  • MFP is an amazing tool and has helped me tremendously, I'm not dissing the program. I was merely making a commentary about the implied meaning and how they may influence people to go to unhealthy extremes. And if the program could be improved... isn't that a good thing to share user opinions? I get that the statement is…
  • lift heavy. It can be done to a certain extent, at the very beginning when unconditioned. A great deal of muscle can be gained and fat lost initially, but the scale doesn't move much. I'm struggling with that at the moment, I have to put pounds on the scale and want more muscle, but was so pleased with the low bf %, I…
  • Welcome to the family! And it's a wonderful one. My brother and I joke about drinking the kool-aid, in bad taste I know but it gets the idea across. He's got a shirt that says: CrossFit, like Meth but you get to keep your teeth. Silly.
  • As everyone will tell you, spot reducing doesn't really happen. Could be your last 5 will come from there. We do hold weight around the middle from several causes. A few things you could look at are: Your stress levels Are you getting enough rest Are you bloated from hormones, water retentions, or gut irritating foods And…

  • Protein and fat
  • I make a batch of trail mix with different nuts, dried fruit, coconut, whatever I've got. Pretty high calorie though so you may want to watch out for that. Baby carrots are great snackers and keep awhile, especially if you keep them in water in the fridge. Hard boiled eggs are easy to do a whole 6-12 early in the week and…
  • From my research a gram per pound of lean muscle is plenty for building mass. Much more than that won't hurt (as others have stated, for someone without kidney issues) but won't really go towards building muscle, it will just be used as energy. I've also read that the upper limit of what your body can do with protein is…
  • They are chalky and dry, egh. Love the benefits though. There is a powder you mix in warm water, Natural Calm. They sell it at the health food store and I tried a few packets, they have flavors but I liked the plain fine. When my bottle is up I'll go get the powder. The warm drink at night is also soothing before bed.
  • What they said ^^^ :) And you can adjust your macro goals. I know what you mean though, I wish the colors didn't change to red, kinda dumb.
  • And congratulations on what you have accomplished so far! Your goals and what you are motivated to do will change as you progress, so for now be proud of where you are and where you are going.
  • Yeah, I think of skinny fat as thin but soft and unhealthy. A deceptively unhealthy rather than an obvious. I'm a recovering "skinny fat" myself, people assumed I was healthy and fit because I was relatively thin but I had honestly let myself get very deconditioned, both cardiovascular and strength.
  • I've wanted to try making yogurt...

  • I second the cauliflower rice and spaghettie squash. Delish. I don't have a food processor so doing the cauliflower by hand makes a huge mess of the kitchen, good though.
  • Mine is public also. It's not perfect but pretty consistently paleo/primal. Experimenting with oats in protein shake the past few days...Weekends are usually trouble with family functions, I do the best I can. Several days in a row usually look similar based on groceries available and leftovers.
  • Ha, I like that description. It is really frightening.
  • Awesome job everyone! I get really stoked about my accomplishments, even though they may be small in comparison, they mean something to me. I've just recently progressd to big girl pushups after never being able to do a single one. That excitement is what I use to keep building. Keep on being proud!
  • Man.. I just looked up when the games will be showing and I'll be stuck in training, maybe I can get a chance to watch. I love this stuff too, it's amazing to watch what people are capable of, I'm always excited when the Olympics roll around too.
  • Here's is the link to the CrossFit group http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/116-crossfit-love
  • I'm hooked too! I don't track them here, I've just set up my daily goal high enough to account for them. For example my BMR is 1204, to maintain on a non active day I need 1926, exercise day 2167 I'm working on gaining muscle mass which brings me to 2176 on rest, 2417 exercise day. I've set my goal to 2300 and and play a…
  • I relish them. lol Everyone above has great suggestions. Light exercise good sleep water ice quality rest quality diet I notice a difference when I take glutamine or not, could be placebo but the research is pretty good for it. Took an ice bath one night, will never do that again, thought I was going to hyperventilate,…
  • You can try some icing for the pain and give it a little time to heal. For next time use a foam roller of some sort on your calves pre and post run, shin splints come from over strain on the small muscles on the inner calf attaching to the shin when the large ones at the back are not activating enough. I'd also think about…
  • I would add that pastured eggs will have much more vitamin D than traditional eggs. Here's a link that describes some of the differences. http://www.quora.com/Vitamin-D/Do-free-range-and-pastured-eggs-have-more-vitamin-D
  • Nice share, thank you. I'll stick to fruit and veg for my carbs though.
  • Interesting read, nice to see counter arguments. People are always going to find the research to support their beliefs, on both sides. I'm one of those that had apparently unknown sensitivities and now feel great. But I never would have thought to try or been encouraged to try this template without the "diet" being out…
  • I do half my body weight in pounds as fluid ounces, works out to 8 cups, I seem to range in the 7-9 cups a day. I try to go for more but for someone who was chronically dehydrated less than 6 months ago from 3-4 cups a day I've made a huge improvement. Feel so much better.
  • Just sat down with my afternoon cup right now. I drink plain Celestial Seasons and have a piece of dark chocolate, my afternoon treat at work. My hubby never liked tea but he's coming around, don't worry, your tastes change.
