  • Great thread idea, it is always helpful to compare notes on gluten/dairy free foods. :-) Daiya has the best cheese substitutes, however, less is more, especially when using Daiya cheese in casseroles, melted on top, etc. Nutritional yeast flakes can also add some cheesiness, again, less is more. Don't expect these…
  • I'm not sure about the fat free, but if you google search words like: gluten free, sugar free, diabetic friendly and gluten free, etc. you may find some recipes or blogs that would be helpful.
  • Great job on encouraging healthy eating habits! You are doing what I want to do! Although I am transitioning more and more to whole foods with an emphasis on organic, it is really hard to get the cupboards cleaned out and as you mentioned not buy the odd product here and there.
  • Awesome!! So glad to hear the good report! Happy birthday a day late! :) Still doing about the same as far as my goals are concerned. Yesterday was more of a snacky day, but not too bad.
  • Thanks for thinking of me, zcb94! :) I did see that article and it was helpful, especially the part about rearranging your schedule to avoid snacking during the time of day that is hardest...for me that is the early evening before I have supper. Still working on the snacking issue...been better this week. I am still in the…
  • Hoping you have a 5+ for today! :-)
  • That is an awesome goal and sounds like you are doing a great job! You are more committed than I am, that is for sure. I have a horrible time fitting in exercise and I don't have anyone to blame but myself. As far as my goals...snacking habit wasn't so great over the weekend. Doing better today with that. Exercise - hoping…
  • Woohoo!! I finally got one exercise session in! I tried the 25 minute Cardio dance workout posted on the MFP blog July 4. It was fun! :) The snacking...we are working on. Today I found myself snacking when preparing supper and putting leftovers away - it is a horrible habit! Although I am keeping the snacking under better…
  • Aw! How neat! Cats are a great pet and definitely can bring cheer! :) So I'm down to one snacking exception. :( Haven't exercised yet this week either :( Really want to exercise today - will see what happens. Oh well, I'm doing good in other areas so have to remember I'm not "superwoman"! haha I'll just keep working on it.
  • Thanks! :) Well, today I used two of my "snacking exceptions" :( I snack without even thinking about it. Ugh!!
  • I'll join in! :) My goals for July would be: 1. Exercise at least 2 times a week for at least 15 minutes. 2. No snacking anytime between scheduled meals. - I will give myself four exceptions of this rule for the month. Zcb94, hope your family feels better soon. Your July goal of being more positive sounds like a great goal…
  • I know I'm checking in late but overall my goals for June were a success! Still room for improvement but can say I'm doing better than before. Sounds like everyone else that checked in was also positive about their goals. So that is great! Awesome work, everyone!!
  • So I've been plugging along. Doing pretty good except for yesterday- major snacking going on in between my regular scheduled snacks/meals, hate it when I self sabatoge like that!! My step count hasn't always been 5,000 but I've been fairly close most of the time and even went over 5,000 one day. Zcb94 and louubelle16, glad…
  • Tuesday - June 16 Steps - around 3,000  Snacking between planned meals - a little bit before supper :( Snacking after 9 pm - the urge was strong but I resisted. :) I "unofficially" weighed in this morning (my weekly weigh in is on Saturday or Sunday); I have lost about 2 pounds in the last week and a half!! :)
  • Still trudging away on my goals. Didn't do very good yesterday on my 5,000 steps goal but was pretty close today!! The urge to snack was definitely alive and well but although I may have had one or two extra snacks, they were portion controlled and not a free for all. Pushed the 9 pm deadline pretty close tonight but at…
  • Good goals! #1 is a toughie and a goal I am working on as well by not eating after 9 pm. I, also, used to be a non-breakfast eater and it was a long process to becoming a breakfast eater. I still don't like a heavy, big breakfast but now I wouldn't feel very good if I didn't at least eat something small in the morning. So…
  • Zcb94: Beautiful picture of the rainbow! Friday I got pretty close to my 5,000 step goal and did not snack between meals or after 9 pm. Saturday the snacking was a bit harder to control but overall didn't do too bad. Only around 3,000 steps Saturday...sorta surprised me. Usually Saturday step counts are higher. The next…
  • I did the whole elimination diet thing and now still eat about 80% FODMAP. You can find information online, but I will caution you that not all lists or fodmap labeled recipes are actually fodmap friendly. Stick to sources you know are credible. If you are working with a dietitian or have been given a list from your…

  • Yesterday only got around 2,300 steps in yesterday. :( I have an desk job so trying to get in 5,000 steps is a challenge! No snacking after 9. :) I did have one extra snack than I normally do, but I didn't raiding the fridge or pantry for anything in sight, so I'm ok with it. Glad you had a successful day yesterday! :)…
  • Was about 1,200 steps shy of my goal but did not snack at all in between meals or after 9 pm. While I'm happy about that, I know myself all too well...the first day is always good...if two weeks from now I can say I haven't snacked in between meals, then I will be really happy!! Zcb94: I greatly admire how you are trying…
  • Is it too late to join for the June challenge? My goals are to: 1. Not snack after 9 pm. 2. Not snack in between meals. (Do you see a pattern developing??) 3. Try to walk at least 5,000 steps a day. I have been trying to work on these goals for the last couple months, but it isn't working very well, hoping that posting on…
  • CW: 147 GW:132 Height: 5'5" I am not in college currently, but would like a fall deadline to be back to at least 137 lbs (which is on the high end of my personal "acceptable weight" range). I was to my goal weight but life and snacking got the best of me! :-(
  • Oatmeal is my go to breakfast. I weigh it out the night before (you could weigh out several baggies of oats for the week, sort of an "instant" oatmeal), then just add water and microwave (about 2 minutes in my microwave for 40 g oats and 1 c water) Then I can just add whatever toppings sound good. Later in the morning my…
  • I totally agree with the Aldi's Livegfree recommendations! Such a lifesaver! Their brown rice spaghetti noodles are amazing!! I served them to someone without wheat/gluten restrictions and they commented on how good it was, BEFORE they knew it was gluten free. Aldi's also has whole grain and white gluten free bread. I…
  • Well this isn't a sauce, but is a healthy way to use rice: Stuffed pepper soup. Here is the link - http://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2013/09/crockpot-stuffed-pepper-soup.html This soup is very easy to adjust for food preferences or substitutions and still comes out great! The recipe is for the crock pot, but can easily be…
  • I know what you mean about not realizing how much you are eating. That is why logging on MFP is so great! It is a learning experience so don't get discouraged, this all takes time to figure out. It is all about finding the right balance for you. How did you come up with the 1200 goal? Unless you are very small in stature…
  • First, what is your calorie goal? MFP recommends no less than 1200. Even 1200 is too low for most people. You are just starting out. Don't give up on the first day. Realize that this is a learning experience and you may need to readjust your thinking. Just eat moderately the rest of the day. Yes, you will be over. But you…
  • I can't help you with a recipe but did you weigh the flour or use a measuring cup? The denseness of the flour could vary quite a deal if just using a measuring cup which could have an impact on your recipe. Any recipes that call for an all purpose gluten free flour mix would probably work,
  • What about lettuce (or spinach) salad with your favorite toppings, Greek (or regular) yogurt with fruit and granola or cheese and crackers? This link may give some ideas for using your kettle: http://thestonesoup.com/blog/2012/02/the-quickest-easiest-way-to-make-a-hot-meal-without-a-kitchen/ There are tons of microwave…
