I just got back from the gym. I tried out the squats using the smith machine which meant I could load up the weight and can really feel the difference. At the moment my split leg squats are more about balance than strength so it's a completely different feeling. The gym is at work which is convenient but limited - there…

Thanks Leadfoot. I work out M/W/F alternating between A and B. I think I might ditch the curl and tricep extensions - I got these from a dumbell 5x5 programme online but I'm not convinced what they add - I think I'll focus on dips and pull ups as the support exercises. One more question - I was told to avoid the smith…

It may well be that with more rest I'd be able to lift better on the next exercise/set. I struggled towards the last set in week 4, but only felt winded a couple of times. I never feel like I'm rushing from one to the other, maybe 10 - 20 second rest while I reset for the next exercise, sometimes more, sometimes less. I…

From now on I'm only eating food full of preservatives - if they can make bread last a month imagine how long I'll live if I eat enough of them.

This is literally unbelieveable - sandwiches went round to my house while I was at work and punched my kitten!
-
Did you keep the puppy? Do you have a picture? everyone like's puppies - they're under-represented on the internet thanks to those blasted cats and their evil plan to take over the internet.

These songs seem to have a beat that match my pace: David Bowie - Modern Love Owl City - fireflies La Roux - in for the kill Rizzle kicks - Mama do the hump Cool down Passenger - let her go

I bought some biltong (beef jerky?) from Sainsburys yesterday - 204 calories for 30g of protein for an 85g bag. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet, it looks horrible. But it keeps for 3 days and doesn't need refrigerating so I'm hoping it'll be a handy drawer snack - if I could just bring myself to open the packet.…

"Can I bum a *kitten*?" means something completely different on the other side of the Atlantic.

"I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday" "every expert was once a beginner, no-one starts at the top"

text speak when you're not writing a text - actually even if you are writing a text it's annoying. Why do I have to do all the work deciphering what you've written? Oh and I've heard this a lot in the sandwich queue at work recently "can I get a cheese sandwich?" - what? No, you can "have" a cheese sandwich or you could…

One of the nice thing about MFP is that people have their diaries open (mine is open to friends, feel free to friend me) and you can see what people are eating. I always wonder how people get plenty of protein, sometimes looking at other people's diaries are a good way to find other meal ideas. I read somewhere that people…

I find my left foot slaps down more than my right when I get tired. For me it's often because I'm running too fast and taking too big a stride. Since I've been making a concious effort to slow down and run softer I don't get the shin pain or the noisy slap. I'm one of the biggest chaps in the gym but am often the quietest…

Great job, congratulations!

Thank you everyone for the replies. It looks like it might be interesting to help her see patterns in her sleeping so I think I'm going to order one. Now I just need to work out which one. Thanks again.

A lady at work brought in a box of chocolates - I've resisted all day. I've just come back from a 5k run and decided I could treat myself to one as it'll fit in my macros. I got a coffee one! urgh...what a complete waste!

bing bing bing Correct!

4 prisoners (A,B,C,D) are standing in a line facing the same way, the forth is placed behind a screen. A B C | D The jailor says - I have 2 red hats and 2 blue hats that I'll put on your heads. You can only look at the person infront of you, you can't see your own hat and you can't talk to each other. If any of you can…

Nope, but she does talk a little which is quite funny. I think part of it is that she's more anxious when she's tired, which makes her sleep less so it's a bit of a spiral. I thought that maybe having information and being able to correlate sleep patterns with food/exercise during the day would help, but then I'm a geek…

Thanks all. Yes that is similar to the Smith machine we have in the gym. I've maxed out the dumbells on the squats and deadlifts so tried out the smith machine for a couple of squats which is ok but I don't feel it in my quads so much so I'm not convinced. i also had to switch the one armed rows (leaning on a bench) for…

Oh, I do have a cold. Maybe it's all the gunk running down my throat. Good call! I'll see if it's all still yucky once my cold clear up. Thank you!

Completely agree. Weighing weekly doesn't mean that fluctuations go away. They can have an equally negative mental effect - all the work for the week and I've lost nothing. Weighing myself daily allows me to see these fluctuations for that they are. I'm not saying it's for everyone but I get confused when people say your…

I've just read 4 pages of this and now I feel like the worst husband in the world (well, except the 'boobs' guy, maybe I'm one step ahead of him). I dont' think my wife would say half these things about me.

Thanks all. I clearly don't know enough about this stuff - which is why I'm following the programme. I decided against going to failure on the last set - I sometimes do more than the 5 if I'm feeling strong (I'm concious of trying to overload the muscle), but don't go to failure as I'm not sure I'd fail safely. Good point…

Same thing here, I've been exercising more recently (cycling, lifting), watching what I eat and am up in weight. I've had quite a lot of sodium recently and haven't been sleeping well so I'm putting it down to this and the swollen feeling in my legs and arms - which I'm assuming in water/blood in my muscles trying to react…

Is that close enough to be able to have it in salad?

Wait a minute, doesn't chocolate come from a plant?

HRMs are accurate at measuring heart rate, but the calories burnt are still just a calculation based on averages and assumptions. Your heart rate seems pretty high which may account for the high calories (the calories are about what I burn but I'm significantly more than 10lbs overweight). How did you calculate your max…
