  • Ah, great idea! My girlfriend makes what she calls Shrimp Cocktail... I don't know the exact "recipe" but it has shrimp, diced avacado, Clamato juice, diced cucumber, cilantro, green onion, lime juice, black pepper, & hot sauce. You eat it with a spoon... it's amazing! I'll definitely be trying your avacados filled with…
  • My mother-in-law (she's Vietnamese) taught me how to make this dish... it IS a dip, you eat with crackers of your choice... my hubby prefers Sociables... but I'll eat it with carrot slices, bell pepper slices or celery sticks... yummy! OH, also, when I take this to parties... everyone FLIPS OUT over it!! It's amazing! 3…
  • My family loves raw, fresh salsa SO MUCH... I have to make it at least once a week!! I add (everything diced, by the way) Cherry/Grape size tomatoes Bell Peppers (any color... I prefer green, red & yellow) Green Onion Fresh Cilantro Fresh minced jalapenos or serranos if I have them Juice from 1 large lime (toss in a can of…
  • I became a runner at age 35! The very fist difficult lesson I learned was to never take a walk (over a mile) in my normal, everyday "comfy" shoes, trainers, flip flops, sandals, etc. My feet blistered so badly... even in my most comfortable sandals! My girlfriend stressed that I get proper running shoes... go and try many…
  • Bless your heart, that's a lot of info to take in! Short & sweet... you're in the right place! The tools will help you learn what's healthy for your age, weight, & goals... the support will overwhelmingly lift you up! Keep us all posted!!
  • Om nom nom nom.... it all sounds so good!!
  • I've used mapmyrun (works pretty decently) but I prefer EndoMondo... free app. :)
  • LoL... I giggled on this one! I don't log things like laundry & running the vacuum, doing the dishes etc. My "general gardening" workouts the past week... well, I was tossing around 80lb bags of concrete (27 bags to be exact, last Thursday night!) ... mixing the concrete, transporting it in the wheel barrow then shovelling…
  • I had my calorie budget set at 1250 from mid-January through April this year... and gained weight! So, after talking with my doc, he suggested upping my calories. And I have been aiming for 1600ish. I think marathon training has also stressed my body out, in addition to the lower calories... THANK YOU for all the info…
  • Wrap the fixin's for a southwest fajita in large lettuce leaves, like a burrito, instead of tortillas - SO yummy! I got the idea originally from an O'Charlie's appetizer a few years ago.
  • I do the same thing... AWESOME little trick! I also will toss frozen peas or corn into chicken or tuna salad... nice little addition. My fav recipe for grilled veggies: Into one of those pans with holes in it that you can put on the BBQ grill, I toss thickly sliced zuccini thickly sliced yellow squash sliced bell peppers…
  • Thx for posting... sounds awesome!
  • I agree... it's not necessary to buy running shoes from a specialty running store... BUT, some places (like the Running Company) will put you on a treadmil to video your feet as your run... it will give you some insight on what type of shoe you NEED. You don't have to purchase there... but can take the advice & purchase…
  • Oh Girl... HOT abs!! Well done!!
  • I went to my family practitioner about this very thing... multiple symptoms, not just stalled weight... and he did test my thyroid. When I went in for the results, he said my thyroid was healthy, and that the actual cases of true thyroid imbalance was rare. He did not give me any specifics at ALL about mine, other than it…
  • I just posted a blog about this very thing!! I know that muscle weighs more than fat... and that with any diet & exercise plan, there's an adjustment phase. If you have the right formula... hang in there!! It's definitely a process! :flowerforyou: Also... this is one reason I finish off my diet & exercise journal entries…
  • WELL DONE!!!
  • Great Start!! Hang in there... and just focus on enjoying your events!
  • Something else to keep in mind... especially doing such TOUGH workouts... is to NEVER, and I mean EVER, get on the scales if you have muscle sorenss. That's one way your body is telling you that there is water weight & muscle repair going on! Your muscles will retain water while they're healing & repairing. After running…
  • I'm absolutely IN! I'll be running a Women's only 1/2 Marathon in Indianapolis this September... and either the USAF Marathon later in September and/or the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon in November.
  • I totally get ya, Girl! I've had this exact same conversation/argument with many friends AND family members. Most of my family are obese (or battle morbid obesity)... heart disease, stroke, sky high cholesterol... you name it, they fight it! So, they look at me & say "you look great... wow, you've lost how much? You don't…
  • I only STARTED running in 2006! Since that time, I've run 2 full marathons and multiple half marathons. I had already lost 50 pounds through diet and exercise, by that time. So the biggest changes I've seen in my body, has been improvements in my ENDURANCE, my MENTAL WELLBEING and in my overall HEALTH. (I don't catch colds…
  • This sounds pretty good... hows the granola texture by morning? Is it more of an oatmeal texture? I will have to try this one! My breakfast this morning... simple - an orange & bottled water.
  • From one runner to another... WELL DONE!!!
  • The Indianapolis Monumental Marathon is also a nice flat course... first weekend in November! :flowerforyou:
  • My most favorite time to run is right around 6am... but because I've gone back to work, I have to run whenever I can make time! And with a full time job, busy kids, a sweet husband that deserves more attention than I can give.... fitting in a 2 or 5 or 10 mile run is difficult sometimes! Honestly, I usually end up running…
  • Congrats to you & your PR!! (I shaved 15 minutes off my marathon time... still not fast, but BETTER! And that makes me crazy proud!) What's next?? I'm doing the Warrior Dash with my 17 yr old son in June, a women's only 1/2 Marathon in early September... and my oldest son (20 yr old) is coming home from Korea on military…
  • Hoping this works  http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Angiebug1969
