  • I figured out a similar thing with the Insanity program - not heavy lifting, but crazy cardio/bodyweight intervals. And although it's true that you can just run through the motions, I found that the more I concentrated on BOTH form and engaging muscles, the more results I got. Now, I've worked out regularly for 15 years -…
  • Sweating just means you are working really hard. When I was in 7th grade, I was the sweatiest girl on my volleyball team. All of the other girls who were good at volleyball were running around doing their thing and looking pretty and I was always jealous because I wasn't very good and was overweight and sweaty. Until one…
  • If you like drinking them for breakfast and it helps you, then do it. But it is probably better to eat real food the rest of the day.
  • Eggs and sweet potato hash. It's a super cheap base that has vitamins and protein, and you can add a ton of different veggies/meats/spices.
  • I'm just going to point out that to me it seems weird to have someone cook and clean for me. My husband and I do it together, or even when we do it separately we know that "I'm doing this and they are doing that". It's done for us, not "for" the other person. This idea just weirds me out. I would feel like I was living…
  • Sometimes you can't stop criticism, but you can stop letting it get to you. Have a frank chat with your mom and tell her "when you say X, it hurts my feelings. Please stop." Then whenever she says X, just repeat "I asked you not to say that. Please stop." She'll either get the message or she wont but if you don't play the…
  • This is why I order 90% of my clothes online...I found a couple of styles from Loft that fit me well, and so now my clothes from work just come from there. Shopping...*shudder*
  • This is hard. But I agree that you can't control someone else, and if you want them to stop being a child, stop acting like a mom. I want my husband to eat healthy too, but he doesn't want to. So, I've realized I can only control what I do. For example, when I grocery shop, I buy skim milk. If he wants 2% he can buy it and…
  • This person clearly can't math. Is it hard to calculate how many calories your body burns in a day? Yes. But not impossible. Is estimation always perfect? No. But you can get really darn good at estimating (and as anyone who works in the fields of economics, planning, policy, or healthcare knows a hecka lot more things in…
  • I"m happy to lose 3 pounds a month. If I lose 5 I am over the moon. Be happy with what you got and don't listen to what people on TV tell you.
  • Flew with my co-pilot (aka now-husband) across the country in a small plane that went 70 mph with no money or plans other than "get there". Involved some wilderness camping, some couch surfing, and eating a lot of granola bars. We loved every minute of it.
  • I am amazed at how much in the pictures I would not consider "food" (coke, chips, etc.)
  • As someone who loves and has seen great results from Body Pump, I would agree the key to shredding while doing low weight reps is to keep increasing your weight. When I was in the class I would see these ladies (it's almost always ladies!) not change their weight for months or years. I knew that I wanted to get stronger so…
  • Take a deep breath and do the following things: Eat real, non processed foods, with lots of fruits and veggies. Track what you eat and write it all down, every last bit of it. Exercise. If you are really concerned that it might be a health problem, talk to your doctor. Start doing these things and see what happens. If you…
  • My advice, to quote Nike, is "Just do it." Start with what you got - you can always add in more time/variety later. But it all depends on getting into a routine of doing something on a regular schedule, and making exercise a priority in your life. Good luck!
  • I have 8 Insanity workouts left and then I am DONE. I agree that it is more challenging, both physically and mentally in Month 2. I just want it to be OVER. For me, I need to just focus on one day at a time, and just make myself do it. It's like running - don't look at how far away you are from the finish line, just look…
  • 1. Turkey or lowfat salami sandwich, or homemade soup when I have it. (250-350 calories) 2. Cheese stick (60 calories) 3. 150-200 calories of nuts or trail mix 4. Fruit or carrot sticks. (50-150 calories) 5. Seltzer water. 6. Greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast. (200-300 calories) I eat this about 75% of days. Sometimes I…
  • You should CERTAINLY eat back your exercise calories, esp. when you eat that low. I'm the same weight, eat about 1700 daily, eat back my exercise calories, and am losing weekly.
  • Eat it! I work out so I can eat cake :)
  • Insanity has done more for my abs than....anything. I lost some weight, lost some inches, but my main result is a HUGE increase in energy/endurance, and a much slimmer midsection. :) I add in circuit/weight training once a week, and bike/run once a week to mix it up. So for me a typical week is 4 days of insanity, 2 days…
  • I've done MFP for about 3 years. During the "off and on" times, I've lost about 0 pounds (lost some and gained some). During the "On" times is where I lost weight. So my advice is to push yourself to stick to a program and log your food every week. It's surprising how much you forget or badly estimate when you are just…
  • Eh, I think we've gotten to a happy medium where he supports me doing what I want to do, as long as I don't bug him about what he wants to do. Perhaps not my ideal situation (I'd like to do more together) but I think it is a happy medium for us both.
  • What she said. Most of us are here to change/improve our lifestyles, not just drop weight asap. If you can do that and keep it off, good for you, but what I see a lot is people who have goals "I have to lose X by Y" and then they only lose a portion of X, get discouraged, and go back up to their start weight. Heck, I've…
  • Forgot to mention - I'm at a similar weight and found that I had better luck losing consistently by setting my target at "lose 1 pound per week" instead of "lose 1.5 pounds per week". It's slower but has been better in the long term for me.
  • Weight loss is not linear. I will not lose for 2 weeks, then lose 2 pounds overnight. Keep at the healthy habits and the weight will come off. Also, 4 weeks is not a long time. You can fluxuate quite a bit over that time, but if you keep eating less and exercising more you will see trends continue over coming months. Good…
  • Start eating less and exercising more. Don't wait for the perfect solution - just get moving. Also - 20 pounds in 10 weeks is not very realistic if you want to keep it off. Don't set yourself up for disappointment.
  • It's a good starting place - not too challenging but gets you used to working out hard for short intervals. The key is to stick with it. Good luck!
  • I measure at the smallest part so that I can keep accurate track - if I measure somewhere else (e.g. bellybutton) the tape could be positioned slightly differently at different times, messing up the measurements. If I do it at the smallest part, well, there's no where for it to go!
  • I'm hungry right now but going to lunch in 45 minutes - thank you I need inspiration just to wait it out!
