stock Spli Pea, Lentil and Clam Chowder. Never paid much attn to the cals or sodium content but the Split Pea and Lentil are low in both I also stock Campell's Chicken Noodle because the taste reminds me of my childhood; als are low but sodium is high. Don't eat/drink any of these soups…
  • I had both rt foot and rt ankle surgery at different times separated by 10-15 yrs Each time, I was on crutches for 3 months, was in a boot for 3 more months.and then had PT for about 2 months Didn't gain any weight either timr but my rt calf atrophied and lost some muscle mass that has never returned despite many yrs of…
  • All of my DEXA scans included a VAT measurement. There was no separate test required
  • i have quarterly DEXA and hydro results for over 5 yrs from 2015-2020 b4 the C19 pandemic shut everything down & b4 I stopped lifting seriously. Overall, the results were very consistent and were generally as expected. Of course, there were some variations that lacked explanation (like when I got a ZERO VAT reading, which…
  • I'm 70. Use to lift 5 days a wk but after a few injuries and some age related deterioration in my rt elbow, now I only row 5 days a wk instead. Also walk & hike a bit, still do some lifting -squats/deadlifts - and do some crossfit exercises but none of these things w/any regularlity.
  • @johnnsmith803 wrote: Is beef jerky a decent source of protein" Yes. @johnnsmith803 also wrote: "or is there a reason to stay away from it." Yes, if the jerky you choose has an excess of salt/nitrates, sugar or anything else that can be "bad" for you and you eat "too much" of the stuff. BUT, generally, the amount of jerky…
  • Recomp is good in theory but unrealistic in practice. The body just does work well trying to both loss wt/fat and gain muscle at the same time i tried doing it for a yr and measured my progress quarterly w/DEXA and hydro with minimal results. I previously did 2 cycles of bulk/cut over several yrs which was easier to…
  • check out these 2 beginning lifting programs online: Starting Strength and Stronglifts
  • I also use ErgData (which is free) but only to log my rowing sessions and automatically upload them to my C2 Logbook online. There is an "interactive" rowing routine which marks your pace vs a virtual skull based on parameters that you set but I never use it
  • 5 days on and 2 days off every wk.
  • Personally, I have absolutely no need for or interest in paying to use an interactive "training" program while rowing on my C2 or "riding" my spin bike. However, time spent while rowing or spin biking can obviously be tedious and boring, especially if you do it for longer time/distance sets, as I do. What I do to alieve…
  • I did IF rigorously (monitoring the clock) for awhile and it really didn't make any difference. Still do it now, less rigourously by just eating one meal per mid-day (most days) and am still able to maintain my weight by continuing to log all cals in MFP daily.
  • You appear to be "skinny fat" and my guess would be 15-20% because you look "soft" and lack muscle development. If you want to get a precise measurement get a DEXA scan or get weighed hydrostatically. Here's a link to a general discussion of how to go about increasing your muscle mass and improving your physique, if that's…
  • I quit drinking sodas over 5 years ago. Doing so help me lose 40# w/in 6 months and maintain that loss over time. Haven't had a drop since then. So, can't tell you how it tastes to me now but my guess is that it would taste super sweet and be unappealing to me now BUT I'm also sure that it wouldn't be hard to get hooked on…
