Perhaps I am an isolated case, but I used to be a heel striker and I ended up with a fracture of the lateral tibial plateau (outside part of knee). I was on crutches for a month. My ortho doc said that an injury like mine was likely caused by heel striking which is associated with overstriding.

Perhaps you had good intentions when you posted this response. But after 2 triathlons, 12 marathons, 2 50 mile ultramarathons, and runs on trails, roads and sidewalks - all of which were done with every bit of attention to my surroundings (no headphones, running on the correct side of the trail/road) - I still fell…

My thoughts? DON'T DO IT.

Although I live in a climate with 4 very distinct seasons (and freeze in my office during all of them), I do my best to wear stretchy tops, sweaters, and sleeveless tops with a buttoned shirt (I too am small-chested) or flyaway cardigan. In the Summer, I echo what another poster mentioned about wearing dresses. Other than…

Weight fluctuations are normal, don't sweat it.

Basically you presented your opinion (see bolded), told US to look up the research, and then effectively put your hands over your ears and started yelling "I can't hear you, I can't hear you!" Not a very effective way of communicating.

I took a quick look at your diary, and it appears you are not weighing everything - mostly the pre-packaged foods. Bread, crumpets, cheese, deli meat - it ALL has to be weighed. Often times, the serving information on the package is not what you are eating in a serving. Example - I weighed out the cheese slices I packed in…

I used to use trail running shoes, since their bottoms have better/deeper treads. Alternatively, you can buy YakTrax (there are others sold under different brand names), which slip over your shoes and provide extra traction. I also know runners who use short screws on the bottoms of their shoes to improve traction.

I have a friend who peddles the Isagenix crap, and looking at her photos she has GAINED weight since she got involved in it. I have known her for 4-5 years and I don't recall her ever being this heavy.

Make sure your hip flexors are nice and flexible - do you stretch afterwards?

Care to provide specifics/links to these studies?

Your original post said you are a little over a week away. There's an entire thread devoted to this topic, and it amazes me how many women don't know the basics about how their bodies work. I'm relieved that isn't your case.
-
Do you mean to tell me that in your 46 years of life you didn't know that women retain water (and bloat) prior to their period? It is very likely that the 3lb gain is due to water weight. I realize this sounds harsh, it is always surprising to me that women either don't know/never learned about this stuff.

It doesn't sound like you are lifting heavy or using a structured program. Both are a MUST. I am 48 yrs old, 5'9" and ~150lbs. I used to weigh 135lbs before I started lifting 7 years ago; although I am heavier now I can still wear the same size in clothes.

No, ma'am - that's not how it works. If one eats at a deficit, they WILL lose weight. Eating too little is bad because one likely will not get the necessary nutrients they need to function. OP - are you weighing your food? If not, you are eating more than you think. Additionally, it's only been 3 days. It didn't take 3…

Hi - former Clevelander here! Here's what we need to know in order to help you: 1) Height and current weight 2) Are you weighing all solids and measuring non-solids? All the "clean" eating in the world won't matter. It's all about calories in/calories out. 3) If you just "kicked up" your exercise level, you may be…

I started running when I was 26 years old and was able to place in local races. I never WON one, but when I was running at my highest level, I almost always finished in the top 3 in my age group. I had ZERO fitness background, having transitioned from a sedentary couch potato. The most important piece of advice I can give…

My half is on 10/23. I have run several halfs and full marathons and am only doing this for fun, so I am running once per week (in addition to other forms of cardio). I already completed a 10 miler pretty easily, so I am certain that I will be able to go out and just have fun.

Band-Aid Blister Block has worked for me in the past. They also sell a product that you can put on "hot spots" before they develop into full-blown blisters (try saying THAT 10 times in a row!).
-
Sounds like a sort of odd place to get blisters - are your socks bunching up when you run? If not, maybe try wicking socks if you are wearing cotton ones?

There is more than one way to skin a cat - one can certainly use MFP in this fashion. I do so myself. As long as foods are weighed/measured and one stays below the calorie limit that they set (vs. going with the MFP suggested calories), weight will be lost.
-
If you would kindly open your food log, we can better advise you. BTW - when someone says that they are eating within a certain range of calories (1600-2000), they usually are not weighing their food and are very likely eating more than they thing. One more thing: you may want to check the calorie burn for your 5 mile run.…

You could easily do the half, especially since you will have fresh legs (do a slight taper leading up to the race) and the adrenaline will be pumping!

When my boyfriend and I work out together and alternate equipment, etc. I will sometimes do wall sits while I am waiting my turn. Sometimes I just stand around with a stupid look on my face, though. ;)

Weigh your food with a food scale, don't use measuring cups. You are eating more than you think.
-
Most entries in your diary are in cups and teaspoons/tablespoons. Everything should be weighed - it's the only way to be as precise as possible. As an example, I used to measure out a 1/2 cup of oats. When I weighed that level 1/2 cup, it was a lot more than the 40g serving size (package read 1/2 cup/40g per serving). It…

Yeah, you can just read right past that advice, OP.
