  • Some folks do manage to shrink their skin as they lose weight. Others just develop more lose skin. You may or may not have much control over it because to some degree it just depends on your particular physiognomy. Sometimes it has to do with age, sometimes not. Sometimes toning exercises can take up some slack. My mother…
  • I pay for premium because I like the number and diary customizing options and because I can afford it. Also, between it and my ad blockers, I don't have to wade through ads. Otherwise, it makes no difference. If you are not losing weight to your satisfaction, check that you are weighing and measuring correctly and are…
  • Baking with protein powder can be tricky. Things tend to burn or get very brown so you might want to lower the oven temperature and cut the time.
  • I used to be a Diet Coke junkie but I figured out that sweet taste without calories makes me want to eat everything in sight. Sweets or starchy carbs at the end of supper will do that to me, too. It will probably take you awhile to figure out what things work for you and what don't. We are each different but I'm learning,…
  • So often, this is the case. My sister is like this, too. Lots of folks try to tell you they just don't understand how they can be overweight when they "eat like a bird." Baloney. If you weigh twice what you ought you are eating twice as many calories as you ought. It's really very simple. We eat enough calories to be the…
  • Here's proof that a number on the scale is not as important as an assessment of the entire body. You may be healthiest at a muscular 165 pounds. Someone else your height may need to be 140 or even 120. BMI tables are only averages. That being said, however, someone like me who is 5'4" but weighs in the mid-200s is at an…
  • You can also hide some veggies in things like meat loaf. They add lots of moisture to it. I particularly like doing a whole bunch of parsley and the egg for a meatloaf in the food processor. The resulting green slurry really disappears into it when its cooked and doesn't change the color as much as you expect. It also…
  • There are little things I don't log but I do log low calorie foods because I want to know I consumed them so I can judge how they make me feel. High fiber things like vegetables are also good for me and I like to keep track of my fiber numbers. The things I don't log are incidental like the squirt of lemon juice I might…
  • My boobs are uneven. Sigh. We are all uneven to some degree and when that nice fluffy layer of fat starts to come off, it comes off unevenly and also reveals unevenness that was there all along. Spend some time looking at the news announcers on TV. Many of them have quite uneven faces.
  • There are lots of folks here in MFP that started out with hundreds of pounds to lose and successfully did it -- some with surgery, some without. Some changed their mind about surgery part way through. So put worrying about that aside for now and just work on getting control over your food consumption by using a TDEE…
  • Sometimes, I'll rinse beans. Sometimes, I'll rinse rice. Sometimes, I'll even rinse pasta. But rinse cooked ground beef!?!?! Oh, the humanity!!!!
  • Luckily, our tap water tastes good because they put a new filtration system in our apartment complex. If you don't like your water, try a filter -- either a filter pitcher, an on-the-faucet filter, or an undersink filter. We used both and they are pretty cheap. An undersink filter worked best long term. All you need is an…
  • Digital scales give out eventually. They rely on having sturdy feet and a level floor. If a foot of the scale gets cracked, it will start lying to you. Mine told me I had lost 7 pounds overnight and then kept insisting I weighed that little until its foot just broke off -- at which point it lost its mind. I suppose a $20…
  • Could be bloating due to gas. Did you eat anything different? It could be hormonal if you are a cycling female. It could be some other reason. It could be constipation. If it doesn't go away after a couple of days, get yourself to the doctor.
  • It's a not "silly" question. Many of us have been asking for years. The short answer is there isn't, never has been, and don't beat your head against a wall asking for it. Clean up of the food database just ain't in the cards IMHO.
  • Food commercials set me off. Streaming means fewer triggers since there are fewer commercials for food. Another trick is to get up and brush your teeth. Take up a hobby that keeps your hands busy in front of the TV -- mine are loom knitting, pin loom weaving, and just doing paint by number on my phone. Go to bed early and…
  • You don't have to eat less volume, just fewer calories. There's even a thread for volume eaters somewhere here in MFP. Try not to think so much of cutting things out as replacing things. Replace rice with riced veggies. Don't eat a sandwich between two slices of bread when a wrap will do. Avoid unlimited cookies but allow…
  • You can do this!! At one point, hubby and I got so good at low sodium that he tested too low and we were told to up it a bit! But it's not easy and takes time to adapt. First to overcome is blandness! Yes, cooking without salt can make things awfully bland. This is where herbs and spices come to the rescue. Mrs. Dash is a…
  • Thank you, @AnnPT77. I'm sticking around and am finding more ways to keep active in the hot sticky season. Our fitness center and pool have opened and now I can use them some more. Every morning the scale refuses to dip I just keep remembering that my t-shirt/tunics are hanging down my front even fresh from the dryer. Life…
  • Mine are set to 40/30/30 C/P/F which is okay per my endocrinologist (I have type II diabetes). I'm usually over on fat and under on protein but I try to keep the carbs at a max of 40%.
  • If it works for you, do it. Sometimes, a cup of broth can kill the afternoon munchies for me, especially if I put a lot of seasoning in it like Mrs. Dash or the like. Sometimes, I even add some calories as well as flavor with pesto or parmesan.
  • Lately, my tunic t-shirts hang free from my belly fresh from the dryer!
  • Never trust a whole spaghetti squash in the microwave, no matter how many holes you pierce it with. If it explodes and blows the door of the microwave open, it will do what a spaghetti squash does all over the room. Just the voice of experience speaking.
  • B'stilla or Pastilla or any of several other spellings is a sweet and savory Morrocan or North African meat or seafood pie, frequently made (in the US, anyway) with chicken, cinnamon and sugar. It's totally yummy!!
  • Having done both WW and MFP over the years, MFP has certain advantages. One, it's free -- and even if you pay for the premium membership it's dirt cheap, especially compared to WW. It has no weekly meetings which get repetitive after awhile. You get to develop your own eating habit, sustainable eating habits, based on your…
  • "Underactive thyroid" is treated with synthroid to bring your thryroid levels back to normal. This is something a physician diagnoses through blood tests. If a "weight coach" of some sort tells you that your "underactive thyroid," which they have diagnosed without a blood test, is preventing you from losing weight it is…
  • What everybody said about your body changing and maturing is correct. At 5'4", 130 pounds is healthy. Don't think that the magic number of your teens is where you should be as an adult. Your teen weight may not be enough for your adult body. Work on being healthy and stop worrying about preventing your body from maturing…
  • I can't just dole out two cookies or one serving of chips to myself from a big bag -- yet -- so I don't have them in the house. I spent too long eating a sleeveful of crackers or a pint of ice cream as one serving to break all those habits instantly. I am trying to develop other, more disciplined habits. I can, now, most…
  • Be careful with iron pills and only take them under a doctor's care. It's very easy to overdo it and the fatigue, heavy legs stuff is also caused by too much iron. Caffeine can have a small effect on iron absorption but simply drinking coffee an hour or two after eating iron rich food rather than with it erases the effect.…
