It's my view that great benefits (functional strength and aesthetic) come from performing the major compound exercises with a weight that is challenging at 8 repetitions: 1. Deadlift 2. Squat 3. Bench Press 4. Military Press 5. Pull-ups (Assisted, Bodyweight, or added weight)

I have double cheeseburgers quite a bit and never worry about it because I always make sure they fit in to my daily macronutrient goals. They are very satiating and a big protein source. You should watch Chazz Weaver's "Downsize Me" documentary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axxpb7TJ7cQ

The point everyone is trying to drive home to you is that losing body fat is what's important -- that is what determines how strong you are and how good your body looks. Therefore, you should be far more concerned with losing inches than scale weight. As long as you are losing inches, you are getting stronger, losing fat,…

A pound of muscle looks like a baseball. A pound of fat looks like a softball. That's how you could be and look smaller but weigh the same or more. That's a really good thing: it means your body fat percentage is going down.

Congratulations: you look terrific. It will be gone when you get to 120. I, too, have a slight pooch under by navel -- it's the last thing left but it gets smaller and smaller each week. It doesn't even look like it belongs to my body. I'm 46, lost 103 lbs., and it's going to be completely gone in another 10 lbs. I'm…

BMR is what your body burns at rest to stay alive. On MFP, they have TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) calculated at BMR plus normal daily activities -- I think it grossly overestimates what most overweight people do in one day. I can only say what has worked for me. When I exercise, I eat at my BMR + 30% --…

Stevia for sure. All-natural.

I agree with nearly everything that you wrote here. If the average woman eats slightly less than 1,200 calories, mostly from protein and fat, and supplements with a GMP certified multivitamin, it's not difficult to imagine her being satiated, nourished, and very successful in her fat loss journey. As a 6'0" man, I ate…

If you find an activity that you really enjoy, you won't hate it. On the contrary, you'll have trouble stopping yourself from doing it. Don't feel compelled to do what everyone else is doing either.

There is really quite a bit of biochemical and physiological nuance from person to person. For instance, some obese people and untrained people have shown an ability to both gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. After doing a statistical analysis on myself, I found that I lost the most weight when I did lots of…

It's my view that at 5'3", 238 lbs.and suffering from hypothyroidism, you are almost certainly insulin resistant. You should talk to your doctor about the possibility of going on a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet. I think you'd be a perfect candidate. In the meantime, avoid sugar at all costs -- replace it with…

No, it's not too much in my view. Today, you had 113 grams of protein. As a general rule, anyone who is following an intense workout program (as you are) and losing weight, should take in between 0.7 and 1.0 grams of protein per pound of body weight to preserve/gain muscle.

If I'd only known my high school biochem textbook better, I would have never been overweight a day in my life!

In many ways, your story sounds familiar. Reach out when and if you need to. I'm from NJ too.

I'd be happy to have you as an MFP friend and help you in any way I can -- grilling recipes or otherwise.

Anecdotally, in November of 2011, I was 308 lbs. and 41.7% body fat. Today, eight months later, I'm 208 lbs. and 19.7% body fat. On average, then, I've lost 12.5 lbs. and 2.75% body fat per month. For most of my journey, I aggressively restricted calories and carbohydrates -- typically eating 10% above BMR, 100 grams of…

I'd be happy to help you any way I can. I, too, started at 308 lbs. just 7 months ago. I'm 207 now and, after reading your bio, have a pretty good idea what might be your problem. I'll start by sending you a friend request.

_______________________________________________________ The overwhelming majority of people who are "significantly overweight" are insulin resistant and suffer from metabolic syndrome. Being hypocaloric without cutting carbs won't be effective for reducing body fat, could make matters even worse, and possibly put them in…

It's often a result of losing too much sodium in the urine and sweat during the early stages of diet and exercise. This is especially true if your carbohydrate intake has been dramatically reduced. Many experts in the field recommend a bullion cube in hot water to replace lost sodium. This may or may not be your situation.…

I weigh myself and measure body fat % each day when I wake up. Therefore, anything I eat after midnight I record for the previous day because of its impact on those numbers. Parenthetically, I rarely eat anything after my dinner, which usually is over by 7 pm. What is now called "Intermittent Fasting" is something…

All they mean by the statement is that you shouldn't use it as a meal replacement. I've been taking it every day for 7 months and lost 100 lbs.
