I think we as humans get ahead of ourselves and 'solve the problem'*, then make up\draw conclusions to support that hypothesis. I believe this line of thinking doesn't get us to correct answer. We (as humans) should approach the problem with baby steps, quantify what we can, and hope that we can, as a species, best define…

It's been said already but i bears repeating. Don't change anything on race day! I sort of ignored this on my race and changed my shirt (surely, my shirt doesn't matter). It had a seam in the inside that rubbed the inside of may arm raw, pretty uncomfortable for most of the race. I also changed my nutrition before another…

My dad had a juke box at the house when i was a kid. Weekend mornings we would wake up to 50's\60's\Motown\Country. I had 2 songs I would play all the time: "Sixteen Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford and "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto. My brother would play "Just a Gigolo" by David Lee Roth. Had a 'win' last night. This Heineken…

I have an 'estimator' of sorts i got through my weight management program and for ethnic foods (Mexican, Chinese, etc.) it lists the food as 350-600 calories per 'cup' (volume) or 8oz. (scale weight). The description of the food is: "Starch and heavy fat, high fat proteins, ethnic high fat combos, high fat dairy, ice cream"

How much did you weigh when you started running? 268lbs What did you do to build up enough stamina to run? I ran What exercises are beneficial for someone wanting to run but hasn't started yet? running, walking, swimming (IMO) Start by walking then 'run' a bit. Then 'run' a bit more each time. I use quotes around 'run'…

Here's the deal. No one is telling anyone that they cannot say "Merry Christmas" to anyone else. If you celebrate Christmas and want to wish someone else a "Merry Christmas", go for it. No one should be offended by a honest sentiment. The problem is when a non-religious organization promotes a religious celebration. As far…

I like it. Wish i had it around when i was a kid, i hate regular milk. I recommend Blue Diamond Almond milk. Full disclosure: My grandparents own an almond orchard and sell their almonds to Blue Diamond.

Went to an amusement park and the overhead bar barely got 1 click. Took quite a bit of force for that 1 click. Wanted to go to Catalina Island for our anniversary, but decided against it because the zip line that we wanted to go on had a max weight of 230 or 250. I was 268.

In my weight management class they gave us a worksheet that we could use to estimate calories burned with Physical Activity. For your weight and an intensity of Medium (Walking, mowing, tennis, biking, skating, light aerobics) it shows a calorie burn of 3 calories per minute. So, 30 minutes * 3 = 90 Calories burned.

If its not in your playlist already, add it and crank it! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz_-VaTHpc8). "Get, that, dirt off your shoulder"

When i think of air, i like to think of intangible things, like a voice or sound. Something that you could never really grasp, hold or control, fleeting, something that manipulates that air\atmosphere.

Good Job! If you have a smart phone, I recommend an app like runtastic that will track your mileage. I have been running now for a little over a year, it is pretty cool to see how the miles (867.48 to be precise) have added up.

+1 for the most technically accurate answer. I can use a cupped hand in a pinch, but the oatmeal has too cool a bit first :)

Try taking on one item at a time. Instead of trying to fix everything, work on the most important thing to you. Ditto on the mental aspect, weight loss and exercise are mostly mental things. When i was training for my marathon, i thought i was training my muscles, turns out what i was really training was my brain. I had to…

Also, try to warm up the muscles before stretching, Stretching a 'cold' muscle can cause injury.

Here is the schedule i used: http://www.halfmarathons.net/training_tips_schedule_beginner_runners.html The difference in my training was that on tuesday\thursday i would go for 45 minutes and not worry about the miles (it ended up being about 4 miles anyway). On the weekend, i would ensure that i hit the higher mileage…

Maybe the term 'starvation mode' is what throws folks off on this subject. Maybe a better term is 'survival mode'. I imagine folks at 1200 calories probably don't feel like they are 'starving' maybe they don't even feel hungry. I'm usually a scientific guy, this anecdotal to the max, gathered from life experience so far,…

I think your question is above most of our pay grades here on MFP  . Sounds like you have a specific need for professional assistance for a specific challenge. That said... You are making a great first step, you recognize the issue you want to attack and are seeking out assistance. I am confident that with the right…
