  • I love dancing and Zumba is a fun exercise for me. If you go into it and put your full effort you'll get a great workout. I can't say if I lost weight doing it because it was only one aspect of my fitness routine but it was a fun class.

  • My unpopular opinions: * It is NOT impossible for anyone to loose weight. * Being fat is a choice. * BMI is not the gold standard for every body type. * No one's life is too busy to exercise.
  • The only one macro that I pay attention to for the deficit part and that's sodium. As a female too much sodium can cause you to retain water and skew the numbers on the scale. I find if I go over my alloted sodium my rings are tight when I first wake up and I know immediately that my body is holding on to extra fluid. If I…
  • I'm not a runner (I actually have a gym shirt that says I Hate Running, lol) but I understand the effort that goes into it. I live in a small friendly town and even I know our runners to the point of recognizing the new guy or girl on the sidewalk. I don't think that you look like you are struggling but you probably stand…
  • This is me today... clinically obese with a height of 5'4 and a weight of 176.8. BMI of 30.2%.
  • I'm 5'4 and my personal "ideal" weight has always put me over the BMI scale. I work out a lot and am fairly muscular. I prefer to be around 160-170.
  • Invest in a crockpot. You can typically get one under $20. You can then prepare your food in bulk. You can do soups, stews, meats, veggies, and even desserts. Plus, it's nearly effortless. Load it up in the morning and by dinner time you have a bubbling hot delicious meal. Favorite of mine: Fiesta Chicken ... you put raw…
  • One of the things I'm constantly having to remind my husband is that like it or not he's getting older and his body is not recovering the way it used to. He's 38 and a lifelong weightlifter. I am still learning to pace myself because I'm right there with him at 37. Allow for the suckiness of aging.
  • I work out 5-6 times a week with a mixture of cardio, weights, HIT circuit training, and yoga. Check out Jen Hewerd (or Heward) on you tube. She's a fitness model in California has some awesome circuit training sessions that is guaranteed to kick your butt.
  • Why not take what they said and throw it back in their face by loosing the weight? Part of being a grown up is being able to handle criticism and respond appropriatly. Every one you you meet will not support your journey, but you aren't doing this for them ... you are doing this for YOU!
  • Most restaurants offer a lighter menu showing the calories. Opt out of creamy dressings and dips. Drink water with lemon juice rather than soda or cocktails. If they don't list calories go for a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes only (no mayo) and don't get the bread toasted ... they usually toast with…
  • What are you bringing to the BBQ? Don't put butter and salt on the corn on the cob. Fruit salad is a great option if she's not putting sweet sauces into it. Why not arrive early and offer to help with the prep ... you'll be able to see exactly what's in everything.
  • My lowest percentage checked by my Dr was 24.2% (around the time of this picture).I have what I like to refer to as "cheerleader legs" ... very muscular calf, thighs, and butt plus I'm busty so it evens out. I work out 5-6 times a week doing a combination of cardio, weights, HIIT, and yoga. I'm around 27% right now so I'm…
  • This!!! Seeing underwear is more of a pet peeve than seeing butt cheeks. If you are wearing athletic pants with the built in cotton crotch, they aren't meant to be worn with underwear. It's like wearing panties with a swimsuit. Being able to see your underwear makes it like a giant flashing neon sign. If there no change…
  • I've always been an active person but this was the first time I actually focused on weightlifting and my progress. My smallest measurement were 39-30-40 (34D) and I am quite happy at this size and shape ... I am also 5'4. I prefer a balance of muscle and curves rather than a super lean look. I am overweight based on the…
  • If you want a lean look then you have need to GAIN lean muscle ... you do that by adding strength training to your exercise regime.
  • Last fall my husband and I took our kids (15 yr old boy and 12 yr old girl at the time) on a wilderness hike to the Irish Wilderness, part of the Mark Twain National Forest. It was a 19 mike hike from beginning to end over some very rough terrain. It took us 3 days. The kids talked about the accomplishment for weeks and…
  • I just posted this in another thread. It's the difference between what my husband and I eat. His focus is building muscle mass and mine is fat loss and gaining lean muscle. So basically he's a gainer and I'm in a deficit. Breakfast Me: 1 cup coffee with sugar free sweetener, 2 slices wheat toast with butter, half slice of…
  • This is me and my husband. He's up to 185 but his ultimate goal is 220, more realistically 200 lbs. I focus on the opposite, fat loss and lean muscle gain. I do all the cooking so it's pretty easy for me to prepare our meals. Here's a typical daily meal. Breakfast Me: 1 cup coffee with sugar free sweetener, 2 slices wheat…
  • Actually it's exactly the case. I worked for a prominent nationwide health insurance company for almost 10 years and the providers (providers being both physicians and facilities) are very aware of the tax deduction process. Charges not paid that exceed the MAC (maximum allowable charge) are tax deduction while charges…
  • Physician and facilities can charge whatever they want but are contractually obligated to accept the fee schedules designated by the heath insurance ... that where your participate vs non participating providers come into play. The part that most people don't realize is that the amount over the insurance companies fee…
  • We all see how well AHA has worked haven't we?
  • Should a person who makes choices that directly negatively affect their health be charged more for isurance. Absolutely. The choice could include, but not be limited to ... tobacco use, overeating to the point of morbid obesity, alcohol or drug abuse. If you purposely disregard your health then you should be penalized or…
  • You are already doing more to achieve your goal than a lot of people who never make it to day 2. Stay focused because it's worth it for you and your health!

  • You can't measure body fat by a blood test. Cardio will not help you build muscle. Google the difference of results from cardio vs weight training. Believe it or not you may need to gain a little weight to build the muscle you need. I'm in the overweight category of BMI, and I have a flat stomach.
  • Did you cut a lot of fat from your diet? Cutting your fat too low can also result in constipation regardless of the amount of fiber you consume. Fat works as a lubricant for body waste.
  • I sweat ... a lot ... during a workout and from the time it takes for me to get home and changed (gym is less than 3 miles away) my skin is nearly ice cold. It cools down from the sweat so it my body's natural cooling process. I never shower immediately because I have to allow my body time to cool off first, if I do shower…
  • I braid my hair loosely in the back. I don't have bangs so the front is long enough to add to the braid. Some of it comes out sometimes and after a really strenuous workout I've had to rebraid but it works great for me. It's also less damaging than a too tight poneytail.
  • My husband and I have a very healthy sex life. When I'm working out regularly I tend to have more energy and better flexibility. I'm also in a better state of mind so I can relax and enjoy it more. It's a direct correlation for me. I do feel that some sessions should be logged though.
