Seems like it is all over the web. Here's the top hit from Google: http://www.isagenixhealth.net/early-to-bed-early-to-drop-pounds/ But really, it seems like crap to me (the PR and the manuscript it is promoting) First: the title (at least of the PR) - "Early to bed" is wrong. The study looked at sleep deprivation, not…

I know this has been pointed out, but I want to emphasize it... EAT MORE THAN YOUR RMR. Your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is just that, resting. That's how many calories you'd need to eat to maintain weight while simply resting. But, I would wager, you get up once in a while, walk around, fix dinner... all that takes extra…

To reduce body fat %, you need to either (1) reduce your overall weight while maintaining lean body mass or (2) maintain your overall weight while increasing your LBM. For (1) eat at a slight deficit, eat enough protein (0.8 * 168 = ~134 g) and do some form of resistance training. For (2), eat at TDEE, eat enough protein…

With the HPLC grade EtOH as well?

Cool! Good job!

MYTH. Excess calories get turned to fat for later use. Whether you eat them at breakfast, lunch or dinner. The key is, over the course of a day or a week, to use more calories that you take in. Even if you eat 1500 calories at dinner. You'll use a bunch of that (500-1,000 depending on your metabolic rate) just being alive…

Then that guy was cray cray. But his standards, tap water isn't water then. It has calcium carbonate, lead, copper, chlorine... It is virtually impossible to get absolutely pure water. Even the stuff in my lab that is double distilled and then reverse osmozed still has something left in it. Plus, it tastes like crap, and…

If you want to focus on the macros, and are consistent in exercise, then the TDEE/IIFYM method might be easier. You can change the ratios for each, to get them where you want overall. For example, the second set you posted has protein at 197g. That is a lot, possibly more than you need (usually, aim for about 0.8 - 1g/lb…

What they said. Weight loss is about your overall diet, not one meal. At only 348 cal per serving, that recipe is already pretty low cal. So yes, that'd be a good weight loss recipe, with or without your changes IF you eat at an overall calorie deficit. If you ate the whole pot of it in one sitting, that'd be 1392 cals…

If you lost no LBM, you'd be about 12 or 13%. But given your pics didn't load for me (except the first one), that's the best I can do! ETA - they loaded now, and I'd say 13% is too low. Maybe 15%?

No, not tempted. Never did like Big Macs. Now, I did have a chipotle burger and strawberry milkshake from Backyard Burger yesterday though. That was good.

A Doctor required very low cal diet following surgery with close monitoring is not the same as someone simply choosing to eat 600 cal per day as they feel they will have faster weight loss. Promoting a VLCD for a "normal" person here on MFP will get you a strike as it isn't a healthy way to lose weight if you are not under…

This is the same trick (and yes, it is a trick) that those "magic bracelet" people use. Go look up applied kinesiology. http://www.skepticblog.org/2010/09/23/power-balance-magical-energy-bracelets-or-nonsense/

I want to know who invited this person to speak... and if they still have a job?

Protein is used to repair muscles after a workout, not to strengthen them during it per se. Your body starts to repair muscle about 2-4 hours after a resistance training session, and that continues for up to 24 hours. It is a good idea to get some protein in you at some point an hour or 2 before and/or after the workout.…

Adding a few inches to the femur and humerus will give you that long lean look you are after.
-
Did anyone who told you this give you any real scientific backing for not eating after 7? No? Didn't think so, because there is none. Eat what you like, when you like. As long as you are in a calorie deficit then you will lose weight.

The business model of an MLM is to get you to sell to, and recruit, friends/aquiantences/colleagues etc. It is taking advantage of people's good nature - their very friendship with you - to get them to buy something they probably would not have bought in the first place. Look at the comments upthread about people have had…

I think I see where our disconnect is. You seem to think that because it is registered with the FDA as a pesticide, it is therefore a harmful pesticide by the time we get to eat it. That we could grind up some corn and use it to bug proof our houses. I see the fact that it is registered with the FDA as a pesticide a way…

Oh I agree. I'm certainly not "for" Monsanto! But GMO does not automatically mean bad.
-
Huh? Do one have to be unethical to have economic freedom?
-
Where did I say that having people come to your house to sell you stuff was wrong? I said the business model of MLM companies was unethical, as is the pressure put on friends and family to buy and host parties. You could have at-home shopping without the scams.

Bt (the pesticide in Roundup ready crops) doesn't occur naturally? Source: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef130.asp It may, in GMO crops, be considered "artificial" or "non-natural", but the protein itself is completely natural. It has been used agriculturally as microbial biopesticide since the 60's.

I bought my gf Fallout Boys CD for Christmas. She's a Luddite and doesn't like mp3s, smartphones etc. She still plays albums on vinyl.

This thread needs more Kaylee gifs! I have no positive associations with MLMs. My ex (way back when were first married) hosted a party for a friend who was selling Pampered Chef. We paid for all the food and wine, put on a party, invited friends, and then they were pressured into buying stuff that, if they needed, they…

Um, cross breeding is still, as far as I know, cross breeding. Genetic Engineering is what we do in labs; Genetically Modified Organisms are the result of that engineering.

But saying be careful means I love you!

If you want to gain muscle, you need to be eating at (for a recomp) or above your true TDEE. Get enough protein (shoot for 1 g/lb body weight) and lift heavy things. You are not going to gain muscle if you are not eating enough (and even if you are, its a very slow process, especially for a woman).
-
Even totally sedentary, your TDEE is about 2352. Exercise doesn't actually add *that* much over what you need to live, breathe, move etc. Thing is, you are losing. Which is good. I get that. But are you losing in the best way possible? And what are you going to do when you get where you want to be? I am almost your height…

It would take my gf withholding sex for a year if I didn't wear them... but she wouldn't do that, so I think I'm safe!
