  • Basically I'm afraid that the program might not work as well for someone of my age - if it doesn't give me the results I want after completing 6 months of NROL4W, I will only then try a cardio shred, because by then, I reason, I will have put some muscle back on, and could theoretically withstand a brief 3 month cardio…
  • You're misinterpreting what I'm saying. In the past I've lost weight thru cardio and calorie restriction. Then gained back weight when not exercising at all. Then lost that weight through cardio and calorie restriction again. My point is that if you do this a few times, the net result will be a loss of muscle mass and…
  • hmmm. well ok then. i guess youre' an expert of some kind? i'm open to hearing what you think is the correct interpretation. what is bro science? seen quite a bit of research showing how you lose muscle as you age, esp if you don't use it. i'll attach a link that contains a nice summary.…
  • Dnamouse - happy birthday!! And that kitten looks to be so sweet :) Manic good job on all that protein. I took barbell cowgirls advice too and started strategizing all my eating around protein, ending up with 4 meals a day. Been mixing protein sources up to include vegan sources too. How did I miss all those great pictures…
  • I've seen advice to do HIIT between weight training sets before - can't imagine that with NROL4W. Had a hard time doing any cardio after weight training toward the end of stage 1, too exhausted. Am raps was like a breath of fresh air (for the first one anyway). Agree with barbell cowgirl, alternate days gets to be hard…
  • congrats on being close to finishing! awesome. not sure what others would say about amraps, but i found it to be worthwhile. on some exercises where i started light, i just used the next weight, say from week 2 or 3 that was more in line with what i could really do at that time. it actually kicked my *kitten* a bit, having…
  • it's tough in the beginning though since you don't lose weight and you don't really change your shape all that much. it takes time. getting used to a lot of protein is harder too....on the digestion.....on your eating preference style....to name a few. i find i have to be totally committed to the idea that in the long run…
  • Welcome DouMc :) most of us are either recently finished or are in the middle of stage one - if you read through the thread you'll find a lot of useful info. Here's my stats from stage 1 A am raps: Begin - End Squat 45#/15 rep - 50 Pushup BW incline/15 - 50 (did incline should have gone to floor, got confused) Row 60#/15 -…
  • you can squat with dumbbells. i did that once or twice - the heaviest on could manage was 40lb though, felt pretty awkward. i hear you about the gym - it can be hard to work your way in to the right area if it's busy. for sure.
  • update on progress w stage 1, for posterity. body fat the same. gained 1 lb. gained an inch on chest, lost 1.5 inches on hips and 1/2 inch on arms. legs look less dimply but they are 1/2 inch bigger. fairly positive increases seen in strength, body looks a bit smoother. waist is the same (31" darn it). thinking about…
  • the brand "so delicious" almond milk has 5g of protein, even in the 40 calorie per cup version. better than 1g at least
  • thank you for posting! this is really quite sensible. and you've taken the time to analyze the program correctly, so helpful! like most of us i want it all now and with weight training there's a longer view. good to know that others have experienced the same thing. sounds like mnsmov is saying the same thing. wondered if…
  • that's f**king AWESOME. so great - i can't even imagine pull ups at this point.
  • So sorry! Terrible with one so young!
  • Give myself a 2/3 this week got all the lifting and running in. Got all the protein and boy does my digestion feel it LOL NSV: 10 minute miles!! 25# DB shoulder presses!! Fell off with the cals twice. Did stage 1 am raps yesterday, then ran 2.5 miles at 6.0 mph pace, felt awesome. Must have kicked my *kitten* because my…
  • red - awesome that you CAN twerk!! lol thanks for all the detail on the tabata, too. helps me make a decision on off day HIIT! :-)
  • well i can think of a few things that were hard, so for that reason think of them as accomplishments: got clean and sober at age 26 - running 23 years clean as of today got a master's quit smoking at 30 have two kids - the accomplishment is the work and commitment involved in getting them to make the right decisions and…
  • ^this.totally.rocks.

  • So I started HRT last week - so far noticing that breast tenderness. Forgot about that, drat. She put me on premarin low dose. Will monitor response so far seem to be sleeping a little better right out of the gate. Figure it takes a month for the body to readjust.

  • ^^those are some great numbers mnsmov! have you done a bodyfat % i bet you lost a lot there! my amrap starts sunday, trying to decide if i should skip the week off or not, since i had one week of only two workouts while i was on vacation. i'm eating at 1500 with the occasional cheat. not sure if this is right or not - i'm…
  • Ps - Easter peeps. Those things look good but they're so bland, not even worth it for a second!
  • Alas, wish could say I don't regret eating certain foods but I cannot - I harbor a junk food junkie living inside and she pops out once in awhile. Potato chips Chocolate Cake Pastry Really enjoy those treats, but they junk food plain and simple.
