  • No need to close this thread. My opinion is to keep it as it is for this month and avoid any more confusion. Thanks @Teresa502 First race in a year for me.
  • Yup! There is already one. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10655908/april-2018-running-challenge We may have to bump it every so often so it doesn't get buried.

  • I also have to fill my tank to an even dollar amount. For some reason, it annoys me to see someone allow the gas pump to stop on like $23.87 and just put the hose away.
  • Whatever you decide to do, the best advise I can give is do lots of EASY Running. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veAQ73OJdwY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaRYYhweiLQ

  • @MobyCarp Digging the battle scars. But aren't you supposed to get those on race courses and not training runs? Heal up buddy.
  • I am no expert, but as a guess... The dreadmill is measuring distance because it knows how fast that belt is moving and can figure out pretty accurately what the distance was. distance = speed (miles per minute the belt is moving) x time (minutes treadmill operating) The footpod? I do not know too much about how they work…
  • Subject: Over-striding Over-striding usually becomes a problem because you end up having your feet land on the ground ahead of your face (as opposed to having them land closer to directly under your chin). It's known as the breaking effect or the heel strike. Don't think in terms of some magical stride length. The reason…
  • The further up you are, the easier it probably is to follow the tangents because it's not as crowded up towards the front as it is say closer to mid pack. Since I am usually closer towards the front, as long as I line up correctly, there's maybe 5 or 6 people close by to me by the time the racers synch up. Larger races…

  • You would think that would be the way, but nope. Try getting the 3 ladies running side by side holding hands. Anyway, the way it is supposed to work is you line up according to how you think you are going to finish. In many larger races, you will see times for where you are supposed to line up. In the real bigger races,…
  • See this is what happens when I try to answer posts when I am days behind. Didn't realize a lot of this got answered already with some good stuff.
  • Your core is tired because that is what should be holding your body up as you are running, and to run with good technique, you need a strong core. You also squeeze your core to engage your glutes (see my earlier post today on that). You don't necessarily stretch them, but you can do exercises to strengthen them. Various…
  • Catching up on things: Congrats @PastorVincent on your 1/2 (and your stubbornness in keeping the 5K plans). Congrats @MobyCarp and @ctlaws44 on your 8K and so neat you guys got to meet up. Congrats @cburke8909 on your 10K. Congrats @zdyb23456 on your 1/2 and PR. Congrats @abutcher2122 (and PR) and @sarahthes on your races.…
  • Regarding stretching... before a run you want to do dynamic stretching and after a run is static stretching. (BTW: don't feel embarrassed about asking "dumb" or "newbie" questions, plenty of people here willing to help. We all been there at one time.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBp7ZJtyVIA…

  • The past week have been hell for me again due to some things in my personal life and have been MIA here. I'm trying to catch up on the posts and came upon this one. What really stood out was the "If my shoulders cramp...." If your shoulders are cramping, this is usually because you're running too stressed and your…
