reading taunto's post - everything scary that happened to me before that is kind of null and void now.

It seems a dangerous game to make any serious point about differences between people, it's easy for stupid people to take offence on behalf of someone else and call you racist, sexist, fatist, gayist, ageist - you need a funny gif that makes your point - in the future people will only be able to communicate through funny…

I just got back from a lung busting 5k on the treadmill at work. I knocked about 50 seconds off my PB so it's down to 28:31. I haven't been able to move since I sat back at my desk though. I'm going to make a tea in a minute, but I have to walk through the whole office so I want to make sure my legs aren't wobbly and that…

What an outpouring of support and encouragement! that's got to make you feel like you're not alone.

Good point - I also switched to a pair of Nike Free running shoes from a more supportive pair - I didn't get on with the more supportive pair. So this worked for me: - run in less supportive shoes - run slower (8kph) - run with quicker cadence (180bpm - try podrunner for some music at that speed) - set the treadmill to a…

I don't think I really had shin splints but I found that if I ran fast and took big strides then my shins really hurt after about 1km. This is also true if I take big strides when I walk. I slowed down (8kph from 10kph) and upped my cadence so I was taking shorter strides which seemed to do the trick. I'm now back up to…

I'm not sure I really get the group - I think the administrator can put events in the calendar. I thought it was going to show all our activities (like our individual calendars) but it doesn't. Anyway my goal now is to get my 5k time down to under 27.5 minutes which is about a 10% improvement over where I am now. As for…

I got to this point and stopped reading - I don't think this thread can get better than this comment.

any idea how we can communicate via the Garmin group thing or should we use this thread to talk? I've started loggin my 5k time after seeing the personal best thing on garmin connect. It's a good distance to run at lunchtime here at work. I'd like to be able to run this regularly inside 30 minutes, but it nearly killed me…

not me but my wife before she started working out properly. She was on one of the eliptical machines giving it her all and the machine screen suddenly read "resume workout?" It had thought she'd stopped! Not really gym related but I seem to have trouble getting my head out of the way when I answer my desk phone. People who…

I'm 41, but I'm not American or a lady. I am on the path to lose a couple of stone though so can identify with that bit. I am also easily distracted - I'm great at starting things, not so great and sticking with it, but I'm on my 8th week of logging via MFP. Feel free to add me.

I pay £16/month for the gym at work. It has a range of cardio machines, a few weights machines, a smith machine and some dumbells. It also has a studio for classes which are generally run at lunchtime and 5ish and are mostly free. For a work gym it's pretty well equipped (no barbell though) and is very convenient.

I'm on the south coast, feel free to add me.

I saw one of those motivational pictures somewhere of a guy doing a pressup - it says something along the lines of "I thought about quitting .... then I saw who was watching" and in the picture is a baby in a nappy (diaper) in the pressup position. It made me think that while I tell my son about trying and not giving up -…

Around Christmas a couple of years ago a friend and I planned to take part in a 24 hour kayak race. I decided to find a 5k running race half way through the year to give me something to train for - well I couldn't find one so ended up signing up to do the Great South Run a 10 mile road race. I didn't tell anyone I was…

apparently I should be 6'10" tall

amazing transformation on the weight loss and the fitness gain! inspirational, well done.

I bought a book called something like "heart rate training for the compleat idiot" (note the incorrect spelling of complete). His theory is that most people don't train their heart properly. They don't work it hard enough, and they work it too hard when resting. So he says there are 2 heart rate zones to worry about - your…

Yeah I meant "fastest" and I realised I'm getting mixed up between endomondo - which says your fastest km was on the 3rd of June as part of a 5 k run - and garmin which only counts your fastest 1 km if you only run 1km.
-
done mine - thanks.

Has anyone been using this for a while - I'm sure it used to tell me which run contained my fasted km, mile etc. now it seems that you have to run that distance (and stop) in order for it to be included in the fasted km stats. I'd quite like to know how fast my fasted km is, is this information somewhere else? Thanks, Steve

I've requested to join the group - my garmin broke in the summer so bought a new one and need to get back into using it regularly. I don't have any friends so don't know what difference it makes having friends or being in a group - hopefully it'll help motivation.

Brilliant - 2 minutes is better than me when I first started and I had no serious health issues - well done on building up to it. Running slowly and awkwardly is still running and it still counts (I tell myself that every time I run).

Newcastle United - more a soap opera than a football team - they should show the highlights on you've been framed rather than MOTD.

I vote ditch him, move house, change all your friends - you can't be too careful where calories are concerned.

Passenger - Life's for the living - not in any way a rocky lively track - but always reminds me what life's about and that I'm getting healthy for living.

I can't really add anything - it sounds like you're doing the right thing that your Mum is supporting you - Mums are great like that, siblings not to much, especially at your age. I think you did a sensible thing to vent on here, there seem to be some nice people here who are happy to listen and support you. I hope you're…

it doesn't need to come back. There's nothing to be scared of you just need to take control. That's what MFP does for me, it allows me to track what I eat and therefore know what I'm eating and therefore take control of it - or not on some days but at least I know. :) Good luck, feel free to add me if you need some friends.

roast vegetables, brilliant - that's dinner sorted - thank you MFPeople
