I'm in WA too. Hike year round. Your profile pic looks suspiciously like the White Pass area - is it?

Another fellow RN here...for me it's all about the carbs at 3am - I like oatmeal made with dried fruit (raisins, cranberries and papayas are my current favorites) and a handful of almonds or hemp seeds. It fills the sweet needs and fills me up...and helps me stop feeling quite so crappy from the sugar crash when I wake up…

How about swimming? Wheelchair basketball? Sled hockey? Hand cycling? Contact your local chapter of disabled sports USA and see what they have to offer. (http://www.disabledsportsusa.org/chapters/) Or, if you're not a joiner, just get out in the fresh air - go to your local school track and click off a few miles.

I worked nights for years. The first thing I did was rename my meals. Instead of breakfast etc, I named them meal 1, meal 2 etc. This gets me out of the "breakfast in the morning' mentality as I always switched back to sleeping at night on my days off. I then decided that my 'day' was the period of time from when I woke up…

My daypack is a deuter - I think 25 or 30 liters. I love it. It has a mesh separating the back from me so that a little airflow can get in. Lots of pockets. Attached rain cover (I live in the Pacific Northwest. If I were to only go out if there was 0%chance of precip, I'd never leave my house). And yes, it has a bladder…

Conjunctions are good! I declare war on haiku Silly poetry.

I carry bear spray too - but quite frankly, it's more for the 2 legged variety than the 4 legged ones! It keeps my hiking friend happy on the days I go out alone.

Aaahhhh REI...just those initials alone start to put me in my happy place! And, dividend season is coming soon!!

Anyone going out on a hike should be able to survive a night based only on the contents of their pack. Even on a short hike, things can go AFU in a hurry, as evidenced by hikergirls tale. Here is a list of the "10 essentials" : 1.Navigation (map and compass) 2.Sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen) 3.Insulation (extra…

Round where I hike regularly, I don't know if I could ever count that high lol!

Ooh - I think the Walnut Room is still in existence at Fields flagship store on State. If it is, you should go check it out for lunch - true Chicago history right there.

Chicago Art Institute. Museum of science and industry. Hot Doug's for duck fat fries.

Oh - and re the no one knew where we were part? I use www.shouldbeback.com when I'm backpacking...maybe it needs to be added to the hiking days too...

It's funny you should mention this today - my usual hiking buddy and I were out for what is a common hike for us up some abandoned logging roads near the Pilchuck River...also only 20mins from home. Today we hiked in 5 or 6 miles and there was a part of the trail that is in the process of washing away. So we got to talking…

JEFIT. Has both preprogrammed exercises and a place where you can add your own. Keeps track of reps and weight for subsequent workouts

The 'stair treadmill eagometer' is the stairclimber. (And coincidentally, the bane of my gym time). Log your time on the regular treadmill as 'walking, x miles per hour'.

Aww - she's sorry! How sweet (not). And the 10% she gives God? Seems it goes into her own church that she owns and runs. Hmmmm..... http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/tipping-pastor-apologizes-687234

Dude - reasoned logic again? You really need to stop that kind of silliness.

Bread. Specifically white bakery bread - the stuff made with the bleached flour and the crust that has the butter brushed on it. I could sit and eat an entire loaf of that stuff - don't need butter/jam/nothin. Just the bread.

I'm another in favour of micro spikes - waaaaay better than Yak Trax. I have them in my pack pretty much year round and love the fact that I can get them on and off without having to drop gear first. Get them - you won't be sorry!

Count me in!

I think it is all bro science unless you are training to become an Olympic lifter or ultra marathoner. For the rest of us who just want to gain strength and lose some fat, This article sums it up nicely. http://www.military.com/military-fitness/running/cardio-or-weights-which-comes-first
